Does the UK, sorry Europe, even have a government?

Obviously not because ppman is nothing but entranced with American politics. Is there nothing going on over there that's of interest? Europe is slowly consolidating into one country, isn't there cause for discussion in that? We hear so much about Bush from ppman who has nothing better to do with his life than worship American Presidents. What's going on over there?

I know very little about the European Union beyond what little filters through Reuters. Perhaps we could start there.

No matter what you do, ppman, Hillary is never going to love you.

KM

There's loads of stuff going on in Europe and the UK - do you really want to know about it or do you just want to poke fun a pp-man;)

BTW - not sure we do have a government here in the UK - there's this chap President Blair who seems to think his role is anywhere but in the UK as long as he is on television! He is surrounded by some of the most incompetent, self serving, hypocritical shits around. Bugger, that sounds just like a government!

Ho hum, back to the drawing board.

There's a European Parliament in Brussels. It is very boring indeed, except when they decide something stupid, like our bananas are too bendy (suprisingly not a joke).

The British Government is more interesting, mainly because of occaisional scandals, party sniping and complete inability to maintain national institutions. Or stop lying.

But at the moment Tony Blair has his tongue so far up Bush's rectum that US policy is UK policy.

PP man may go on a bit, but there is a bit of legitimate concern.

As for Europe turning into one country. It's going to happen and right now the French and Germans seem to be getting all of the policy down the way they want it. The UK government is being a bit stand-offish about this because they are too busy waving a tube of KY at Dubya.

Politics

In England we are taught from a very early age not to discuss sex, politics (I know that these go together in the US!) and religion for fear of causing offence - maybe by concentrating on American issues PP-man is being true to his upbringing.

We also have a complete indifference about our politicians of either wing

Succinctly put, MunchinMark

MM's encapsulated version of European politics is just about spot on.

You Chaps are cool. Brothers in Arms. You should have interest in U.S. policy and vice versa.

Just not all the fucking time on a porn board. Maybe one thread on occasion, but not five or a hundred every fucking day.:)

This was interesting & a bit enlightening, but I can't say the same for pp_man's posts.

I usually find the Aussie/ Kiwis much more fun.

We tend to see politics as private family quarrels as far as nations are concerned: Stay out of their messes, & don't address our own in front of them.

And who are you to tell us what we can and cannot do, oh defender of free speech?

Don't like it?

Don't fucking read it!

You're on!

As part of the currency unification I heard a theme song.

I think it was the chorus from Beethoven's 9th symphony.
I know it as a hymn in America, but also as "Deutchland uber Alles"

What was that about, & how did the French handle that?

How many countries are now on the list for possible future membership and if Israel can take part in the eurovision song contest and the european cup can they join the eu too?

UK politics

With a government that can't deliver on any election promises are you really surprised we are keeping a low profile. staying aloof from Europe is not bravado but foolishness.

Be afraid.

If they don't hurry and declare the region an autonomous collective, then it could become an anarcho-syndiclistic hell hole in a flash. Especially with PP at the helm.

Fucking Freaks

Hymn to the joy

currency unification is about money (BIG)
To avoid change fees.To make easier for goods and people to pass the borders.More economic powers to Europe, having one central bank instead of 12. To forge a european identity.
The French seems to handle that quiet well. It make the transborder shopping easier

All the former eastern block, Malta

Eurovision and European cup are held by European organisations outside the EEC.
