Although you wouldn't know it from some news organizations, the correct grammatical form is "Democratic" Party. Referring to it as the "Democrat" Party is a pejorative form promulgated by many on the Right, including the imbecile currently in the Oval Office.
[eta]: Of course, being an imbecile affords Bush the plausible deniability that he simply doesn't know any better. The fantasy that he does know better, but pretends otherwise simply to get in a dig at the opposition, gives the Right wing both amusement and further proof of the Leader's omniscience.![]()
Thank you for that correction. Democratic it is.
Over here, the Labour Party doesn't now like being called "Socialist", "Reds", "Pinkos" etc.
The Conservative (formerly Conservative and Unionist) doesn't like being called "Tories". "True Blue Tory" is shorthand for someone who wants to reintroduce public birching for delinquent teenagers and hanging, drawing and quartering for burglars.
The Liberal Democrats do not like being shortened to Libs and even less Whigs. Lib-Dem is acceptable.
