My favorite is still a local restaurant/diner. Good food and prices.

We have a pizzeria two blocks from us, and on a bad wind day, we can smell the pizzas baking. We've had friends from other states when they visit tell us that they prefer Pizza Hut over the pizzeria because it's the same as they get at home - NC, TX, and VA - even before having a taste!

Once they have the uneven crust, sometimes with cheese bubbles, they change their tunes, and ask how come they can't get the delicious goodness in their family-owned pizzerias.

Nothing compares to a good pizzeria pizza. I don't even got to chains for pizza anymore.

We've started yet another page which pleases me. The new Bistro is doing well, soon we'll be in double digits. Thanks to all who participate.

It's still warm outside, not as much as anticipated. I think I will wait until Thursday to take the computer in for a checkup. I don't relish lugging it around when it's this warm.

There is a Dominos Pizza here that is literally 4 doors down from me. Their pizza is excellent, reasonable and they are generous in their toppings. Had one a few nights ago. Oddly, they right next door to a Pub / Pizzeria that opened here. It's this place's second location, I was a regular at the original. They have the best "home made" pizza I've ever had (even better than Charlies in their prime)

I love the smell of pizza baking. One of the best aromas there is.

It helps us here in my area of Upstate NY that one of the major suppliers of mozzarella is in my county LOL

I just had a pizza when I was in Tn. Small local place and they just started with pizza. I think at least four workers checked and asked how I liked it. Iy was awsome, home made sauce with just the right spices and not too much cheese.

That is one of the things that made the 1st (of the two) Pizza / Pub's pizzas so good - their sauce. The difference between the first one and their new location was noticeable. They also had good Panzerotti (which is the name I was trying to think of last night - some places call them Calzone, but they are the same thing)

Dang, now I'm hungry - I will have to eat a bit before going out later.

When I visited TX for the first time, my nephew was working at a highly celebrated local pizzeria. He brought me in there. I had one bite and told him it tasted like Chuck E Cheese pizza: Weakly spiced but overly salted sauce, bland too doughy crust, and the cheese was just wrong. He smiled, because he had been telling the owner for months that it was wrong, all wrong.

The owner asked what should the sauce be like. I told him, just tomato, basil, garlic - either fresh or granulated - black pepper, and half the amount of salt. They tinkered with it and came up with a good facsimile of a good NY state one LOL

The dough, they used less per pizza and it worked out. The cheese, they mixed it, used 2 parts part skim - which melts better - to 1 part whole, and add some Parmesan to it as it's shredded.

One thing that has changed that I do NOT like - Italian Sausage.

In the "Charlies" days, I used to order a side order of Italian Sausage. It was like farmer's sausage - except it was a darker red in color, with beautiful flavor. I could have eaten pounds of the stuff.

Now - while I like the new stuff - it's like "kibble" in shape - small little hunks of meat. Nowhere near the flavor of the old stuff. All the pizzerias use it now, I haven't been able to find the other version in decades, not even at markets.

the pizzeria uses the same sausage on pizza as they do on sausage and peppers sandwiches and when you get it with your pasta. Good fennel taste, some red wine undercurrent, and less garlic than kielbasa

THAT is likely the stuff I want. I would bet the red wine was what made the original a dark red color. The new stuff tastes, oddly, of licorice - ever so slightly. I am fairly sure anise is one of the spices. As I stated, the flavor is fine, but I like the old style, sliced round and thick.

I know Sausage and Peppers is Italian - but I wonder if it's Italian / American? I've never once seen it offered at any of the Italian places I go to / went to here.

Off pizza for a moment - the other day I submitted 2 stories - within hours of each other. Yet one is up and the other is pending. ????

Me again. Thrilled to announce I just finished another one and there are more on deck.

To some of you, it might be "Eh - no big deal". But to me, who had such issues writing for such a long time, this is amazing news. I'm almost back at the author I used to be.

To have 3 (or more) done in a week is something I haven't done in a while.

Yay ME!

Licorice means there's too much fennel seed or ground fennel seed. The red wine will both color the sausage and mellow the fennel out

Welcome to the Bistro BAREFOOTGIRL. I am the founder, and co-host, BrettJ.

Stories? Well, I've got 512 you can check out, with 2 more soon to post.

I had pizza last night - pepperoni, roasted red peppers, and spinach.

Dinner tonight is grilled chicken pieces and corn, if the rain holds off.

I see that NRSE is taking a page out of my play book.

Pizza Hut here - has had issues. One closed. One - well, let's just say there is a certain person running that one that broke my heart into bits.

~sigh~

Found a glitch or two in my latest (the one I just submitted) that needed fixing. That's what happens when you go to bed and finish it the next day. I will re-submit it, the glitch is fixed.

Pizza hut around me pretty much failed other than the to go shops. They did at one time have a cherry desert pizza that was really good...

Hello Jim and WB to the thread.

Thanks, BrettJ. It has been a busy summer. I'll try to drop in much more often. You are still producing great stories. Congrats on the new Bistro.

Already been text that it's a fast stop at the Little Ceaser for a hot n ready cheese and probably a pretzel pizza for me and one of the boys. And 2 orders of crazy bread.

Wife and one son have gone vegetarian. The boys like the hot n ready's plus it will be a really late dinner. Have to plan it for after practice tonite so around 9 pm or so.

Hot N Ready. Coacheric sweetness that took my mind off Pizza!!

And a Good question for the Bistro ladies. Hot and ready but over fairly quickly. Or a slow heat that works up to an inferno. And simmers for hours? Me...I prefer the mature male who can keep it simmering for hours :)

Variety is the spice of life

Hello all, back from coffee.

"New Orleans" Pizza used to have both a cherry and apple pizza dessert. I ate a lot of 'em in my younger days.

Thanks Jim - got to keep working and writing.

Goodness I'm busy for a couple days and the Bistro zoomed right along. I agree that variety is nice. Ideally a man who can offer both fast and hot. Or long and simmering. I am sure not all but most younger men just don't have that lasting power. Again that's not all of them. My mood tonight would defiantly be a slow cooked meal:) . How has everyone been ? Hello to the new faces.
