Does anybody know if there are vaginal plugs (or similar devices) available for women who are having trouble getting pregnant, and want to keep the semen from spilling out after they have sex? If so, what are their proper names and are they fairly well known, or are they a really obscure product?

A thought for you perhaps........ what about using a diaphragm after he cums in you.
I dont know very much about them or if they contain spermicide... but it is a thgouht.

Just to clarify, I'm a guy. A very straight guy. And I can assure you that no "he" will ever be cumming in me.

But thanks for the idea. I don't know much about diaphragms as I've never had sex where one was involved, but it might be worth thinking about. Unless they contain spermicide, as you say, which I suspect they do. One of their primary functions is to prevent pregnancy, afterall, and I'd imagine that spermicide would be a standard back-up feature on them, just like condoms, incase they do break.

Also, how dependant are they on the penis to keep them in place? Especially after all the action when the woman is all slick inside? I'm really looking for something that will stay in place by itself. (This is research for a story, by the way. I'm not starting a brood, yet.)

Diaphragms are generally latex and they do not "contain" spermacide. Spermacide cream/lube is added to the inner surface before use. Using a non-spermacidal lube around the edges would work in lieu of the usual stuff, but I don't have a clue regarding whether or not this would increase the chances of pregnancy.

Usually just the fact that the semen got into the vagina is enough.... no need to plug it in there.... If you want to be sure though maybe keep her butt and legs higher than the rest of her body for a little while so that the semen remains close to the cervix and has more of a change to get in the uterus...

I think they call them pillows. I seriously doubt that "leaking" semen is the problem for infertility but a strategically placed pillow will raise the hips enough to let gravity do its job.

There are no plugs, when a woman is trying to get pregnant or being forced to get that way the only thing needed is to lay on her back after with a pillow under her butt. Not getting up for half an hour is about all the time you need.

If she really wants to be sure standing on her head for half an hour is a viable option. Of course can't forget the position to be in for conception, on her back is the best, generally with the pillow under her butt so he can go deeper. Alternately her on top facing his feet leaning back though it is not quite as good.

Of course her on top will work so long as you both roll over before withdrawal so most of the sperm stays there. ;)

note to self - do not put pillow under butt

I really doubt that would make any difference for conception. Women have gotten pregnant just having cum splash on their pussy. There's no reason why the sperm should have any trouble going an extra inch or so. I'd say the pillow under her butt might make a difference for her pleasure, though. :D

I've read recently that even holding your legs up after sex is a myth; if it's going to get there, it'll get there. As for plugs...sounds like a vile way of capitalising on women struggling to get pregnant and not terribly hygienic.

I've heard the same thing, although most experts seem to think that anything reasonable that keeps the sperm closer to the cervix for longer may be helpful. We frequently had sex in missionary, put a folded pillow under my butt and had me rest in that position for at least 15 minutes after babymaking sex. I don't know if it actually helped, but it's always felt helpful to me.

We also tried having him ejaculate into a diaphragm-like device, and while I did get pregnant one of those cycles, the whole procedure was more trouble than it was worth and a lot of semen ended up coming out while I was trying to get it in and positioned correctly.

IMO, the best conception equipment is knowledge, consistency, good health and patience.

Actually, the best way to get pregnant is to not try. I know way too many people that have gotten pregnant on a first date. ;)

Well yeah see the thingy is though, about half of the getting pregnant is desire on her part. It may or may not make a difference to put a pillow under her butt, or have her stand on head, Gloria Estefan was doing that because she wanted to have kids and it wasn't happening. Seems like an extra hassle to something that is supposed to be fun.

However, a woman desperately wanting to get pregnant will if she and her chosen mate are capable of it. It doesn't always happen soon but it happens. A woman deathly afraid of getting pregnant probably won't. The problem is, sperm has a mind of it's own and will find a way if at all possible. The difference is though, a hoping wishing and wanting woman has lowered defences, because it is what she wants. Obviously if there is no egg or no sperm there won't be pregnancy.

Scientists hate saying this part, because it's not provable really. However since I'm not a scientist I am gonna say it, wanting a kid enough means you will get pregnant, no matter what. The problem lays in it is hard to get to the point of wanting nothing but a bun in your oven, there are usually doubts, maybe now is not a god time so on so forth, your body gets mixed reviews and heightens defences. If you can lose all thoughts and just get off on that peice of meat sliding in and out of you chances are good you are going to get pregnant. :D

Of course I'm nuts so you should take all that with a grain of salt. ;)

I'd seriously doubt that. As far as I can tell, pregnancy is much more likely if you're not worried about it. A lot of the couples I know, that wanted kids, ended up with one not long after they gave up.

I've heard similar tips for women having trouble getting pregnant, which is what inspired my curiousity as to whether there are devices designed to keep/push semen as deep inside as possible. Unfortunately, my character doesn't have the option of laying in bed with her ass up in the air for half an hour. I don't want to give too much away, but she needs to make a quick getaway after she gets laid, hence the need for something extra to keep as much inside as possible.

That's the major bugbear of people experiencing real difficulty in getting pregnant, isn't it? So many manage to accomplish what they can't, without even wanting to or trying to.

Thanks! That's just the kind of thing I was asking about! :D

That's what my sister says. :D She was telling a friend of hers who is very desperately trying to get pregnant, "The best way to get knocked up is to get drunk and have him pull out."

Worked for her!

Ace, I'm going to forward this to my friend who's infertile. Who knew that just wanting a baby would make all the difference? Seriously, do you have any idea how patronising and offensive that post is? A smarmy little one-liner at the end doesn't take away from that.

Hey IVF clinics, time to close your doors! You're no longer required; these women just don't want to be pregnant enough. Jesus.

I think all the people who didn't want to get pregnant and were using contraception would also like to know

I use a diaphragm as contraception.

Ok, 'twere me in the scenario for your story, I'd let him cum inside me and then I'd put my diaphragm in.

Diaphragms are made of rubber or silicone and are reusable (you just wash them between uses). No need to add any lube or other substance for this particular purpose, and the way they stay in place is via a combination of natural, unconscious vaginal muscle tone and the fact that one part of them is wedged on top of the pubic bone. The wearer can't actually feel the diaphragm when it's in place, just as a tampon-wearer, for instance, cant feel the tampon when it's in place. A correctly fitted diaphragm, once in place, will not budge a millimetre, no matter how wet the woman is, until she pulls it out.

No disrespect to you, or your friend, or anyone else who tries hard, but can't seem to concieve, but maybe it's not such a hair-brained theory.

Some women who want to get pregnant really badly, but who infact aren't pregnant, can actually will their body in to acting pregnant. Even if they're a virgin! Periods stop, nipples start to lactate, morning sickness - everything but the belly and the actual baby. I've heard that some can even produce the hormonal conditions to fool pregnancy tests (and not the cheap, store-bought kind, either! Proper tests run by a doctor!)

We all know that some women, for whatever reason, seem to just have lower odds at making a baby than others. If extreme desire for a baby can convince the body that it is indeed pregnant, then maybe a desire that is slightly less potent can convince the body to better prepare for conception. For example, it might make her send more eggs into her womb, or it might provoke a change in her vaginal fluid that makes it more sperm-friendly.

I'm not saying that women trying and failng to get pregnant don't want to get pregnant. I'm just saying that there's an argument for suggesting that really, really, really wanting it might give them the leg up (no pun intended) they need to get there.

There is a lot about the body that just seems automatic and out of our concious control. But the truth is that we have a surprising amount of control over our bodies. It's just that a large portion of that control is delegated to our heart, not our mind.

Just my two cents. No disrespect to anyone struggling with this issue at the moment. I wish you all the best.

Actually, anal wouldn't likely even be foolproof. When the guy pulls out, his dick could slip and wipe semen off on her pussy. Sure, it's unlikely that you would get pregnant that way, but I'm sure it's happened.

I'm sure it has. There's always some unlucky sod.

Also...bum babies.

Yeah, and it actually seems like it happens more than people that actually want children being able to concieve. Now, if only there were some simple, convenient way to just extract the embryos from those that don't want them an implant them in women that actually want kids.
