Buffy: Countdown to the Apocalypse

Confused

Ok your discussion about Dawn being the next slayer and I'm a bit confused. I was under the impression that Dawn was still the "key." Why would the "key" be on the slayer list? She's not really Buffy's sister so how can she be considered part of the Summers lineage? I'm thinking maybe I missed something, you'll have to clear this all up for me please.

As far as last night's episode went I liked it a lot, but that's probably because of what the precog girl said to Spike about Buffy. ;)

I didnt check in with thoughts about last nights episode, so here goes...

I too liked what the Kassi told Spike, as well as Buffy...just gives us some hope, ya know? Poor Spike, i feel so terrible for the guy...

Dawn looked hot, again.

Didnt like the fact that there wasnt much action..i know it was just a setup episode, to show that Buffy "cares" and all, but her beating up the kid from Home Improvement and then a 3 minute fight with a Demon that was a total tool box didnt do much for me.

Still liked it though. i love this fuckin show

Glad I wasn't the only one who noticed that. I about choked laughing so hard.
Yeah I needed the hope too...was feeling a little too bad for Spike.

OK, I may have this wrong, if I do, someone will correct me. Dawn WAS the key, but the portal was already opened and closed (when Buffy jumped off the scapel and died). So now Dawn doesn't open anything.

As for her being from the Summers lineage. Dawn was created basically from Buffy. They used Buffy's blood/DNA/ ?? to make her so she is a Summers. (now the part of her being a slayer to me may have something to do w/ her being a "Buffy knockoff" of sorts -- I wasn't sure how else to say that so please don't hang me for my wording).

I had also had the notion/question (let's say no other slayer had been activated--theoretically speaking here). Since Dawn is made FROM Buffy the PRESENT slayer, if Buffy died and Dawn was alive, would another slayer be activated?? Am I making any sense w/ this quest??

Nope. Cause Faith is still alive and the current slayer "activated" Buffy has already died .. more than once..

Right, and i think earlier on in the thread, Rasta mentioned how since the first time Buffy "died", Kendrya was activated, then when she died, Faith was activated...you only get a one death Deal i think...

You missed the part where I said speaking theoretically of "lets say that no other had been activated". I know Faith is a slayer. I was just doing a hypothesis of "what IF, Buffy hadN'T died and activated Kenya (sp??) who died and activated Faith. Now that Dawn has been created FROM Buffy, if Buffy died, what would happen??"

That's all I was wondering. :)

Nothing, i dont think, because Buffy was dead at the beggining of last season, and nothing happened to Dawn, no other Slayers showed up...i think if Buffy dies, thats it, she's dead. The next Slayer won't come along until Faith dies.

I realize you only get 1 death deal. I was saying to pretend that she HADN'T died before now, and w/ Dawn in the picture (and being PART OF Buffy lifterally), what would happen. I'm not saying that she will activate ANOTHER slayer herself.

When Buffy left Spike in the basement...with him saying "Don't leave" I wanted to hit her over the head with something.

I also have the feeling that the whole precog girl (can't remember the characters name) telling Spike "She will say it" is a set up for Buffy's death. I can see the show going in that direction, just as Buffy dies she tells Spike she loves him. Which if it happens is gonna piss me off.

Eagle, thats right. Each slayer only activates one other slayer, when they die.

See, when Kassie (or Cassy, or however you wanna spell it) told Spike "she'll say it", i thought that meant that Buffy would eventually tell Spike she forgives him. Besides his love for Buffy tearing him apart, it seems like he wants forgiveness, because he continues to hate himself for what he did.

BTW, i was watching old Buffy reruns on FX, and i gotta say, damn, Sarah Michelle looked alot hotter back in the day:D

ok..let me try one more time.....IF Buffy HADN'T died the 1st time, then Kendrya wouldn't have been made slayer and died and made Faith a slayer....then Buffy would have been able to still activate a slayer. At the time Buffy died ORIGINALLY she DIDNT have a little sister. IF Buffy had not died UNTIL AFTER Dawn was created and used to open the gate and Buffy had jumped in to close the gate. WHAT would have happened ?? Since Dawn was made FROM Buffy??

good question, i'm going to defer to his uberness Rasta to answer this one...its way too complex for me:)

I'll give it a shot though...being that Dawn is made from Buffy, it almost would make her like a daughter? And from what i understand, the slayership isnt hereditary...

LOL, just so long as someone finally understands that I'm not saying Buffy will activate another slayer. I was just hypothesizing a "what if,???" thread. I really didn't mean to cause such confusion, and after it started, felt I needed to straighten it out.

I didn't take it personally, so yes, still friends. :D

that was a notion that I hadn't thought of. Quite possible she could be concidered a daughter (and thus Buffy is now raising her since mom died). I was thinking more that Dawn would be a "clone" of her (w/ the recent animal cloning, I've read that genetically they are identical, however different physical traits can emerge....thus 1 being blond and 1 being brunette...). Esp. w/ Dawn now showing her inner strength/physical abilities as she trains w/ Buffy.

I'm still thinking that if Buffy were to die for the first time now, as you're saying, then Dawn wouldnt get the powers transfixed over to her...another Slayer would still be seeked out. Just my own thinking though...i'm really not sure at all.

Dawn as the next slayer? I'm not sure if that works. She does come from Buffy, but slayerness as something that's genetic? I don't know about that.

You're probably right. For some reason tonight I got home on an analytical thought frame going on in my head and that was the train of analysis. LOL. (Yes, Yes I do have too much time on my hands..)

Thats quite allright, believe me, i have the same problem on my hands constantly...the life of a college student. Seriously, its bad, i watch Nash Bridges for the love of God, i'm becoming a tv junkie.

Welcome to lit, btw. :) Nice ta meet ya

I vaguely remember those days (thinks back through the fog). Not seen Nash yet. I generally only watch maybe 5 hrs of tv a wk. Too much real life stuff and computer stuff.

Oh man, Nash Bridges is the BOMB yo! Its Don Johnson's and Cheech Marrin's show...its on USA at like 1 in the afternoon, and midnight. Jesus, i'm 19 years old, and Don Johnson is the man in my opinion, lol.

But i do get to watch like 2 hours of Buffy reruns a day, so it makes things wicked good.

The whole Dawn becoming the next slayer/DNA thing needs some more thoughts so here goes... I'm not Joss Whedon or familar with the actual goings on to choosing the next Slayer so I am probaly wrong but what I have to say may have some merit. If slayer's are choosen by something that is inside of them genetically then Dawn would have to be considered to be in the running for Slayerhood because she has the same genes as Buffy, who is already a slayer.

The biggest problem I see with Dawn becoming the(A) Slayer though is that it is so predictable that Whedon won't do it.

Buffy and Spike... I think will she declare her love for Spike before she dies because it needs to be that way, just needs to. Remember when Spike went to Africa and met with the demon Spike said " She'll get what she deserves..." I truly think he was refering to her finding someone to love that won't end up leaving and hurting her (At least that is how I think Whedon was trying to make clear). The look in Buffy's eyes when she found out Spike got his soul back and when he is hurting conveys a deep seeded love she wants to give to Spike. Eventually Spike will earn enough trust from Buffy that she won't be afraid to love him and they will have a brief but very joyous and love filled relationship before she dies.
