Doesn't This Make US Look Bad?

If that was a bluff....I think it worked. So far.....but the war rages on, thats the big picture that nobody is really talking about. That discussion has taken a back seat

It wasn’t a bluff!

Obama said this is the line and if you cross it I will take action and he did. He (and we) were lucky that the Syrians saw he was serious and this wasn’t a bluff and that’s what made them move.

The war rages on between 2 abhorrent regimes, it’s sad for those that are caught in the cross fire, but, our only options are to sit on the side lines and let them sort it out, whilst making diplomatic attempts to bring the two parties together or take direct military action on one side or the other. And I have no idea how anyone can choose either of the 2 sides.

Sometimes people have to fight and die for the right to self-determination.

Woof!

The short answer is yes; the deal does make the US look bad. But in the end, we get what we want (no more chemical weapons being used against Syrian civilians) and Syria and Russia get what they want (Assad doesn't get bombed). It does grind my gears that Putin gets to play this off as some great victory of his, rather than the concession under threat of violence that it really is, but who believes a word that comes out of Putin's mouth anymore anyway?

"You keep telling yourself that, outside of the US the Libertarian mind set is all but dead and it on life support in the US."
It is growing.

Always delusional. Always.

Bush again....most of us live in the present.....can we just discuss current events without comparing to the past? If only....

J-w keep on trying to convince us that modern history began on January 20th, 2009. It's not working.

You know, we had a recent president who cared about nothing more than seeming "strong." A lot of good it did us.

Whatever else one might think about Obama, he clearly doesn't give two shits about satisfying the "strength" demands of the same Washington press corps that creamed over President Flightsuit.

Truth.

Obama says he isn't in this for style points

BUT

HEY

PINHEAD PRICK, THATS HOW YOU GOT ELECTED TWICE, YOU HAVE NO SUBSTANCE

I was listening to an interview Kerry gave yesterday, and he made it sound like he and Sergei had been discussing a peaceful solution for days before Russia came up with their idea.
If I remember the interview correctly, Kerry maintained that discussions had been going on for at least 5 days prior to the announcement.

We were SO willing to start a war. It took Vladimir PUTIN to be the voice of calm and reason. It is disturbing that we did not seem willing/able to obtain a diplomatic solution. And our leader won the Nobel Peace Prize. Guess who gets it this year. This seems like a case of "If all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail." It looks like the military is our solution to every problem.

yes! some of us knew from the start, that obama was a total piece of shit.

obama is a joke

No, I do not have what I wanted.

It is your belief that this will occur, this removal of chemical weapons, and your hope, but this region is known for, if nothing else, the crushing of hope. The very players themselves have created such a cynicism in me that I highly doubt anything will come from this agreement other than embarrassment for the United States and especially the office of the Presidency. Had we elected a man who had had some experience somewhere, anywhere, any time of being held to his words, a plan and a goal, none of this would have happened the the man just gets so pumped up, wound up and full of himself that he thinks he can make magnificent sounding pronouncements that look good in the moment with the belief, fostered by the American Press, that nothing he says can ever come back to haunt him, which is a shame, because Vlad may write for the NY Times, but he certainly does not subscribe to it...

You lay down a red line and you had better have a plan all ready for exactly what you are going to do or you are going to end up looking like a rodeo clown without the bravery and heroism of keeping the cowboy out of harm's way.

Now, with 20-20 vision, I hear a lot of "We Love it when a plan comes together," as if the episode were over and put to bed when, in reality, we have just committed to another long-term Middle East entanglement in which we either strut about impotently as clowns on a stage or we stage another Iraqi intervention, but based on the region's history, I do not see anyone just rolling over and handing over their edge against their enemies.

What I wanted was for them to fight it out and then deal with the winner and deliver humanitarian aid.

Instead, we prolong the fight.

Like Mubarek and Momar, if we had stayed out of those fights, they would have prevailed and we would have gone back tot hat which passes for peace in the region, rag-tag little rat-fuck attacks on each other, the Jews and the Christians.

So your answer was let Assad use chemical weapons on women and children. And then when that happened you would condemn Obama for not acting.

The reality is that we are using diplomacy, we haven't committed to boots on the ground and we are involving other countries in helping end the use of chemical weapons. All good things.

And yet you still complain because your hatred of democrats drives you to the most ridiculous positions.

It's always a pleasure watching you paint yourself into a corner.

Nobel prizes are handed out like candy at Halloween. It is meaningless.

Those are difficult decisions. We should be glad that international community is still working for a diplomatic solution. I don't mind if we look bad, or if they look good; as long as there is a chance for a better solution.

LOL at calling Putin "the voice of calm and reason".

Putin convinced Assad to hand over chemical weapons that he'd been insisting Assad didn't have, and he only did it because he was afraid we'd bomb Assad and then he'd lose his navy base in Syria. Putin is doing what he always does: whatever is most advantageous for him.

AJ shows us his 20/20 hineysight....

"You’ve NEVER seen me state that we should have stopped at the boarder after Desert Storm, which isn’t surprising as that’s not what I think/thought."

Never said you did. I said you were in that same boat...

Wordsmithin' and Blame shiftin'....that's what you do.

It's the librulz to blame for GHWB's failure to take out Saddam in 1991. Fuggedabout Schwartzkopf sayin' that was the right thing to do.

For Sale, a bridge from Manhattan to Brooklyn, almost like new, used only by little old ladies, for more information, apply within.

Assad asks

What would America do if it were attacked by terrorists?

Which is what is happening in Syria......

What interests are at stake for us in Syria

None

But Obama supports his allies

Al

Queda

Pretty much.....not our fuckin' problem bro, in case you haven't notice our own house is a little too fucked to be out playing world police and telling others how to run their shit.

The chemical weapons bullshit is just an excuse for Iraq part deux....another gravy train for the war machine.

Because a couple thousand killed by chemical weapons.....my fucking ass, it's because of big money and O is feeling big pressure from it.

Millions in Africa? 0 fucks given....hundreds of thousands killed in Syria by bullets? No problems..... SE asia...millions gunned down in cold blood...no one cares.....

But tiny few (relatively) killed by chem weps? OMG WAR TIME!! It's the Right thing to dew....murikuh!! Bullshit....KBR and Halliburton are up O's ass for a new contract.
