I discovered this week that my "best friend" has been impersonating me on the Internet.

I'd been going back and forth between my home and a cottage that I rented for the summer; so I asked my best friend to house sit while I was gone. Well as stated I came home to find I'd stepped into a big pile of horseshit and it had her name all over it.

I won't reveal this person as I'm still embarassed by what she said and did. She has promised to stay away from this board and apologize to the people she has contacted.

I guess the one consolation is that she didn't send in any of my stories with her name on them.

Now I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself properly, "Hello my name is Bare and I stand before you a little more scarred and a whole lot more exposed."
 
Bare, if you a re a new member with only one post under your name, how could someone be impersonating you?

Well, welcome to Lit. I can't say I've ever seen this name here before (and it states that this is your first post here), so maybe you had another name that your friend was playing on. I don't know, and I don't remember anything "going down" that you could possibly be embarrassed about. :) Look forward to getting to know more about you and seeing more posts. Just call me the welcome wago for the newbies! Someone's gotta be nice to ya'll. ;)

I only remember BareMandy....could that be it? Also, some friend you have. Had this not been on the net, she could very well be in jail.

seriously.. am sorry to hear about how your 'friend' misused your trust.. wish there was a way to make it better... but i've been there too... in a different way... had a female friend i met on the internet and we were really really close... after about 6 months she 'fessed up'.. her name wasn't what she claimed... she was twice as old and was married with children... we were just gal pals .. and to this day i don't really understand why she took on the identity she did.. and why i was part of the deception... we tried to make our friendship work after that but it was all based on a lie and i just couldn't get over it

Skibum, I registered under a new name because I'd rather start with a clean slate then be reminded of my former friend's deception.

Tiggs, thank you for the warm welcome. There was no scandal, except in my eyes, she didn't get very high post wise (now what she did on other boards is another story).

I just have the willies about the whole thing. I've closed all my accounts and I no longer write my passwords down (that was dumb in the first place). I guess I could have registered and not said a thing but I'm too damn honest for that.

Patryn, I agree with your statement "some friend", the really sad thing is this was a 42y/o woman not some bored teenager.
