Could a human do hand-to-hand combat against a grizzly bear?

Depends. I am granting the more vicious reputation the brown bear has will gain more punts - therefore I have to lower his odds to protect my book. I have also not yet rented the bears and could easily end up with 20 year old brown at 1500 pounds and a 8 year old polar bear at 900. Hard to tell until the post parade.

Which human being are we using? Cuz Chuck Norris might shift the odds a bit.

Could a human being, especially an expert martial artist do hand-to-hand combat against an animal as large and powerful as a grizzly bear? What if they had some sort of bladed weapon like a sword or a spear?

Yes as a matter of fact it is possible and it has been recorded. Clearly martial arts prowess is key, though dirty fighting can sometimes surpass it.

Well, this is serious business, like all of Mike's threads. I assume the pit is heated and that's why you gave the polar lower odds than the brown?

It's just about time for this video to be linked:

With a spear, man has a chance. (Last Kings of Thule)

There are documented cases! Daddy was a Grizz and mama was Polar.....

I read about them. I don't know if it would contain the best or worst of its parents.

What exactly are the best and worst of grizzlies and polars? They fuck, eat and sleep. Which of those are best and worst? If you are in the pit - which are best and worst?

I would rather be shit on by a bear rather than eaten by one.

Well, it has to be a normal human. I put LT at 1:3 because of his well documented hammerlocks and arm bars, ability and aplomb with pistols and his undefeated physical might.

I'd put Chuck at 15:1, mostly because he'd at least get in a kick (not that the croc would care if it was kicked).

But let's say the human is: Tiger Woods. (he can't play golf anymore, so animal fighting seems likely)

When you get past the bear renting stage and seek something more permanent, buy polar and don't forget to take your meds.

Tiger's the kind of pansy that would let some chick hit his car with a golf club. I bet he rides English style, too.

unarmed...one in a few million chance of some how getting to the bears eyes just to escape...with a a long spear or very sharp sword and training...yes.

Hasn't anyone seen the movie "The Edge"? I highly recommend it and not just for this thread. lol

Yeah, they (Alec Baldwin and Anthony Hopkins) killed a grizzly bear by impaling it with a long wooden spear. They didn't fight it with their bare hands.

The problem with fighting a bear with your bare hands (and feet) is that besides the eyes, you wouldn't be able to hurt it no matter how hard you or how many times you actually hit or kicked it. even biting would have limited effect. Then if you did take out his eyes, you would be close enough to resk being bitten, crushed or slashed anyways.

I remember seeing this movie as a kid.

'Faces of Death'.

This is the bear punching the guy's head off.

eyer: listen to the commentators last words.

Will I have nightmares if I watch this? Tell me true.

I have friends who work on local TV and they do these "Jack Hannah" kind of spots where people bring on lions and tigers and bears. I can't watch. I know they could die at any moment. In the blink of an eye. I beg them not to do it.
