Endless Ends

Gah! Almost time for new reading glasses. Shopping for frames is so frustrating. I have a narrow little nose bridge and it's always a most tiresome hunt to find a pair that I not only like (picky), that also fits.

*le sigh*

Also, you know the old slapstick comedy movie Airplane! (1980).

I had no idea it was based on a movie from the 50s! A serious disaster movie from the 50s! 😲

I kid you not. Zero Hour! (1957).

Airplane! borrows the plot, main cheaters (including names), and sizable swathes of dialogue - yet turns it into a comedy.

Learn something new everyday. :p

How to cope with a day of feeling discombobulated . . .

  • Pick one thing that you can be in control of. Put something in order. Post that letter. Clean the sink. Finish painting the skirting board. Whatever it takes for you to feel you have at least completed something today.
  • Lift the pressure of trying to make sense of the day, and why it didn’t go as planned, by simply saying that you feel discombobulated.
  • Just sit for two minutes without giving yourself anything to do.
  • Now stop your inner critic running riot in your head, berating you for all the things you haven’t done today. It can’t sneak in when you’re paying it no attention (at least for those two minute.
  • Do something you love, that makes you feel like you again: go to the gym, for a walk, watch a favorite program, cook your best meal, look at your rose.
  • Gift yourself with an early night, preferably with some pampering beforehand (scented bath, good book, whatever your favorite wind-down routine.
  • Remind yourself that this discombobulated day will end when you go to sleep. No feelings or thoughts ever last.
  • Write down the difficulties of the day into a journal, if you keep one, or onto a piece of paper that you can rip up afterwards. You don’t need those thoughts and feelings to disturb your sleep. Give them to the page to hold for you.
  • Whichever deadline you haven’t met, report you haven’t written, or email you need to send – you can do it in the morning.
  • Forgive yourself for having a bad day.
Or, my personal recipe: have two drinks of your favorite alcohol beverage . . . watch an old horror movie . . . keep the news off . . . and go to bed earlier than normal. (y)

Oof! Last couple of errands run and now settling in for the freeze.

Two full days of below freezing weather. Most school districts have already issued Monday closures. The interest was practically aside from large transport trucks.

That may not seem that cold, but people here are not used to driving on ice. Too, everyone is already on edge from the electrical grid failures of the 2021 Snowmageddon. No-one expects to freeze to death in Texas. 😬

The Texas population has exploded over the last decade. Between interstate influx for jobs and businesses, and increased immigration, we're up about 5 million. Too many, too fast for proper infrastructure expansion. Flooding neighborhoods, failing grids, inadequate emergency personnel.

They say the electrical grids will hold. 🤨

I should be a global nomad an just wander wherever the weather and people and terrain suit. How does one apply for that job? 🤔

Walmart.

Not a fan.

I rarely enter one, but as there's not much around rurally, and I needed a few things before settling in, I went.

-It smelled funny.
-Voluptuous women wear shorts that ride up between their legs.
-Someone touched my hair. 😳
-The people stare at me.

I'm not entirely sure what that last one means, but I'm fairly certain it's not good. 🤣

I am entirely reminded why I don't people.

The Rift (1990).

An amazingly awesome 1990s sci-fi horror movie with little regard for applicable science. The submarine has extendable legs and one of the mutants - from illegal genetic testing, naturally - looks like a super-sized giant amoeba.

Aaaaaaand, the submarine is yellow. 😝

It is possible there may be an uptick in B movie commentary over the next couple of days*

I apologize in advance.

*If the power holds out.

I could be wrong, but my suspicion is that 👆 might have been meant a trifle rudely. 🤔
Not at all. Just finding the humor where I can.
I originally looked for a sexy Princess being carried on a litter (I had to look up what those were called), by a bunch of sexy guys in things. But I couldn’t find that gif. 😎

Oh, I didn't take offense.

My well-documented aversion to Walmart has been commented on from an, uh, variety of viewpoints. 🤣

Oh, no! I prefer the carriage.

More separation.

From the plebes. :D

When MacReady and the others fly to the Norwegian camp to corpses and chaos, they find the one body due whose demise was due to suicide. It's a sharp contrast to the helicopter that is trying to chase down The Thing when it is in husky form.

My questions are these?

-Does one take on what may seem a hopeless task and make an attempt, no matter how doomed, to stop the end of the world?
-Does one fight for personal survival to the bitter end, no matter the the outcome for humanity at large?
-Or does one abdicate any implied or inferred responsibility and take the opportunity for a less gruesome demise?

No judgements. Just where my mind wanders. 💁‍♀️
