I went canoeing and kayaking several times this Summer, and always loved it.
I like the kayak much better for the ocean or bay. You're closer to the water, it's easier to handle and if it flips, no biggie.
Canoes are nice, too, though. Easier to row and it feels more like a boat.

I have a 18 Ft. Grumann canoe built in Long Island before WWII with the air tight ends, My Grand father gave it to me, then Grumann made air craft.

I love those sandals...after I got back I hosed my legs and feet down.
They dry really fast.

Solo is nice because you can get through some really shallow areas
