Another blast from the past. Does anyone remember Captain Kangaroo? (He just died a couple of weeks ago, I think it was) and we also had The Romper Room, pre Sesame Street Days!, I am not sure if that was a national or local one though. Locally we also had Mr. Peppermint, he worked for the local ABC station here and he wore a white with red stripe jacket and a straw hat and I think he had a cane and he taught us little things, kind of like Mr Rogers, in between cartoons. He also made characters by painting a pic on his finger and bringing it up through the bottom of a box. ( I know, very low tech, but it was really something for us back then. We didn't have all the tech stuff have now.) He was a kind of in between Captain Kangaroo and Mr. Rogers.
And of course, we did not have this one as a kid but those of us who had kiddos in the past 10-15 yrs probably all know about
BARNEY the big purple dinosaur!!!! he got alot of flack, but he actually taught kids alot. Taught them to have manners, say please and thank you. He taught them about different situations and to not be scared of or make fun of handicap ppl. Taught them about ppl of different cultures. And then of course, colors, numbers, etc...
One I never liked that came out after Daniel was too old to watch the Teletubbies!
What about the Smurfs, for some reason I never liked those little things!
Power Rangers, Pokemon, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Voltron,
PowderPuff Girls.
One thing I always had as a kid and I loved it and played with it for hours, mom always hated it, was Play-Doh and Silly Putty. I never had the fancy machines that they came out with to make things. We just always loved playing with it. Sometimes we would get the molding clay that came in squares, but it was harder to work with. And of course, I think everyone, at least all the girls had sidewalk chalk and we would make hop scotch patterns on the sidewalk. We were so easily amused back then.
