Comments/Suggestions on the New Story Review Thread

More from Brett

Aurora, will lay off the caps, but I will explain a few things.

It is kind-of my little tradition to put the names of the women in caps and in colors. Just a fun little quirk of mine. But as it bothers you, won't do it.

As to the bold, I type that way for a few reasons. It shows up better to me, and I don't see as well as some, so when I type in bold, I am able to see any mistakes I might have made. I used to use a different font as well, but that one really bothered people.

Not yelling though, I use caps or italics for emphasis. I wish LIT would allow that, there are sentences were I here the dialogue and I know the character are speaking a certain way, but cannot denote that without italics and such. Oh well, such is life.

I think if a person needs to bold their posts, they should, I know I have to sometimes highlight things to see them when someone uses light colors for fun. I also know some folks on Lit have a hard time because of colorblindness when folks use certain colors so I know bold print can help folks too. I say do what you can to have a good experience on Lit and since you've explained the bold then everyone should be understanding and know you aren't yelling. I've been posting with Brett for over a year and he is not doing anything to offend anyone, but I do know as far as knowing if he is he'll stop.

Okay I put my two cents in and it wasn't to upset anyone, but to support Brett and back up the fact he'd never to anything to knowingly offend. Moving on though I want to address Brett's request for what he'd like to see on the reviews.

Brett. . .as far as how things go on structures and what the reviewer decides to say about a story is completely up to the reviewer. If grammer, punct. . .etc, is important to you than you'll reflect that in your review. If it distracts I'll let someone know, but I don't make it the focus on my review. I am human and I don't catch all my mistakes, others. . .and believe me there are plenty anonymous folks out there and not anonymous ones, that are going to point out my mistakes.

I also believe the reviews for the thread hold weight with either little posts or longer ones. It is again up to the reviewer and how much they are pulled to write about a story. I can't add lines to a review if I simply believe the essences of my enjoyment of the story can be read with . . . Wow! This is a winner and I can't begin to tell you how much I enjoyed it. The passion is felt between the brother and his cousin's bestfriend's sister's aunt. . . Read this! It is a must!!!!

To me. . .that simple post is enough. Others yeah, I'll give a long review, again, depends on the story and what I feel is appropriate.

You know I value your opinion Brett, so please don't see this as a hostile post. It isn't meant to be, just me answering the reasons my reviews are they way they are and probably the way others are too.

Dani: Julia's on the back burner at the moment in favor of something new. I'll get back to it when I'm done.
Sigh...okay. I really loved the flavor of that piece. You captured the attitude as well as the sense of the time and her desperation just so well. It was beautifully done. But I can't wait to see what else you come up with.

From Brett

RED - no offense taken hon, but I was making a suggestion. The more I know about a story, its positives and minuses, the more I know whether or not is is worth my time to read.

And a few mistakes in grammar don't bother me, but if they are consistent, yep, they annoy the heck outta me.

Anyway, I will post some new reviews shortly, am working on that "personal", story you and I have talked about in the past.

My thanks

Thank you Aurora Black for your noticing my story "Because of The Night, Part 4",

I'm working on bringing this story up to a higher level, I wrote the entire series five years ago and I'm re-noticing missing elements that would make the story more complete. More to come in this story soon.

Yukio Mishima. Cool AV, Decayed Angel.

So curiosity dictates that I ask this and since you people I consider friends, I thought I would ask here. What sort of story makes an E? If you look at different works by different authors, what would make you want to give a story an E?

Any takers on an answer? :D

Danielle. . .I'll post, but it's only an opinion. I was floored, but grateful and tickled. It isn't a requirement to be a perfect edited story with no grammers, punct. errors - because mine has errors, though I read it over and over and over. . .I'd say it forces the person reading it and rewarding the little E to draw them in and keep a hold instead of them doing a quick scan, or perhaps it touches them in a special way. Again only an opinion and certainly not the only one I'm sure.

Hmm ... in addition to technical excellence, it would have to be unusual plot-wise as well.

BTW, I've been meaning to post that I'm very impressed with the way the whole New Story Reviews system has been set up & maintained. Very well done, everyone! Someday *sigh* when I have more time, I'd like to get involved.

Decayed Angel & Cawastedyouth, you're welcome.

I truly enjoy reviewing stories, even though doing so has managed to take time away from my own creative pursuits and has given me unnecessary grief in the process. However, I refuse to give it up because I believe in what we're doing.

As for the E question, I think it has to do with the plot. If the story touches on some aspect of the human experience and resonates with the reader, then its chances are good.

For example, Jammies' recent E story dealt with the grief of losing a beloved pet, and Red's dealt with two people coming together after one of them lost a relative.

I'm not saying that if someone writes a story where a character dies they'll get an E, but in general the story has to be written well, have emotional impact and a universal subject that involves everyday themes.

ETA: When I said "everyday," I meant "everyday, yet deep." Does that make sense?

Hi, Imp. :)

This reminds me that the Tuesday slot is still open.

Yes, and I forgot to mention how much I will miss Falling to Fly's reviews. Damn, like I said, it's a revolving door and the original Reviewers are dropping like flies (except that Selena and Lady Cibelle have returned to grace us). Danielle, Lizzy, and now Falling. Did I miss anyone that has left?

On a positive note, I would love to read what Imp thinks of stories. I imagine that she would be a great choice for a Reviewer.

Since I'm doubling up with Selena at the moment, would anyone mind if I slid to Tuesday (at least until someone else wanted it)? Monday there just weren't enough stories for two. I don't know if that's a regular occurance or not.

I'm still happy to be temporary, so when Falling comes back, it would still be hers.

I don't see a problem with you doing Tuesday.

Thanks for the mention

Fire Pole

It's kinda my nod to my past. I know these people. Thanks for telling me that it also succeeds as a story. I never felt it did, so much. I was into telling orgasms then, in a big way. There are several!

I was glad you mentioned it in another way, too. More later on that.

:rose: :rose: :rose: to Selena. Thanks, babe.

Thanks Rob, for your wonderful review. I feel honored that you thought so highly off it.

Works for me. As long as it's filled by someone who knows their stuff. Cool. :D

Well, you can be the judge of that. :D But I'd be happy to do it unless someone asks for a change. Falling definitely had her own style of reviewing. I just hope to do an adequate job in her absence.

Well. . . I am still here, and have delurked for the evening, perhaps I'll do a few Sat reviews early if they pop up before I decide to sleep. . .or pretend to sleep. . .maybe I'll research canoes. . .

New. But Willing.

Hello,

I have no idea if this is presumptuous, but can anyone volunteer to review? I'd like to, and, if it helps, I'm trained in criticism, editing, and proof-reading.

Yes, you can volunteer to do reviews also. We have reviewers for set days, but folks can volunteer to review for any day and any story, genre. :) Welcome and if/when you decide to review I look forward to reading them. :)

btw. . .I'm Red. :)

Yes but you'll always be brilliant. Have I mentioned my plan to hire you as my tutor so I can finally write a good erotic scene? :D
