It’s like seeing a deer carcass off the side of the highway on your daily commute to work and you know the state won’t deem it necessary to pick up because it dragged enough of itself off the pavement into grass and everyday you tell yourself not to look over at that spot but the group of buzzards gnawing and fighting over bits of sinew draws you in until the swarm of flies and coming rain wipes even the blood traces away and a week or two later there’s nothing left and you wonder if that deer is missed by its herd.
