Is the UK serpent free? I thought that was only the Emerald Isle.

That would be perfect. Cloudy, rains a lot, usually not hot. They aren’t all emotional like the French.

I watched the first half of the 1979 version of Salem's Lot last night. In a desperate effort to hurry the end of summer along.

First watch.

My Stephen King viewing is limited. His themes are dark, which doesn't bother me, but he involves children, which does. This, being filmed back in the day (Yikes! 47 years ago!) is fairly mild, so I took a risk.

Dated, of course, but it's held up surprisingly well. The filming is great. Very atmospheric.

We have 3 snakes. Only one of which is venomous, and of that only about 12% of bites will require hospital. Non fatal.

There’s a non-native fourth species now. Aesculapian snakes from Europe.

But it sounds like the numbers on all of them are low.

Oof. Looks as though there are 250 species in the US. A hundred of which reside in Texas. Four of the hundred are venomous. Three, very.

The SO has a sports car that he works on from time to time.

Today I was on the receiving end of a conversation where the only words I understood were oil, aftermarket, bypass valve. Between that, and the technical nature of his work, I occasionally wonder how we manage to carry on conversation.

Of course, all that tecky aptitude does come in handy. He did just agree to build three invisible doors.

It strikes me as humorous when “legitimate theater” degrades itself to mimic pop culture.
I don’t know why, but I find a certain delight in that.

I also think it’s funny to think of the proud parents of their son, The Opera Singer, who they thought would never be able to make a living, but at least he was pursuing a noble career in the Arts, coming home and announcing “Good news, Family! I finally got a low paying job on an off-Broadway musical where I’ll appear nude on stage and turn into a monster after a few sex scenes with a Girl! It’s based on that Jeff Goldblum movie that made you all throw up. Isn’t that keen!”

Which is great acting because he’s probably not into girls!

(Thus is based on spending a lot of time in the theatre due to son loving the stage - so my stereotypes are based on life experiences).

His novels rarely translate fully, or well, to screen. Too dense, and too many characters.

Some of the movies are great though, no matter what the critics say.

I could possibly see possibility of comedic elements.

But you lost me a full frontal nudity.

I completely agree. Why Salem's Lot was made for television rather than the big screen is strange to me. The book itself had a ton of Maine idiosyncrasies that also just didn't resonate with audiences then like I bet they would now in film with a better director...and better effects....and more interest in vampires than when it first came out. ...ok scrap the television movie and someone please redo this on Netflix.
