Me and KC were IMing and talking about books we've read and ones we want to read, and she said that we should start a 'book club' thread. So I was wondering whether anyone would be interested in something like that. Also we'd need to decide whether we would just talk about books we've read, or if we'd choose a book for everyone to read, and then talk about it.

Check out What do you recommend -- it's kind of in that vein already.

I think book tastes vary quite dramatically across our mad bunch. But it may well be worth trying!

I think cutiemouse should send a resume with pic to all of us single Doms.

Anyhow, I bought a new book today. It's The Everything Pilates Book.

Some of you might just scoff and think. Hey, that's not a BDSM book at all. It's a damn book on an exercise program. And you would be correct except for one thing. Joseph Pilates' training techniques were used to train the SS. And they were pretty sadistic, so it can by a stretch be BDSM. That and it's exercise which could also be BDSM.

So anyway, it's got something to do with strength, flexibility and body awareness.

If anyone in here is a Pilates guru just keep a lid on it and I'm looking forward to learning this stuff, not in being dazzled by your brilliance.

:)

I also got the newest in the Dune series. The Battle of Corrin. Suckers....:p

Y'bugger!

There is a new Terry Pratchett book out too. I didn't get that one today though.

Monstrous Militia I think it was called.

Seen that -- I gave up on Terry a while back now. It's way too much of a muchness. I occasionally borrow them from friends.

You flirt! :p

Hmmm.. I hadn't thought of a BDSM resume. That might be fun! ROFL *Sigh* It would be terribly short, but I'd have to include that during periods of extreme stress the only thing that helps to release all the trension is giving blow jobs. LOL

As for the Pilates book- mmm yes! Pilates is very cool! I need to make more time for it. I was going to take a class this semester, but decided until I have a better idea of finances I should stick to doing it at home. I can tell you if you do it properly 5-10 minutes of Pilates can kick your ass. :D And if you do that 5-10 minutes every day for oh say 2 weeks you see signifigant results... which would be why I like Pilates. ;)

I'll chit chat about any book that was chosen, but would prefer BDSM books since that's what I'm trying to focus on and there's such a wealth of knowledge and understanding on the boards. :rose:

Tell me more about the Pilates.

The blow job thing is interesting. In times of extreme stress? It seems that when the events in your life are stressing you out then perhaps there is a need to have something that is entirely within your control. A blow job! I know that a lot of subs are dominant in all other areas of their life outside the home and the opposite for Doms. Kind of a switch off to find balance maybe. Perhaps in giving up your body and mind to pleasing a man in this way you also find that in your ability to please him a balance.

I could be nuts, but tell me about the Pilates. In general. How long have you been doing it and the results and all of that.

Well, we both discovered that we are both into vampire books. As KC said, they're the ultimate dom. But we could all take turns choosing the book. I dunno, it's just an idea.

And you're divorced? Your ex must not be too bright. lol

I am just re-reading the sci fi classics Ringworld/Ringworld Engineers by Larry Niven.

There is a part in the beginning of the second book that always kills me. THe hero, Louis Wu, is about 300 years old due to futuristic medicines and in his total ennui has become a "current addict". An implant in his head sends a small electrical pulse to the pleasure center of his brain which keeps him in constant ecstasy. The usual fate of current addicts is that they shrivel up and die from starvation and self-neglect because they can't bring themselves to shut off the power. But Wu builds himself a unit that has a shutoff timer that can't be reset, and every day when it shuts off he goes through a robotic regime of exercise, martial arts, eating, bathing and so forth, then plugs back in for another 20 hours or so-for year after year.

I love that scene so much, it seems totally bdsm to me for some reason and also echoes on other levels of my soul.

There's actually a third in that series that I should pick up and read, at some time.

They are a part of Larry Niven's "Known Space" universe, and I can't recommend highly enough the rest of the books. Larry Niven is one of the few authors for whom I will read short story collections.

Sadly, he has a rather debilitating form of arthritis (from memory) that effects his hands, so he doesn't write much any more.

There are now 4 books in that series.

Ringworld
The Ringworld Engineers
The Ringworld Throne
Ringworlds Children (released earlier this year)

Niven's certainly not as prolific as some but thats not necessarily a bad thing. And he's certainly got a wealth of stuff out there to read.

Highly recommended non-Known Space stuff.
Footfall
Lucifers Hammer
Oath of Fealty
Heorot
Beowulfs Children
The Dream Park series

*SF geek here! Waves a little flag*

Just today, flipping thru Ringworld, I realized how much Niven was obsessed with CONTROL. C'mon, the starship whore Halrloprillalar trying to bend Louis Wu to her whim via sexual servitude..."every woman is born with a tasp"...it's perverse!

No wonder I loved that shit as a teen.

What I"d like to reread it Bram Strokers (sp?) Dracula. I haven't read it since I was 11, and it's a really good book. I'm sure if I suggested Little Women, I'd lose the interest of a lot of people.
I also was thinking, that we could also take turns reading eachother's stories, and then talk about them. I know that KC has a couple of good stories, and so does Luna. What do you all think about that?

If you're hunting for nifty vamp books, I have to throw in Laurel K Hamilton's Anita Blake series. Lots of vampires in there.
Series starts with "Guilty Pleasures" and takes off from there.

Haven't read B.S's Dracula yet... may have to find a copy of it somewhere.

I can offer a link to Dracula in MS Reader E-book format ....

Bram Stroker's Dracula

The "read each other's stories and comment on them" is a good idea. But I'd suggest a separate thread for that.
