my cousin was in a very serious accident this year from drinking and driving (his fault) he was extremely lucky to come out with just a broken leg and very bad cuts and bruising

i just saw the government warning on tv tonight ... music of jingle bells in the background being sang by children while it showed cars that have been in accidents and the drivers being lifted out on stretchers into ambulances ... some looked very horrific but i think this is the right kind of advert for this time of year

everyone should be careful about drinking and driving because its not just your life and your families lives you could ruin it could be another persons and another families too ... my mothers brother was killed by a drunk driver (before i was born)

so like the advert says make this christmas a christmas to remember but not for the wrong reasons

And besides, if you drink and drive, you might spill your drink.

yes sexy-girl those ads to leave a lasting affect. I can't watch them though. Use to be because of the kids it buged me. now it reminds me of my acceden't and what could have happend.

but I liked that last line you said and I want to repeat it :) cause it's my thoughts exatly
so everyon make this christmas a christmas to remember but not for the wrong reasons, be smart these holidays.

There is a time and place to be facetious. This thread was not the place for this comment.

If you weren't being facetious, please mail me your car keys and distributor cap so your drinking problem won't make the holidays memeorable in the wrong way.

Habitual Druken Drivers should have their eyes burnt out with hot pokers. Yes I said that!. Legal system is far to easy on drunks, hence the climbing death toll from drunks, and if you want to rehab em' do it in your state and past your kids.

I am very strongly against drinking and driving, but I hate scare tactics commercials! I have never driven drunk,I have never gotten in a vehicle with a person that was drinking, but these commercials still make feel guilty. They turn my stomach. I think that there has to be a better way to tell the dangers of drunk driving....I refuse to watch these commercials. They come on, the TV gets turned off.

Sexy Girl, just seen the ad on tv now , but I don't think it was as bad as last years one ......that one was more horrific I think .....what do you think ?.......

I hate it when I see drunk drivers on the road .....especially on the motorway.....and living by 2 major motorways , we see it a lot .....stupid bastards ......don't think of others .....

Something else I just thought of......

I was watching the news about a month ago and they were talking about a guy that just got his 10th DUI! That is just shocking! To make matters worse....this guy still has his lisence. Apparently the court system is so messed up here that for most of those DUI's the guy was never able to be tried in court. In one case the trial had been put off and put off and then the judge had to go on vacation.

two guys i worked with had 35 and 28 dui's.......why I say the system does not work.......if you know the right lawyer, who knows the right judge, $10,000.00 will get you out of it.

You're right, Harold.

No intention to offend, I see now that it could.

Have a safe holiday.

i hae to saythis.

i think drinking and driving should maybe b legal. if a drunk driver kills someone in an accident, execute them.

while lillend has a point, the fact is,dwi cases have one of the highest conviction rates. ergo, we wouldn't be wasting a lot of taxpayer dollers whacking these people.

and harold...it is always ok to be facetious. purple...don't apologize. i feel truly bad for the victims, but this world needs a liitle more offensiveness. everyone knows you didn't mean it.

Drunk driving made legal.....

if you can make a statement like that I would suppose that the one hit by the drunk driver has never been you.

As the one who has been hit, not once but twice, I can tell you that the laws we have may not be the most adequate in the world but they are better than what you are proposing.

I would be happy to get rid of the seizure disorder I now have as a gift from a drunk that I have never even seen.

Merry Christmas

just give 'em all 72 hours to evacuate and then nuke jerusalem. problem solved.

Perhaps we could just send all the drunk drivers to Jeruslem and kill two birds with one stone?

I have known in my own life many victims of drunk drivers. I grew up in a family of alcoholics. One of my first memories of christmas was driving home from my uncles house. I was about 4 i guess. The "adults" all drank most of the day. To ward off the shakes my guess is. My mother who did not drink was the classic enabler. She let dad drive the fifty miles home. I remember her voice, filled with fear, as she tried to get him to slow down. I popped up to see what was going on. I made the mistake of asking. My dad said in a very slurred voice, "lay your little ass down back there." I had learned even then to listen to my dad. The consequences of not doing so were severe. So i layed there and listened to the fight, to the fear, and held my breath.

I am not telling this story for any particular reason. If you drink don't drive. If you have a problem with drinking get help. To those who do who have children the best gift you can give those kids is you back for christmas. We only have ourselves to give. Give yourself sober. Sides. the sex is better. Happy holidays everyone.

As much as I disagree with legalizing Drinking and Driving, (and I do strongly disagree with that), you should be even more scared of the people driving around taking presciption drugs, such as Valium, Percocets, and most anti-anxiety drugs. We see them almost as much as we see alcohol related accidents.

Very nice message Sexy-girl. :) As many know, I am against drinking and driving, just stay home, or get a designated driver. It's really not that difficult.

A subject near and dear to my heart...

Sexy girl.. thank god he was ok.. I hope this serves as a wake up call.

My brother was one of the unlucky ones.. :(

I lost my first fiancee and our unborn first child to a drunk driver, August 16 1983. It took Carol a couple of hours to die trapped in the wreck, and she was conscious to the end.

I hate Drunk drivers.

bumping this thread because i feel like it

im very sorry to hear that freakgurl and kiwiwolf but thanks for posting on this thread ... perhaps it might make people on here think too by seeing your posts ... ANY amount of drink makes you unfit to drive

my cousin was leading a very stupid lifestyle im hoping its kind of shocked him out of it but it's hard to know ... as soon as he was able to leave hospital my uncle drove my cousin to where the crash was to show the damage that it had caused ... also police had photo's of the crash and he saw them

i do agree with scare tactics with adverts ... because they show the reality that is easy too ignore unless you see it ... my cousin didnt remember anything of the crash ... it would of been easy for him to pretend it never happened but my uncle was determinded that wouldnt happen

RIP

Lee Lewis

Childhood friend. My first face to face with death. Killed by a drunk driver in Germany while working on a Boy Scout merit badge. Gone these many years but not forgotten. I love you Lee.

Not only thinking about how much you drink before you drive, think about your general condition. I was on jury duty some time back. The guy accused of driving under the influence had two beers. The mitigating circumstances were, 1. He had worked twelve hours. 2. He was nursing a cold, and had taken some cold capsules that warned of operating machinery under their influence.
All those factors led to his driving under the influence conviction. I felt like crap having to look that guy in the face, and assist in the ruin of his job, and life. He looked like Joe Average, no prior run-ins with the law. I thought, "that could be me". The only thing he did that got the cop's attention was cross over a yellow line twice in a mile at three a.m.
Because of that incident, and the fact of several biker friends dying on the road from drunks behind the wheel, I limit my consumption. If I'm riding my motorcycle, it's, "two wheels-two beers" for the whole day! If I consume more, I'm staying put till morning.
Sorry about the harm to your kin, but in reality, it's a fair gift if they learn from their mistake.

*bump* for the last time

thanks lost cause i do considor my cousin very very lucky to just come out of it with a broken leg

People who drink and drive need the shock. They don't need a warning "be careful about drinking and driving", they need someone hitting them between the eyes with a 2x4 telling them "do NOT drink and drive asshole!"

No amount of drinking and driving is tolerable IMO - the one time I am going to side with the zero tolerance people. And it is not just because I have had friends killed by drunk drivers (including one that was killed right in front of wife who was 6 months pregnant at the time). It is because there is no justifiable excuse for drinking and driving, yet about half of the annual motor vehicle deaths are alcohol related.

If you drink, don't drive - if you drive, don't drink. It is as simple as that.

If someone doesn't agree, then I don't want to hear their arguments - they can go fuck off and crash into a tree somewhere, but do it alone and leave the rest of us alive.

sorry kids, i still can't agree...

i hate pre-emptive legislation of ANY kind. as far as swerving all over the road...that's an arrestable offense..NAIL 'EM. i just hate busting people b4 tey've harmed others.
i know...it's really easy to say there is a whole innocent victim factor. and that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. and that the price of losing people is too great. i simply disagree. our society is far too letigious. we need to get back to basics. life is risky..deal with it. some times innocent people die.

PaganAngel, I would love for you to meet the parents who lost both of their young children this year to a drunk driver. Tell them "sometimes innocent people have to die." I can't believe you think a person has to harm another before they should be busted. My mind is screaming here. Yes, some people die. But, some deaths are avoidable, and should never happen. People who choose to drink and drive know the risks ahead of time and they make that decision. We sober drivers are the innocent ones, and become the victim. What choice did we have?? If I'm on the road and I see you swerving, you are gonna get busted. I will call it in. Maybe you're not drunk, maybe you're just tired, but either way, you are a danger and I will attempt to save not only your life, but the life of others on the road. Funny, but the drunk asshole is the one who usually survives, as we carry the innocent body off to the morgue. This pisses me off beyond belief. I can't even begin to tell you how much your statement offends me,not only as a mother whose kids are out there driving, but as a nurse who has to see these assholes on a daily basis, and listen to them complain because they maybe broke their leg or arm. Poor baby. Regardless of whether or not you are swerving on the road, your judgement is still impaired, therefore, you should not be on the road... PERIOD!
