Chain Story - Bathtubs and Broomsticks

She's feeling guilty about the length and I keep telling her to add more...

Genevieve crept through the tight passage between the walls. Here the stonework was warm, heated by the fireplace in the great hall, but she had learned during her earlier exploration that there were too many sharp edges that would snare clothing. Now she wore only a chemise, a lack of clothing almost as scandalous as this furtive spying on her host.

But this was her true mission. She had not been sent from England to be just one of Elizabeth’s servant girls - although for many, that would have been an honour. As the widow of Hungary's great hero, Elizabeth was one of the wealthiest and most powerful women in all the Christian world - by reputation, at least.

But there was another side to Genevieve's host. A reason why messengers often disappeared, and more than a few young women. Genevieve had heard the screams in the night, and had seen the coffins carried out in the dark, silhouetted against the stars. She had seen blood pooled about the iron claws of the bath in Elizabeth’s bedchamber.

And she was not alone in suspecting the Countess to be involved in some devilry. Something darker and infinitely more dangerous than the poisons and potions she procured from the forest witch.

She's feeling guilty about the length and I keep telling her to add more...
Y'all know I'm a masochist, right? Secretly I love the encouragement of "this needs to be expanded." Where I respond with the obligatory, "No! I can't possibly add more..." While considering just how much more I can sneak in without anyone *really* noticing.

Regardless of which chapter I get assigned, there's a strong chance it ends up in the 10-20k word range (particularly with vampire undertones and sensual, highly emotionally charged scenes). Three plot heavy chapters, two openings, and an end would only need one or two of those middle chapters to be given to those of us who cannot truncate their ideas and we will likely manage a chapter and a half worth of plot in one.

I promise I will try my damnedest to keep it on the 10k side!

*Hangs head in shame.* I failed miserably on this.

I think my first draft was under 10k, though! That should count for something...

According to Ero's post on Bluesky, it's 30k words. Just writing that much is an impressive achievement.
Some of that 30k is an intro note pointing to everyone's profiles and headers throughout the story... So maybe only like 29,970 words of story. (Or exactly 30k...I don't remember what the final count was. It was tempting to stop at 26,666, but... I still had a bunch to edit and kept finding gaps that needed filling...)

So.... How often is chain stories checked for pending entries? Lol. I feel like @ 13 days in pending I should've either been approved or rejected by now.

Ch. 4 took a while too. Clearly that category is a low priority.
