Dilbert was a great comic. I liked the TV adaptation too.

His coffee time dailies were boring and hyperbolic, but he was tenacious. I hope his death was not painful and wish his family condolences.

Someone once said the number of Dilbert strips you had tacked up in your cubicle was inversely proportional to how much you enjoyed your job. I agree.
Which makes it all the more shameful what Adams turned into late in life - unless he was that way all along and just better at hiding it, which I doubt.

He had two relatively short marriages, and he had conservative views about the role of women in society. But that probably does not fully explain why he called black people "a hate group".

Group generalization is the basis for racism, very similar to the Pig referring to Hispanic migrants as being primarily drug dealers, murderers, rapists, criminals, perverts, insane, etc. Racism is a form of scapegoating. Scapegoating in the USA has now also been extended to trans people.

People who scapegoat think they are superior, but they tend to be insecure. Many of them are haunted by self doubt, so they try to stomp out that insecurity by bullying the "others".

It gets to the point where the only way to stop a bully is to stand up to them in some effective way. When that finally happens, they either back down or get violent.

Once as a new manager of a large organization, I witnessed guy shrink from being a huge 6-foot-4 presence telling me that I would "be sorry" if I made any major organizational changes to looking like a shamed little boy when I told him he would be fired if he continued to threaten me.

Not enough influential people are standing up to the Pig, and too many influential people, like Adams, admire the Pig's bully tactics.
