Doomsday Preppers

It's very interesting that everyone in this thread thinks they will survive the initial disaster. Very optimistic lot.

Of course, most of you will be dead right off the bat.

Yeah, I'm living at ground zero...

;) ;) The Cable Guy won't even come out here.

Yesterday, the FedEx guy had to walk a package to the house because he could not get up the drive. He almost got shot because that electronic gismo on his hip looked like a sidearm...

Hell, I might not even know when it happens. Power and Internet go out here al

Janet Napolitano has said that doomsday preppers are extremely dangerous people and possible terrorists who need to be rounded up and arrested.

The only thing that's going to happen to you from getting involved with the prepper movement is get put on some horrible government watch list.

You're right about the ammo. It's one reason the military uses consistent sizes. Not only is it easier to supply and store but it's also easier to scrape up out in the field if you need to. If everyone is using something different then you have more supply and storage problems than you can handle.

I would think using the same caliber that the military used would be the best option. It would be the only long-term source after the WalMart was raided

I have yet to see them explain their strategy for medications, but then I don't watch all that closely...

;) ;)

I've never even heard of the show but that would be my question. What about those of us who rely on modern medicine to be alive? Diabetics, etc. who need their medicine? What's the plan for living off the land in that case?

My wife's kinda interesting too.

She used to be a pack rat. Now she's a pack rat with a purpose...

;) ;) :) Special case of "Hoarders."

Patient1 did that for awhile a few years ago. I don't remember what disaster it was that he was afraid of at the time. He started buying canned meat and stuff to store so we'd have food in an emergency. I told him I don't care what the emergency is, I'm not eating canned meat. Bleech. He eventually ate it himself before the cans became outdated and he hasn't replaced the stash.

Nothing wrong with being prepared with all practicality (suited for probable SHTF situations, like a bad earth quake in CA or hurricane in FL) in mind imo. I'm not like the nut's on TV with years of Z Day supplies on hand but I do have "oh shit" contingency plans and supplies...never know when an natural disaster might fuck your afternoon up.

I suppose not needing to rely on FEMA to wipe my ass after said disaster (a lack of government dependence) makes me a dangerous individual...

Expiration date?

That stuff never goes bad, it just tastes like it...

We have medications for about six months, but not for anything life-threatening.

We lost power last night; always a reminder for us rural folk to constantly be prepared for you never know when it's going to go back on, lucky for us this time, it was only a couple of hours, but I tested the gas generator recently, it is in good order and we have a solar generator, people, don't ever buy a solar generator, they are over-priced crap novelty items.

We have better luck with those little solar battery chargers for our lanterns, radios and sitch...

That's what happens when we become accustomed to lights in the teepees.

I recently reworked the carburetor on my generator. Don't let them sit about with ethanol in the carbs - it'll plug up the jet. Turn off the fuel supply and let it run until the float bowl is dry, and then put it away. Same with all small engines.

Probably the big ones, too, but the truck rarely gets a day off.

Now, the wife wants a big hole dug up on the hill for supplies...

We need a petition to get this show cancelled!

:nods:

If you checked around, you might find "country gas" without the corn squeezins in it. I need to do that again.

I don't trust additives. I do trust a dry float bowl.

I can't haz basement . . . my water table is too high and my lot doesn't slope enugh to create positive drainage away.

Being in a citified part, I can keep warehousing needs to a minimum.

I can Comanchero what I need.

Bounty killers.

Rojos over there, Baxters over here, and me, right in the middle.

Somewhere, there is an insulted mule.

As long as we haz mule food.

Granny Hawkins had better take in an extra supply of oats.
