I'm talking with another AHer about co-authoring a piece .... not a chain but a single piece with double authors.

Is there any function that will make it so each author can receive credit for 5s (or discredit for 1s), share the views, etc?

Of course we could just agree, but somehow if we do equal work it would be nice to be fair with it.

Any ideas?

What I believe has happened in the past — and quite often in RL publishing — is that the two authors choose a pseudonym for their co-writing projects, and publish under it.

There has been some shared poetry writing and the writers have done just that, created another identity......

Oh no!!!! It's alive!!!

Nevermind the monster comment.... :D

So the separate identity is an alt. identity for the two of them?

That's not a bad idea. Thanks.

Soft: I asked Laurel this question when Tatelou and I collaborated on a piece. The answer was "No, you cannot have joint authorship. It must be under one author or the other, or under a new, shared penname. It's just the way the Lit software works."

Hence how EarlChick came into being.

Thinking of your question from a technical (database) point of view, it's interesting.
Stories are tied up to a unique identifier usually the memberid in a one-to-one fashion. It would be possible to make it work in a one-to-many way but it requires making too many changes to the existing system.

Now what would be interesting is to have some feature that allows other members to have "view" access to your stories statistics. Such a feature can be developed without modifying the existing system and might prove worthwhile.

DrF: From my outsider's POV, that would mean a lot of screwing aroundd with the security settings, plus a whole lot of issues about Data Protection and ensuring that only authorised users could view certain things. I think that comes under the head ing of 'too much like hard work.'

Of course, nobody said that your co-pseudonym can’t be Softouch911_&_Other_AH_Author for which you both know the Password. ;)

Good stuff, folks. And yes, the combined name works well, VB. Thanks for the word-on-high, The Earl.

Dr. F., I have no clue what you said, but it sounded great -- my ignorance, not your explanation, is the problem.

This is no more complicated than restricting other members from accessing your member's private page.

Yeah i have a knack for not explaining stuff. Sorry.

BP420 and I are just alternating whose page it posts on...of course, we are best friends in RL and thus it is easier to share stats, etc.

She has never been interested enough to ask for my password, or vice versa. It is more fun to talk about it than just look at it. But if she wanted it I wouldn't mind...

Not that everyone who is co-writing is going to fall into that catagory though....

Matriarch and I co-wrote a story. We decided to put it under her name, but she frequently updates me on views, votes, etc. She also forwards the email feedback to me, and I of course, can read the PC's all by my little self, lol.
We've decided to write more together, and for that, we're going to create a joint user name.

But, like everyone's said, there's no way to 'share' the benefits, lol.
I'd reccomend making a new name. It'd probably just be easier that way.

:)

Thanks again, folks.
