I watched the 1979 version of Dracula again today and it left me with a question.

Why are none of the actor is the primary Dracula movies particular attractive?

I'd rate Frank Langella's performance highest on the sexy scale. He gives a quiet . . . sensuous portrait of our favorite vampire. But, he just doesn't appeal to me personally. Nor did Bella Lugosi or Gary Oldman.

Shouldn't Dracula be a . . . a . . . sexy beast?

Or is his appeal that he's not that attractive yet still has the ineffable pull?

For Lugosi, it was his hypnotic draw. Allegedly, when he performed on the stage, some women would get into a trance and try to get on the stage with him. I don’t know if that’s true, or just good marketing, but you get women with your eyes, the rest is just kind of extra stuff.

Amazing how that one movie role became so iconic. You know Lugosi had no expectation of it catching fire like it did. I suppose, in a way, it started with Nosferatu (1921), but that dracula rendition didn't spawn a franchise.
