Can 2002 be any worse?

Starting rant now . . .

The night before I leave FL., I pack until 4am, realizing that I had more errands for later than I'd planned but everything goes OK, . . . that is, until I miss my flight. I had to buy another ticket because of the bitchy agent who refused to honour the ticket I already had. I hadn't eaten all day, so, I'm pretty excited (and starved) when my folks arrive to pick me up from the airport.

The conversation was great, as I was enjoying catching up on the news and gossip from the 'hood. But, as we pull into the driveway, I notice that my car (which I left with them at home, instead of taking with me to FL) was gone.

Then they turn to me and say, "YOUR CAR WAS STOLEN."
So, I'm in shock, thinking that this was pretty recent. But when I ask them when they found out, they tell me it happened in October!!! If you all only knew how many times I've spoken to them since now and Oct. and this never came up. They said it wasn't to upset me during the semester, but I'm mad anyway. Did they think that I wasn't going to notice when I got back?

I don't know who I'm madder at, the thieves or the folks for not telling me sooner. I mean, I had this "vacation" all planned and my plans included having a vehicle. I am so pissed right now.

[Rant on hold, for now]

Hello Mona, I don't know you, or you, me. I don't want our first interaction to piss you off, so I'm not being sarcastic with my "response" to your rant.

I actually have a few questions.

Who's paying for your college?
Who paid for "your" car?
When you were late for the airport and missed your flight, then had to buy a replacement ticket, who paid for the first and the replacement ticket?
Who has been paying to insure your car while you were gone to school?
Who's insurance rates are going to be affected by the stolen car?
Who is paying your living expenses while in school?
Who was going to pay for your "vacation" while you were at "home" for the holidays?
Who filed the police report when your car was stolen?

If you are completely independent and financially self-sufficient, then you can bitch about the care of something you left for other adults to take care of. If, on the other hand, you are a kid who doesn't appreciate what is done for you, then GET OVER IT.

hmmmmm, interesting perspective....

Hello, Mona.

#1.Things can always get worse and sometimes do.

#2.Retrospect is everything.

#3. You can't choose your blood relatives.

personal note...You know it can't get much worse when you pull the covers over your head on new year's night and thank god the year is over!

Been there, done that.

Who's paying for your college?
- They're loan/scholarship

Who paid for "your" car?
- It was originally supposed to be for my Dad's use, but he got a break and decided not to use it and stick to his old one.

When you were late for the airport and missed your flight, then had to buy a replacement ticket, who paid for the first and the replacement ticket?
- I paid for them both. They're not reimbursing me for either.

Who has been paying to insure your car while you were gone to school?
- They did. (I'll give you that one)

Who's insurance rates are going to be affected by the stolen car?
- It was solely in my name.

Who is paying your living expenses while in school?
- Touche.

Who was going to pay for your "vacation" while you were at "home" for the holidays?
- It's not really a vacation. I'm working in the business while one of their co-workers is on a real vacation. Another reason why I'm pissed. I had to work on the first day back.

Who filed the police report when your car was stolen?
- If I was here, then I would have.

If you are completely independent and financially self-sufficient, then you can bitch about the care of something you left for other adults to take care of. If, on the other hand, you are a kid who doesn't appreciate what is done for you, then GET OVER IT.

I left it in their care, but it was also another vehicle for when theirs broke down. It wasn't as if I left them with a burden, it was rather a benefit.

I appreciate everything they've done for me, I'm just saying that they could've told me sooner that's all. I'm really upset that the car's gone in the first place. :(

BTW, ty for the hug Rambrat. :)

I think I'm going to bed. Later.

There's a disturbance in the Force...

You're on vacation in your old stompin' grounds, drink in all that before you have to leave. Sure, you're a little miffed, but when you're 70 years old, will all this grief be worth it? If I was home, I'd be happier than a possum with a mouthful of yellow-jackets! Enjoy the now, and put the rest in a journal! :D

Yeah, 2002 could be much worse.

Let me see - you have eyes that see, ears that hear, hands that can type, feet to get you from here to there, a brain that thinks, insides that feel, and you're smart, and clever, and trying to better yourself by continuing your education. I think you're a success, with much to be grateful for.

A car is stuff - I reminded myself of this when mine was stolen on my son's birthday this year. (I got it back - cleaned out. The cops never called back to take the report on the theft of the contents - they considered it solved when they recovered the vehicle.) Stuff isn't what matters - people matter.

Try to focus on the solution rather than the problem. I'll bet Mom and Dad will help you out with transportation. Focus on the goals you had for the break - work and earning some money. The car thing will work out - maybe for the better, in the long run.

Polyanna? Oh Hell no! I'm too grim a realist for all that. What I've mentioned is just my experience, most of it obtained the hard way.

This is one of those damned growth experiences. They can suck, but they make us the hearty people we become.

I'm on your side - I know how you fell. It will pass, however.

Ten years from now, we'll all be laughing at this.
