Dear Liver,

I'm sorry. I thought you were having as much fun as me. Would it make you feel better if I said I'd take better care of you in future?

Signed
Your slightly nauseous host.

dear spasticity,
i thought we had this conversation before. don't you remember? i explained that i'm tired of hurting all the time and you interfering with my sleep. i suggested that perhaps you cut the shit and behave, quit making me cry. what is it going to take to make you go away? i make people go away all the time, follow their lead. i hate to be rude, but i just don't like you. when i'm in charge of the world, i am banning you, all chronic diseases and all pain that goes along with it. i know kendra will stand up and applaud when i do.
please leave now,
sore and tired me

Dear Food Network:

Stop making your food so damn appealing. I can't afford most of the stuff you cook with nor do I live close enough to the restaurants you profile. They do look good though.

Too Hungry....

Dear Wall

So here I am, sitting in front of you... feeling ugly and small... watching others dance and not being wanted at all.

Dear Dean of the College,

As I have previously mentioned on here, I have never been given a break in life. Whatever I have I have because I've busted my butt getting it. I've paid for nearly all of my education out of my own pocket. No scholarships, no financial aid, no being part of a group which gets money because of some statistic, no rich parents or uncles to give me support. It's all been on me and some help from my parents.

Now, as I attempt to get yet another degree, the requirement that I MUST take two programming courses is problematic as I have already taken two programming classes. Granted, they were taken over 10 years ago and are not as high level as the one you require, but they are programming courses which, to remind you again, I paid for while I worked a full-time job.

I'm not a programmer. I have no desire to go into programming. The concepts of programming remain the same except for the language syntax. Yes, OO is different than what I took and yes, it deals with concepts I have not taken. But the base principles of programming remain the same.

Forcing me to take these classes is akin to paying for the same real estate twice. There is no way I can justify the expenditure of time, effort and money to take these classes when I will have no use for them in my (hopefully) more rewarding career down the line.

The issue is not simply that I don't want to take them because I want to shorten the time it will take to complete this degree. If that were case, I wouldn't have undertaken this path. Nor is it because I don't want to take programming classes. There is another programming class which is a requirement and I have no problem with it.

If I were coming in cold, with no background or experience then yes, I can clearly see why these courses must be taken. That is not the case in this instance.

The issue is a matter of principles. I've taken two programming courses, in different languages no less, and have previously self-taught myself a third language. Forcing me to take these classes simply to claim that I have a well-rounded education at this point in time smacks of a money grab. With three degrees already, another one in the wings and my life experiences, how much more rounded to you want me to be?

When I submit my more coherent reasons asking for a waiver of these two courses, I would be very appreciative if you could, for the first time ever, relent and allow me to bypass these two, and only these two, classes so I can move on and get things done. This is a major commitment in both time and money that I am contemplating and, to play the sympathy card again, I have never gotten a break anywhere. You could go down in history as being the first person to ever give me a break.

Think about that for a moment. If you waive these two classes for me, I can, at some time in the future, present your school with a nice endowment to show my appreciation for your agreeing to waive these two classes and for giving me a break.

As an alternative, if you're willing to pay for these classes, I would be agreeable to slogging my way through these classes even though they will take time away from my other classes and, as previously stated, will have no bearing on my future plans.

I'm not going to beg and grovel asking that these courses be waived. I am standing behind my principles and ideals of what I want to do and where I want to go. Throughout my life I have been continually told I can't get there from here or had doors slammed in my face when I try to advance myself. Should you not see fit to waive these two classes it will not be the end of the world for me. I'm used to being disappointed by others. I will continue on my way, beating my head against every obstacle put in my way and amazing people at what I accomplish as if I were some mystical being.

However, waiving these course would go a long way to mitigating this throbbing headache I have.

Respectfully,

Returning student asking for one break

Dear Returning student asking for one break...
I hope you sent that letter.

Dear idiot I work for...

I know that I do whatever you ask, and don't complain about it all that much.
BUT... leaving me 17 voice mails on my cell phone last night, while my kids are away is not cool. I almost had a heart attack when I picked up my phone this morning.
But... yes I will do the presentation for you.
Yes I will make sure it rocks. I know, I know, I'm a freakin genius... glad you appreciate me. Give me less compliments and more money.
But...this time...
Please know I am not prepared
Please know that I may royally fuck this up and if I do, I don't want to hear about it.
Please know that although I will put in an appearance at the meet and greet after I don't want to, I hate that crap and you know it.
Please know that sometimes... just sometimes I need to have a life outside of work and that I am considering submitting my own work to a major studio.. 2 actually, one we work with and one that we don't.

The suite is going to be lovely I'm sure, it was very thoughtful of you to book it for me, and it'll be nice to not have to drive back home after... but I'm going alone, so I'll probably just drive home anyhow. Hotels lose their glamour after you've seen enough and then it's just lonely.

oh yeah...and I'm taking Tuesday off.
Mel
PS..... I'm sure the view will be lovely, but I swear if someone grabs my ass at this stupid cocktail party I'm going to smack them.
