Challenge - How Distinctive Is Your Writing?

CharleyH said:
Good for you, Mat. ;) What I want is TIME TO READ and guess, not look at the answers before me and add my take because someone I know guessed something before me. I feel it is a fair shake to give readers a longer time than writers. But, whatever Min wants is good. :D
Yeah, what Charlie said :)

BUt except for a few educated guesses, I will be throwing dice for the rest of these, and it doesn't seem fair to the writers!

:) Thanks, Minsue, for all your efforts! :)

I've only read one group so far and it's been way more fun than I thought it'd be trying to figure out who wrote what. I know I won't be able to finish all three groups in the next twelvish hours without wild guesses and that just seems wrong, so I wouldn't mind having the weekend too- but if the powers that be, and those who snuggle next to and influence the powers that be ;) , decide otherwise, I'll understand.

How about Sunday midnight GMT?

I had a method involving tabs and such but could only manage 2 lists so far. I'm really busy tomorrow and the weekend would be welcome.

(and no crying from the yanqui about midnight GMT because we invented clocks and everything)

Question: How disappointed will you be that your friends (so called) compatriots and assorted acquaintances didn't guess your unique voice? (personally I'm gutted)

edited to add: can we ask MiAmico to increase his collatory efforts at the end of the contest and for Min to apply her calculatory powers to those results and give us chapter and verse on all the data thus gathered?
Best guesser. most guessed and ecksetra.

My method has to be the absolute worst- I skimmed through one or two stories by the listed authors where I could and made somewhat educated guesses- and then pulled out my tarot cards and assigned a card to each author- the order they laid out in was the order they got listed in.

I think I may get a prize fr least number of correct guesses. :D

You might be next to last.

be selfish and uptight about time zones then. hrm.

not disappointed or otherwise if people didn't guess my 'unique' voice. fact is, not many people would guess i can be literate. i dont bother much with the shift key and im all about making up my own words so...what ev! is all fun, meester.

finally gave in. i just dont have the time/energy to make it past list A. im wicked disappointed in that. did get to read them all, however.
did i mention that i love us? cuz i do.

I'll vote for having the weekend too, not that I think it will do me much good. Time is a precious commodity that is in short supply at the moment. It's tax season, folks. Sigh.

Can'tcha just add 5 hours to the end of the day for me? ;)

Luv ya, Min. Hell, I luv ALL of you.

We all kind love you too, honey.

Wait longer to find out who wrote them? Do we have to?
I've read 'em all, guessed as many as I could - more time isn't gonna help me, but if others feel they need it...

It looks like Charley gets her reprieve. :)

Noon (GMT) Monday it is.

ETA: Sorry to those who want the answers sooner, but enough people haven't had a chance to read them all and I definitely want them to be able to. :rose:

Believe me, Gauche.......she's waaaayyyy ahead of you. Tables, charts, percentages, ratios......you name it, she has it. I'm sure she'll be passing on all the data she has when the cut off time arrives.

That sounds like a Lauren thing to do. ;)

Good move Minsue. I was going to try to do more this a.m. but got a stinking cold yesterday, I'll be lucky to do anything the way I feel!

Sorry to those who can't wait, I feel it is nicer to do justice to as many who wrote as possible. The time extension at least allows that.

I don't mind at all. I just like seeing my name next to stuff. If it's right, I am gleeful. If it is wrong, I laugh thinking, "They thought I wrote that? Hah!"

Im not sure about the extension but hey its done now.

I'm someone who attends uni 4 days a week, works 2 days a week and since the challenge opened to guessing i have had bare minimum access to the site. Yet i've still managed to have my best shot at them. I'm not bitching i'm jut saying.

Yes, i may get most of them wrong, but the point is i've done what i could on the knowledge i have. The weekend is of no consequence to me, as my attention has left the building and i am more than likely not going to have any access to the site till sunday now. So even if i wanted the time to review, i havent the access to change my answers.

~~ As for not having my work guessed correctly, i'm very flattered by some of the allocation's i've been given as to which might be mine. I actually sat and laughed at some of the suggestions thinking 'I couldn't possibly have written that! but thank's for thinking so!!!' I'm a relatively new writter here, and havent really developed a voice, but i do have some irritating habits and those that have read me and have a strong opinion on HOW i've written are probably better equipped to guess.

I find the results quite interesting. All the guesses about my silly little story attribute it to half the good writers in the AH. I must have screwed up badly :(

I hope people who have been guessed wrong are not too upset. I know they may be, but I hope the fun of the challenge is enough to overshadow that emotion.

I have been thrilled with the stories, the challenge and the guesses that are resulting from them. I have been assigned to work that is not mine, but I find it appealing and am honored that some folks believe I wrote things I didn't.

Hurt that people may/may not have gotten me right? No. I am not hurt or upset. I know not everyone on the AH reads my work and there are so many different ways to look at a story, from how one separates paragraphs, to how often dialog is used. Each story is different even if they are written by the same writer.

That's it....you guessed it. I wrote them all.

Or was it none of them? Somewhere in between? :D

I think you have hit it, Red. 500 words is not enough to truely demonstrate a writing style, especially, when the writers are so closely matched.

The story I submitted is exactly the way I write everything, except not humorous, which I don't write all the time anyway. Not one guess has come close. However, should the example have been, say, 2000 words, I think it would have been easier to distinguish the writers. At 5000 words, it would have been a total snap.
