DO YOU REMEMBER

Is a place to wax nostalgic. Things, places, food, train sets made of metal, drive-ins, 1950's spaceage furniture, bubble cars, anything goes. You don't have to have liked something to post it here, it's all about sharing your memories.

I'm going to start out with something we used to have around the house as kids. We didn't keep pop in the house, but there was always had a supply of Fizzies in the pantry. They didn't taste very good dissolved in water, but we used to sneak them from the pantry when my Mom wasn't looking. Then, we let them dissolve on our tongues. If you haven't had one, they were like flavored Alka-Seltzer...

Since we're talking about things nostalgic, one thing I really miss from the past is the local ice cream shops that made their own product. We used to have several in the town where I grew up but now there are none left.

We still have them here.......and they are wonderful. One even has the little juke boxes on the tables. It also makes candy.


I remember playing jacks on my grandmother's porch on hot summer mornings. Everyone would go inside at noon and not return until after dinner......

Gosh I haven't thought about that candy lipstick in years. I found an online store that sold a lot of the old stuff. I never ordered anything.

i recently found a pkg of metal jacks at a store near my house.. it seems all they have now are the plastic ones.

When I was in elementary school, I'd walk to my Dad's office after school each day..He'd give me a little bit of change and off to the corner store I would go. What fun to remember these things.

Good call, EJ--grape and sour apple licorice were fun, too! Tonka trucks, Lincoln Logs, and Tinkertoys, and Erector Sets were fun in my youth, too.

The roller rink was the IN place down here in Houston where I grew up...boy the memories this brings....boyfriends...breakups....lol

I dont know if I would try skating these days...its been about 8 years since I actually went skating....the music was all this hard rock stuff not like we had when I used to skate.

I remember the best song to skate to was WAR.....LOL

That's another thing: the little corner stores that sold everything from candy to groceries. We had three or four within a mile of our house when I was growing up. Now they are virtually extinct (well, they've morphed into the ubiquitous 7-11 and its ilk).
