take care ...

the review thread seems awfully clogged with Comments, so I bumped this!

I have been reading new stories in an attempt to try to find some to review. As a general rule, I have decided not to review a story unless I give it at least a 4.

In other words, if I can't find good things to say, I won't say anything.

However...

I just had to share a paragraph with you from a story that I am not planning on reviewing. Can anyone guess why I stopped reading after this paragraph?

I had gotten some leave from the Navy (I'm an Intelligence Specialist 3rd Class, stationed in San Diego, CA), and came elk hunting with him. I had just gotten a new rifle, too. A Benelli R1 semi-automatic in .300 Winchester Magnum caliber, equipped with a 4.5-14x40 Zeiss Scope. Sighted in at 300 yards, and ready to go.

Monday Review.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Working my way down the list of new stories today, I was overjoyed to see SweetWitch's NaNoWriMo story, so I seized upon it eagerly to review:

"Shelter From The Storm, Ch.01"

by SweetWitch

Romance

Well, I was hooked into this story right from the very beginning, and SweetWitch's writing had my pulse racing with anxiety as I followed her heroine, Carissa, into the raging snowstorm.

Superbly written, with tension building from the first line, this is a gripping read that I can't wait to continue. Her believeable characters are drawn beautifully and the situation Carissa finds herself in is truly frightening. As a mother of two children, I sympathised with the heroine and will be looking out for more in anticipation of what's going to happen next. Please don't keep us waiting too long!

A well-deserved "5" from me!

Janie,

You are too kind. Thank you so much.

I write to you from the frozen midwest where life has all but come to a stand-still. No power, no heat, no computer. I will try to get the rest of the story out as soon as possible.

Thank you again for your wonderful review.

You're very welcome!

Can we have some of your weather? It's mild and windy here and I would really like to experience some interesting conditions:eek:

Not sure about the lack of heat or computer though...:(

Looking forward to the next instalment.

So, how does one get reviewed? Is it just luck?

Hello,

For me, it's whether a story that comes out on my particular day (Monday), seizes my attention and keeps it.

I'll be the first to admit that I review stories I personally like which, in some people's opinion, may restrict the categories I include. But, I can't see the point in reviewing a story that I didn't enjoy and wouldn't find anything good to recommend.

I never realised that reviewing stories takes so long and is such hard work so credit where credit's due to the reviewers who have been doing it for far longer than me. Why do all that reading and writing for something you didn't enjoy?

But everyone is welcome to include a review - Volunteers Welcome! - and if you see a good story to recommend, include it in the official thread.

It's the one thing we writers crave - feedback.

Are you sure you want it? I have been sleeping on the couch, maintaining the fire on the hearth, and making smoke rings with the steam that I breathe out. This morning it was 4 degrees F outside and 34 inside with the fire. The hot water bottle in the kitty's bed froze in the other room.

Apologies from Og

I have a new story posted - the second part of Shift Swap.

Please do NOT embarrass me by reviewing it. Both parts were written in a hurry for a new Yahoo adult group because there were no stories in their files. I have posted them on Lit because that way I won't lose them if the Yahoo group gets deleted.

These stories, like several of my fetish ones, are intended for limited audiences who are fairly uncritical IF their particular kink is included. They are potboilers, not serious works of art.

Apologies to anyone who reads them expecting more than I intended.
