I have seen many edited posts while here at lit. I have often wondered as to what was edited out. Sometimes it is obvious that it was a comment that may have not gone over well...If that person was not quoted (dreaded quote?) Then there is no way of knowing exactly what was going on.

So...how do you view someone quoting you...especially if you later want to retract what you posted?

I am curious, since I can understand that mis-understandings can cause un-intended problems.

If someone was unintentionally, dissed by my comments, he or she has the freedom to PM me and rant.

So, I'm not bothered about my comments being quoted.

I would say you should think twice before you hit the submit button. You know the ol saying....what goes around comes around, and it may come around and bite you on the ass.

Agreed.

I only edit due to spelling mistakes.

When I usually edit I will say so...and perhaps a comment on why. I tend to forget or think of something more after the fact.:p

Mostly, what I see that I wonder about is those few mis-understandings. Where one person thouoght that the other meant something else, made their comment, then discovered that they're first thought on the subject was flawed due to not understanding the question/statment in the first place.

Usually, I admit, the person's involved will come around and make another post saying so...fessing up so to speak, but there have been a few that...well...no explaination, no nothing.

I usually only edit for the following reasons:

1) Spelling or grammar.
2) I left out a word or said something in a way that didn't convey what I meant to say. Usually the addition or change of one word is all that is needed.
3) I left something out.

I rarely completely remove something I said - I can't say for sure, but I don't think I have ever done that. The few times I have said something and regretted it later, I left it there and then apologized.

I edit for grammer and spelling only. I do not delete posts.

I like to think that I watch what I say here pretty well.

Meaning I don't make overtly snotty or bitchy remarks and on the rare occasion I have, I didn't regret what I said. My idea of what I say that is snotty or bitchy would differ from others I'm sure.

I don't get into the whole name calling, its pointless and I know that whatever my message may be, would get lost if I did.

So if someone quoted me before I had the chance to edit, it's fair play.

The only times I edit are to correct typo's or spelling error's and I've become lax with that lately because I've been doing so many.

I have put things out...I don't edit them out of existence though...I guess I feel that if the post has been read...well...memory in some people is better than in others. heh heh.

I have also seen quotes (so-called quotes that is) that are changed from what the original post was to suit the following person's 'agenda'...I think that while it can be amusing...it is also not a good thing to be able to do. Really takes putting words in someones mouth to a new level.

There have been some threads that I have edited on due to my slowness at responding to a particular post. Also the usuall spelling and grammer things too.:(

I usually only quote so that the person I am addressing is apparent to all who read.

I think I'm pretty much like everyone else.

Spelling and grammar, which for me are pretty bad at times.
Every so often it's to add something.

I have no problem with people quoting me. If I put it out there I wanted it to be said. If I said it in a way that offended that’s something I take care of later.

I go back and edit for spelling if I notice I've made a few errors. Just one or two I can let slide but if I reread something I've written and it seems to have been typed by a drunk monkey I'll go back and fix it.

Never for content; if I fuck up and post something that has me winding up with egg on my face, so be it. I can handle looking a bit foolish.

Oh and I have gone back and taken out some photos here and ther, no biggie.

PHOTO'S? OH shit! Excuse me...I have to go find that certain thread...I have some editing to do.

PM's, there should be a class on sending them.

That would reduce some of the damage control.

I enjoy watching the hissy fits. (male and female)

Since I'm the typo queen, my edits are always because of this, and usually oocur within a couple minutes of the original post. Though I proof what I say, sometimes its so clear to me in my mind that I still don't see the typos. Once its submitted, I always read it again, and for whatever reason, that is when I catch it.

I learned a little lesson from Siren when I first came to the GB. She was giving another poster a fit for editing the basic content of their original post in a thread, and I made up my mind right then and there that I never wanted to be at the other end of that. ;)
When I realize I'm not being understood, or that I read something wrong and I need to clarify, I will keep posting until I can straighten it out. It just looks bad to go back and change it, whats done is done.

I hate making typos, so I usually go back to edit them.

Hi, curious2c.

I edit only to fix a typo, spelling, or grammar error or if i hit submit before i finished my thoughts completely.

I have been known to pre-emptively quote someone if they are known to edit out their inflammatory remarks when the backlash gets to be too much. I have absolutely no respect for anyone who won't stand behind their comments (and insults) here.

I quote the person I am responding to.

When I need to edit its cos I forgot to proof read before posting or to correct spelling or grammer.

With this new keyboard, it seem I am doing more typo errors.
