Dick Cheney... should he step down?

I think he is a good man and as long as he dosn't have any problems with the job and his ability to do so, I don't really care.

I've got a similar thing...

A fibrillating heart with one valve working slower than it should and another pumping twice as fast to keep the blood flow flowing as evenly as possible.

I take various medication to help in this process including an ant-coagulant tablet called Warfarin and in a couple of weeks I'll be attending hospital as an out-patient for electric shock treatment to see if the irregularity can be kicked back into normal mode.

I'm saying all this because you know yourself just how hard you can work in the circumstances. Having a problem like this does not preclude you from carrying out your normal duties.

I retired early from my own business a couple of months ago precisely because the strain of working normally would bring on giddyness and bouts of breathlessness. I now feel better than ever and still work on a part-time basis, I just don't force my body into overdoing things (although I can still run for a bus if I have to!)

If Cheney feels he is capable of carrying on and he doesn't feel any medical discomfort then there's no reason why he shouldn't. It would help though if he could maybe slow down a little...but in his job I suppose that an impossible suggestion to follow. At the end of the day his body will let him know (hopefully in good time to avoid any further serious complications).

He's having a procedure to deal with an irregular heartbeat... having a device implanted. He says this will not affect his role as Vice President.

What do you think?
Should FDR have resigned or been disqualified for having polio?
