Buffy: Countdown to the Apocalypse

I'm glad you have nothing to do on Tuesdays...I've tried to post on the buffy website but for some reason it won't let me sign up, I finally gave up. I was wondering what you guys thought of Dawn? Since she came on the show I've hated her...every episode I at some point rant and rave to the tv about how she should become a vamp and get staked or she should fall down a long, dark hole...things of that nature. I'm wondering if I'm the only one who gets rubbed the wrong way by her or if other people dislike her too.
 
Dawnie just takes some getting used to. They've toned down her whine factor significantly. If you scroll back over the past few pages, there's some Dawn talk, I believe.
 
I'm not sure I'll ever get used to her...oh well I still can't pry myself away from it. I finally read all the pages, very insightful to say the least. I think this is going to make for a great season. I saw that you said the CD for the musical episode was out...where would I have to go to get it? That was one of my favorite episodes, I didn't get to tape it so I was trying to buy it off e-bay but right before the auction ended they cancelled it since you can't sell that. Luckily they re-played it and I got to tape it.

Methinks there shall be a dozen active slayers on duty before the end of this season. Random thought, yes.

Why would I think you are Hanns? You are not a jackass and have a cool car.
 
Wisconsin, 1985. A family pulls into the drive of a remote boarding school. The young daughter, Gwen, is bundled up in a thick coat and gloves. Her parents, looking worried and nervous, introduce her to the headmistress, who thanks them for their generous donation. The money will be used, in part, to accomodate Gwen's "special needs." The parents can come back to visit when classes end in June. They leave sadly, and Gwen walks away with the headmistress. When she reaches out for the woman's hand, it's slapped away with a stern, "No!"

The lady isn't just being mean, either. Later, we see Gwen sitting under a tree during recess, trying to open something with those heavy gloves. Frustrated, she removes one and tries again. A little boy comes over and asks if she's a freak, then surmises that she doesn't look like one. He offers her a toy, and she reaches for it with her ungloved hand. When she touches him, he gets a jolt of electricity and falls to the ground, unconscious (and possibly dead).

Angel, Fred, and Gunn are removing things from Cordelia's apartment. Fred and Gunn kept up the rent for a couple of months, but they couldn't afford it, and they have to move her out. They've contacted Lorne twice and the police seven times, with no luck. Phantom Dennis knows nothing, and is mostly just irked that Cordy isn't back yet. Fred is getting particularly stressed out about everything, and even snaps at Dennis (after making a wisecrack about that "ungrateful snot" Connor). Angel, however, is calm, and determined not to give up on Connor or Cordelia.

In some dank location, Wesley is finishing off a demon. He's helped by two men, and it becomes apparent that there is a Wyndham-Pryce Investigations now. Angel shows up, and Wes sends his assistants to complete the assignment. He doesn't have much to say to Angel, who offers an olive branch, telling him that things are OK between them now. Wes coldly hands him a folder with information on Cordelia's disappearance, and theorizes that she's probably in another dimension, although he has no idea which one. He suggests that Angel seek out a demi-goddess who can tell him where Cordy is. Of course, this deity can only be sought out by the dead, is completely untrustworthy, and likes to trap victims in her lair forever. But hey, Angel's been through worse....

So, Angel finds the lair and convinces the Goddess of Ick to give him some clues. She already knows a lot about him, and decides not to keep him captive, since he's still got "so much more to lose." She does tell him to look for the Axis of Pythia, a mystical object that will help him locate Cordelia.

A leather-clad hottie strides into a restaurant and sits down across from a wealthy businessman. She's wearing long gloves, and not much else. Yep, this is little Gwen, all growed up, and she's a tough customer. The man, Elliott, has hired her to steal the Axis of Pythia for him, but he's shafting her on the commission. It's being held at a heavily guarded auction house, and he gives her the security plans, telling her that she can deliver the Axis to his office, and she'll get the rest of her money there. She reminds him that she'd better get all the money she's owed. Just to make her point, she swipes Elliott's watch, takes off a glove, and zaps the timepiece into a heap of smoking metal.

At the Hyperion, Fred is giving a presentation on the Axis of Pythia, complete with a very bad drawing (Angel makes a much better one). The Axis can locate souls or entities across dimensions, and they're going to a have a hell of a time getting hold of it, since the auction house is locked up pretty tightly. Angel is confident, as usual, and Fred goes to draw up plans for the heist. Angel and Gunn are both impressed with how much Fred has taken charge in the last three months.

As they discuss what they'll need for the mission, Gwen is shown making similar preparations.

Wesley and Lilah have rough sex at his apartment, revealing plot points as they go. Lilah has found out about Justine and the situation with Connor, and she's looking forward to befriending the lonely young man, who may be looking for a "Mrs. Robinson" figure. Wesley is quite upfront about the fact that he's only been pretending not to care about Angel, pointing out that Angel is necessary to help in the fight against people like Lilah. Naturally, she's turned on by all this, and the scene gets very TV-M before it ends.

Gwen disables the security cameras at the auction house and gets inside. Angel, Gunn, and Fred are not far behind, and also make their way in. Angel notices the cameras aren't functioning, but says nothing. Fred has a plan laid out - she'll try to hack into the security system while Gunn takes out the guards and Angel sneaks into the vault and steals the Axis. Gwen sees some of this and is none too happy about these interlopers.

It isn't long before the catburglar's out of the bag. Fred notices something amiss while she's working on the computer, and Gunn sees that the one guard he has to take down is only one of several....who are already out cold. Angel gets trapped behind a metal gate as he's about to enter the vault.

Gwen lowers herself from the vault's ceiling and makes the laser beams that guard the room bend out of her way. She also disables the handprint recognition panel simply by touching it. She explains what she's doing (it's very physicsy), and relishes the way people have become dependent on technology, since that makes her job so much easier. "I'm a freak," she states proudly, as she grabs the Axis and prepares to leave.

Angel pleads with her not to take the Axis, assuring her that he's not trying to get money for it, but needs it to look for someone. By this time, Gunn has arrived, and he vouches for his friend. Gwen is amused and goes about her business. Angel and Gunn manage to get the gate up a little ways, and Gunn slides under, grabbing for Gwen as she lifts herself to the ceiling. She zaps him and he falls violently to the ground. Angel gets in, just as Fred approaches the opening, and she looks on in horror as Angel checks Gunn for a pulse.

There is none.

Gwen, remembering the incident with the boy at school, runs over and gives Gunn a jump-start. Angel tries to stop her escape, but they need to get Gunn to a hospital, so there's no time for pursuit.

Lilah is following Connor around town, and Angel appears beside her, noting her interest in his son. She wonders what his plan is, and laughs when it becomes apparent that he's just going to let the kid learn the error of his ways. That whole noble routine just does not register with her at all. Angel mentions that the Axis of Pythia was just stolen, and assumes that only a Wolfram & Hart client would be likely to have the knowledge and money to acquire such an item. He tells Lilah that if she helps him, he'll overlook the fact that she was within 50 yards of Connor. He also points out that he can smell Wesley and Lilah all over each other.

She has an hour to provide the information.

Gunn recuperates in Fred's room, but he's not the one having problems right now. All the stress and pressure of the last few months have really, really been getting to Fred, and almost losing Gunn has sent her over the edge. She thought things would get better when Angel came back, but they haven't. Gunn tries to comfort her as she breaks down sobbing.

Angel finds Gwen in the lobby of Elliott's office building. Outside the elevator, they start to fight, and she's amazed that her attempts to electrocute him aren't working. They tumble into the elevator, and one of her zaps makes his heart start beating. Suddenly, he lunges forward and kisses her.

The elevator starts to move, and Angel pulls away, reminding himself that he needs to focus on finding Cordelia. They arrive at Elliott's office, and he's standing there with some henchmen. He's upset at how sloppy Gwen's work was in acquiring the Axis, and miffed at her behavior in the restaurant. He traps her and Angel in the elevator, which has been fitted out with protections against Gwen's abilities. He also calls her a freak.

The elevator starts to fill with poisonous gas. Gwen can't do anything, but Angel busts through the wall and gets to an electrical panel. He grabs Gwen's hand, and she sends a charge through him and into the panel. The door opens and Angel helps a weakened Gwen into the office.

Elliott's goons attack Angel, but he makes quick work of them. Gwen comes to and goes after Elliott, preparing to barbecue him. She's mad at being called a freak ("that's my word") and tells him she's been struck by lightning 14 times, which explains her conductive talents. Just as she's about to attack, Angel stops her, and decks Elliott himself.

Gwen looks at Angel, and notes that anyone as bad at stealing as he is must be doing it for love. She lets him take the Axis to find Cordelia.

At the hotel, Fred and Gunn wait outside Angel's room as he makes use of his new supertoy. When he's done, they go downstairs, and he tells them what he saw. Cordelia was beautiful, enveloped in a light made of "pure joy," and seems to be in this state permanently. They're all saddened - but not terribly surprised - that the Powers had something like this in store for her, and Angel comments that it's at least good to know that she's up there somewhere, still on his side. Cordy is "where she belongs."

From above, Cordelia, who has been observing all this, calls out: "What are you, deficient? Get me out of here!"
 
Ok, took the time to read through all of the pages and I am ready to comment.

Willow's gayness factor... Ok she did say "Hello, I'm gay NOW" and that is enough to be thought of as coming out. But, she also thought she was straight at one time so in my infinite wisdom I say she is truly Bi because she found LOVE with both a man and a female. If Whedon fells it advances the Buffy saga he will have Willow and Xander finding love and if it doesn't advance the story he won't write it in.

Buffy the counsellor... This very well could turn into something very very good. She was brought in to help the students cope with and prepare for the evil that lurks in Sunnydale. It also brings her into the school to keep an eye on the Hellmouth that will reopen and bring forth the battle of all battles. The principle will turn out ot be a Whistler type demon, but will he be working for evil or good? I don't know nor can I speculate on that.

The First Evil... Is behind Spike viewing the evil beings of before just as it was behind Angel being haunted by those he hurt. It is giving that vision to Spike as forewarning and also to drive him completely mad. By making Spike completely mad It will be able to use him to get close to Buffy without Spike recognizing that he is doing so but Spike will see it for what it truly is before he can do anything drastic.

The Hellmouth... Will reopen and spew forth the demons that will make up an army for the battle of battles I mentioned before. And guess what demons and evil beings will be able to come through the Hellmouth... You guessed it, the evils of before that have been previous vanquished by our hero Buffy.

Slayers in training... Are being picked off by beings that work for the First evil because these slayers will make up the army that Buffy will lead against the army of evil that the Hellmouth with spew forth. Buffy will fall in this final battle and her first lieutenant will lead the army of good to final victory. The one who leads them to victory will be Dawn, the sniveling girl we love to hate. During the battle the old guard will also fall, Willow, Xander and Giles leaving things on a new level.

I have no clue how close I am to what will really happen but I am confident in my thinking. All things said are speculation by myself so it really shouldn't be trusted completely. :) If you have any comments on what I have said feel free to give me your thinking and reactions because like others I love a good Buffy debate.
 
SW, well now.

Whedon has said it a few times before. The last Slayer, in the early 21st century, will be the one to shut the Hellmouth for good, but she has to hop in to do it. Death, is her gift.

Don't know if that means you thought what I said was possible but I will assume it means you don't. But with what I said it could or could not mean Buffy is the one who will close the Hellmouth. Even with what I said it sounds like a possible ending even though I didn't know Whedon had said that but it still leaves the possibility of Dawn being the next, and last Slayer. Maybe I am digging myself in a hole by going much further beyond what i said than I know or believe. Maybe I will have to leave the ending to someone who keeps up with what Whedon says about the series.:eek:
 
Don't forget that Faith is still active as a Slayer, even in prison. Plenty of possibilities there. She's the only one who can spawn a new Slayer, since Buffy did it once and it's a one time deal. Who's to know who she'll spawn. Could be anyone. But 2 possibles have already been killed by the Hooded Guys, so it's likely Dawn, if she's on the list, is waaay far down on the list.

True, I overlooked Faith. And as you said that makes for many possibilities... Faith dies, Dawn is farther up on the list than people think... Buffy takes Faith into the Hellmouth with her... Lots of the possible Slayers to be are killed off in the battle, Faith dies, Dawn is appointed... All the mystical Summers blood is enough to close the Hellmouth anyway... The Powers that Be circumvent the whole Slayer dies new Slayer is appointed business...lot's of things that could happen. But regardless of what happens it will still involve the Summers lineage somehow, it has to, otherwise the whole Buffy saga becomes close to being pointless.

Too much emotion though.

When did it get all mushy and gushy?
