Other than the hearing impared, do you use it when you watch TV or Movies?

I didn't mind it in high school, because I saw it at a friends all the time (both her older sister and brother were almost completly deaf), and then, when my kids got to the sqwaking age, we put it on rather then increase the volumn of the tv, thus eliminating the need to create more noise.

Why am I bringing this up?

Well, I just turned on XXX, and put on the closed captioning, it almost always makes me think of my friends who laugh at me for doing it.

I also had kudo's to it recently, though, while at a doctor's checkup for one of the kids. The doctor asked if we use it, and I didn't know why, but I said yes. He told me that kids are more likely to be able to associate words with sound when seeing and hearing it at once, and that a lot of kid type foundations (people who do WIC, things like Seseme Street, etc) actually recommend it now.

Ok, so that was my ONE semi serious topic for the day.

Back to my red panties thread.

Ta!

I prefer having the closed captioning on and the sound relatively low. I find as I'm aging I miss more of the dialogue than I used to, yet I *refuse* to turn the tv louder. Part of the reason I watch very little tv as it is is because I don't care for the noise level.

I almost always watch movies with the subtitles or captioning turned on. My husband's gotten used to it now. I miss more dialogue if I don't have them on. And it's pretty funny comparing the captions to the spoken dialogue sometimes.

I'm the same. I go over to a friends place on thursdays for 'friends night', and she hates the captioning, and I find myself straining to make sure I hear every last detail.

The difference between spoken and captioned can be hilarious at times.
