Dear Apartment Management Company...

The power company for our lovely state was just out here about 2 hours ago. The examined the electricity and meters for this building. WHY the FUCK am i paying for my upstairs neighbors electric? Furthermore, why the FUCK are your maintenance men servicing our power meters, which is apparantly against the law??? Also....don't let me forget...it is NOT MY JOB to pay for the "security lighting" in this entire building. WHY the FUCK is that running off of my power meter as well??? Hmmmm?????

The city building inspector is coming out to examine all the wiring in my apartment, given that i found out today that the previous tenants left due to a major electrical fire, and the power company rep. believes my apartment is wired illegally and possibly hazardously. IF you negligence and illegal activities have put myself and my children in danger...you WILL PAY. TRUST ME ON THAT ONE. i have no qualms about doing everything possible to not only get to the bottom of this issue, but to make sure you never rent an apartment in this lovely city again. i WILL NOT live in a place where i have to be worried about plugging in a lamp because sparks might fly out of the outlet and burn my face/hands or any other body part that i deem important. i WILL NOT put my kids at risk. You charge WAY too much in rent to not have these issues solved. Furthermore, i am speaking will all the neighbors in this building and telling them of these problems. The majority of us have children. HOW DARE you put them at risk. You are scum-sucking, horrid slimeballs, and i have HAD IT.

You were mean to a poster who wasn't trying to be disrespectful. He was only giving you a compliment and you jumped down his throat like he was disrespecting you.

You should understand that not everything that you think is disrespectful actually is intended to be. There are some things that are completely innocent and should be treated as such. Sure, after verifying the post as offensive, you have every right to speak your mind. But, before you know, you should remain calm, sensible and respectful.

Explain your thoughts to the poster, in an open manner, void of any emotion and verbiage that could be taken incorrectly. Keep in mind that the poster most likely has no idea you have been offended, so don't assume the offense was intentional. Jumping to conclusions is the wrong thing to do until you are very sure offense was intended.

If you find, after explaining your position that the poster had intended to offend you, then you have every right to cut loose with both barrels, in your defense. There is never a reason for someone to offend another on this or any other forum. That's just immature and disrespectful.

But, don't become overly emotional, immature and disrespectful yourself, before you know the intent of the post you're upset about. Shooting first and asking questions later has always been a bad method of negotiations.

Keep a calm head, politely and calmly explain your position to the poster, and wait for a reply. Even with your explanation, the poster might not understand, and need further clarification. After all, the assumption is the post wasn't intended to be offensive. The offense needs to be clearly stated, so the poster can fully understand your point.

Give all benefit of doubt to the other person, if you think a post was offensive or disrespectful. If you go off half cocked and bash the poster for offending you, they aren't going to understand. So, they will probably just lash back at you with the same offensive tone you just gave to them. Then nothing will be clear other than there are now two pissed off posters and you have probably made an enemy of someone who very well could have been a good friend, with a little patience and understanding.

Give people a chance. There are new people coming here, every day...strangers who can't read your mind to know what will offend you. I really don't think most people intend to offend, without a good reason. So, you shouldn't assume that's their intent.

You're a nice person, and I like you. And your presence here is valuable to others, because of your knowledge and experience. And for sure, you have many friends here. But, you know...if this happens a lot, it reflects more on your personal issues than it does on the other person.
