Ironically, the oil producers got filthy, stinking rich because all of the speculators who were invested in liar-loan-mortgage-backed securities moved all of their money over to oil futures, driving up the price of crude to about 100% more of what it should be.

Most of our (USA's) economic problems right now can be traced to people on our own soil who made horrible decisions based on the toxic combination of greed and stupidity.

I blame state/local government. They collected more taxes than they needed and put the excess tax money in credit bundles and subprime loans.

Their excuse is WELL, WE WANTED TO USE THE PROFIT TO LOWER TAXES! Instead they lost their asses and much of our money.

Then they took the money they had left and invested in oil and commodities. Government is the 'speculators' who ran the price of gas up. Now they need the money because tax revenues are shit, and theyre pulling their/our money out of oil, etc.

I can only speak from my own experience with this sort of thing, of which I have quite a bit.

I am a crew supervisor for Habitat for Humanity. I work with the churches who bring refugees from exotic places. Last spring I worked on a 5 bedroom house for a family with 5 daughters and 1 son. The man and his wife are both very hard working people, as are all of their children. The only thing they have been given is the labor, such as mine, which was performed at no pay. They now have a mortgage, just like most of us and a stake in their community, so property values are just as important to them, as it is to you and me.

All of the houses I have worked on had full appliances, so boiling laundry in the yard is not necessary. Don't knock roast goat until you've tried it.

I am still wondering what is your real point? Is this just a general xenophobic rant?

The consequences of houses sitting empty and becoming the nesting places of vagrants and crackheads hurts real estate values more than any tenant or owner.

If you are looking for someone to blame, look to the people who took the financial model of a used car lot and applied it to home mortgages. They then sold the mortgages as a package, taking their profit up front and insulating themselves from the accountability of issuing risky loans.

I am not sure how our energy trade imbalance worksthis deal. Perhaps if the programs Jimmy Carter proposed in the 70's had been taken seriously, we wouldn't be in this situation. If foreign oil producers have too much of our money, we have only ourselves to blame.

Half of the people I know take anti-depressants, and most depressed people don't hurt anybody. The few that do are WAY more likely to hurt themselves than someone else.
