You know. I've been waiting for this movie to surface ever since I heard about it about 6 years ago. Being a huge X-men fan I can't wait for it to open.

Anyway, there was first showings last night, here in Dk. And as usual I was too late to get the hugely expensive tickets. I guess I have to wait for the "real" opening next week.

But as I sat watching tv last night, there was a first review of the movie. And of course there was all this talk about being true to the cartoon and all that shit.

THEN they started to talk about who this movie was for. And here X-Men has been rated as a kids movie. Meaning younger than PG 13.

Granted, I have not seen the movie, except a lot of clips from it.
But I've never seen X-men as characters for 6-7 year olds. Look at Wolverine, as much as I love to see him claw bad guys. I don't think it's something it's something for kids that age. Not to mention Sabretooth.

Just wondering what the US views are on this?

I guess you'll have to do with a U-K view to start with. I thought the film was completely over-hyped and over-rated. However I think that the sequel will be a lot better as they won't have to waste 2 hours of our time explaining what an X-man is.

I saw it too. It seemed like more like a pilot for a television series then a movie.

Am I the only person in the world that has no clue what X-Men are???

I really am starting to think that I am you know.

Is it really all that exciting??? Xander can you please explain.

Now I'm starting to think that I am missing something ... but then again I was never into Star Trek either :)

Take Care :)

Nicole.
X-Men are the next Gen. Superheros. Except they are not as fine and clear as let's say Superman or Batman used to be.
The name X-men comes from the fact that they are born with a mutated X-chromosome, and through that is born with supernatural powers.
because they're mutants, the normal people fear then, Because they're different. Still they go out on a limp time after time, to save those who hate them.
Also, they all have problems with life. Just like normal people do.
They're not innocent like the conventional super heros' are. Which means they has been know to kill, if pressed hard enough. And they, in the comic books anyway, can also be killed. And some has been over the years.

Their powers are all very different. let's just take the ones they have choosen to include in the movie.

Storm aka. Ororo Munroe ( Ability to control the weather)

Cyclops aka. Scott Summers (His eyes shot an optical lightning. But he can't control them without special glasses he always wears)

Phoenix aka. Jean Grey. (Telepath. Can read minds influence people that way, can also generate telekinisis, and move things by pure will)

Rogue aka. real name unknown. (Southern belle, who absorbs any persons memory and power if she touches them. She cannot control this power and is therefor forced to live without any kind of skin to skin contact.)

Wolverine aka. Logan (Super healing. Can heal any wound given to him, almost as fast as they are given to him, and he has animal-like senses. Like enhanced sight, hearing and smelling.)

Note: It would take up way too much space to explain Wolverine in depth, so I'll just leave it this.

But if anybody would like an in depth description about the members of X-men, or the villians. Feel free to email me, and I'll give you the in depth details.

Flagg.
Wether or not the movie is overrated, or the hype has taken overdimensional proportions. I don't know. Like I said, I haven't seen it yet.

But I do understand that the movie is not for everybody. And you have to be familiar with the X-men universe to fully understand the movie.
But me, as a year long hardcore fan of the X-men, I have been looking forward to this movie for years. And I have the understanding that they have been very faithful to the X-men universe. And this I can't wait to see.
Maybe it's just me.

Xander, the movie is quite true to its origins as they have said. Which is really cool! I loved the Xmen when I was a kid.

This movie is a little overhyped, but I think Flagg hit the nail on the head. This was an introduction movie where a lot of time was wasted on introducing the characters and the story line to people who have no idea who the Xmen are. So the second movie should have mor depth to it. But this is still a pretty cool movie if you like the Xmen.

That's great to hear Merlin.

As I understand it, each castmember has signed a contract for three X-men Movies.
And yes I do realize that a certain amount of intro is needed to the X-men. It's a complicated universe, with complicated characters.

I went and saw it here in the US. It was good, but it did not always stick to the comic books. I.E. Rogue, in the comics Mystic is her foster mother, and she does not know anything about herself. In the movie, Rogue has a name and a family, and knows next to nothing about Mystic. Don't forget Wolverine's Adamantiamum skeleton, makes it nearly impossible to kill him. Magneto's beginning's were screwed up also. <g> just thought I would let you know, and they rated it PG-13 here.

Er...Xander said the following: "The name X-men comes from the fact that they are born with a mutated X-chromosome, and through that is born with supernatural powers."

Maybe, but if you look all the way back in X-Men #1, Xavier says that they are "X-Men" for "X-tra" power. (And no, before you ask, I don't have an actual copy of issue 1, from 1960-something; I have a reprint.)

So very true. BUT, back in the 60's the word mutant was not commonly used, and how X-men got their powers was still somewhat a mystery.
It was first, when the series openend the second time in the mid 70's that X-Men became the characters we know today, and that the X-chromosome theory saw the day of light the first time.

Dancinvixen.
I know all this, and the movie is set before Wolverine becomes a member of X-men, and while Rogue is still a southern girl on the run from her family and powers.
Rogue does have a name and a family, but she has driven from her home in Missisipi because of her powers. It's first later that she becomes the foster child of Mystique. Somewhere in her late teens, if I remember right.

As far as I know, Wolverine do have his adamathium skeleton in the movie. And yes it does make it extremely hard to kill him. But that's not only because of the skeleton enhancement. That's because it only takes seconds for him to heal his wounds. Even today, in the series, where he doesn't have his adamathium skeleton anymore, it's close to impossible to kill him.

As far as I understand they show Magneto as a child, with his powers.
That's WRONG. Magnetos powers first show after WW2 when he is fully grown up. Another thing is that he is actually around 18 years old when he get's caught by the nazis in Poland.
