Good morning, Snake... :)

Today is supposed to be the best day of the week here in CT. It is only going to be around 50 degrees but there isn't going to be a wind. I've decided that we aren't going to see anymore warm summer days so it's time to get the ride ready for winter storage.

I'll bet that gas heater feels good right about now in the mornings. Hope that beautiful grand child is keep'n grandpa busy. So have the two of you taken your nap together yet in grandpa's easy chair... ;)

Good morning, girls and boys... :)

TGIF... :nana: I have the day off but I am still going to be busy. But it will be a fun busy... :)

I finally managed to deplete the food in the freeze and got to clean it out. Now it's time to restock for the winter months and the holidays. I have to visit my buddy this afternoon. He supplies many of the restaurants with meats. I was the guy that helped him keep his fleet going over the years. He gives me a hell of a break on meat and dairy products. So I order that stuff from him. I called in a small order last week and will pick it up today. I also have a fresh 20 lbs gourmet turkey on order for Thanksgiving with him. I'll pick that up a day or two before Thanksgiving. Being a hell of a good cook I love Thanksgiving and the delicious scents that fill the house. Never know who will show up and no one has ever pushed away from my table hungry... :D

I do have to do a little local grocery shopping this afternoon. Was planning on making a chicken and sausage gumbo this afternoon. My lady friend has injured her back and I get to spoil her this afternoon... ;) I enjoy doing that. She is the one that has taught me to smile again and made life fun. I'm gonna catch hell for that. She has a tendency to be a little shy and a little hesitant since her divorce. I am still earning her trust and thats the way it should be.

The leaves have been falling like gang busters around here. I will rake them up this weekend. I am going to use some of them to cover the herb garden. Still have to do some treats shopp'n for the local hob gobbins... ;)

Sweet Jesus a guys work is never done.... :D

Well it's off to get my day started. Want to wish everyone a super great Friday! Catcha ya all later... :D

Miserable day here in NOVA. Great ride in to work this morning. Not so great coming home in the rain. I hate stupid MFing drivers. Pouring down rain and they STILL insist on pulling out in front of the guy on a bike. Including a refrigerated produce truck that did it then was forced to stop in the middle of the road because he could not complete his turn due to traffic. Stupid could have waited as there is a left turn signal at that light. However, guess he was in a hurry so decided I could stop quickly.

Hey, Doc stop your bitch'n... ;)

Sorry to hear about the ride home in the rain. I have only been caught in a major rain storm once and hated it. I was on a sports bike and no face shield. The rain felt like some one was driving 10 penny nails into my face. I finally found a under pass to wait the storm out.

Now as far as 4 wheels go they will never have respect for us 2 wheels... I used to stop and help out when I'd seen a 4 wheel motorist stuck along the side of the road. I don't do that any more!

Have yourself a great week end... :D

Good mornin' everyone....

Never been much into gumbo Jaded, but mite give it a try. I know just how ya feel doc, it started rainin' here Thurs. nite, all day Friday, and was still pouring when I went to bed last nite, but seems to be stopped now, altho its still wet/too early to really tell...I gotta get out this mornin', I think I left an ol' glider down by the river, don't wanna lose it, should the water get up...
The heater is doin' great jaded, altho I am still very partial to a good roarin' fire in the woodburner... :) ...Gr-daughter is doin' great, and growin', she is scheduled for a picture settin' today....I need to cut some wood today, but I do understand it's s'pposed to warm up next week...I am still hopin' for one more good ride...Hope evryone has a great saturday...

....Ridin' my bike is not a matter of life, and death...

........It's more important then that....

Good morning all. Nice thread you have here Mr. Jaded1. I scanned thru all the pages and looks like a nice place. My ride of choice is my 1500 GoldWing Aspencade. If'n I can remember how to put pictures up on here, I'll try and do that, later. I have been riding off and on for over 30 years. My first ride was a 1972 Yamaha 360 Enduro. Bought it to ride back and forth from college. Wasn't to my parents liking.

Yes the weather is getting lousy,,,even for October! I live in Detroit, MI and today is not good for riding. Chilly and wet.

I notice we have all kinds of people from many places. Some are still looking to ride. If anyone has any questions on Motorcycle Safety, I would be happy to try to answer them. I have been teaching motorcycle street riding for the past 10 years.

Looks like a day to clean the basement! Have a great day all and nice meeting you.

Stay safe.

Hello Knightwing, and welcome,

Am sure jaded will welcome ya as soon as he comes back, he's probably still doctorin' his woman... ;) ...This is indeed a great place to visit'/post, like any place bikes gather, we are all friends here...
I also have the 1500 goldwing, '97 SE, don't think i could ever ride anything less... ;) ...But like i have always thought, don't matter what ya ride, we are all riders....

...welcome...

Good News and Bad News.

Well, the weather has improved, the streets are clear and clean, but the as previously noted, the damn heavy snow pulled all the leaves off the trees, so it looks like putt, but only after the work is done.

One of my best friends and a former bandmates in my SF band in the 70's committed suicide yesterday in Santa Clara, CA. I got the call last night from his roommate and a fellow I'd jammed with a couple of times when I've been out to the coast to see him. He'd been feeling sick for a while and I knew he was despondent when he called me back in August. I told him to go to the VA, which he did, which probably saved his life that night, but he didn't talk to anybody this time...or leave a note. This is someone who I've known thirty years, we went through our divorces, bands, break-ups, life changes together...this is something powerfully awful.

So today is a day of mixed feelings and reflections. Going to try a short ride this PM and see if I feel better.

...my thoughts and prayers are with you dinny...I had a friend, take his life several years ago...altho we hadn't been close for years, it still bothered me, an still does to this day....always kinda pissed me off, that someone would do somethin' like this, and leave his loved ones/friends to ponder the 'why'....

.....wishin' ya the best.....

Good afternoon, brothers and sisters... :)

I am finally able to get on. Guess the server was have problems this morning kept getting a 504 timing out problem...

Actually Snake the gumbo came out very good. Both my lady friend and I both enjoyed it. First time I have ever made it. Had a nice little bit of a bit to it for a cold day which was perfect. I'll still post it if anyone else wants to try it.

Snake and Doc I want to thank you two guys for sending the rain my way... Just what I don't need more rain! It just got done with a pretty loud thunderstorm here. Didn't see any lighting but lots of thunder. The intensity of the rain has been varying all day so far.

Welcome to the thread WingKing. Enjoy your stay. Your always among friend here on the Biker's Run thread. It's simply a thread for bikers by bikers (or those with that biker attitude... ;) ). I may have started the thread but it belongs to everyone here. It's success or failure all depends on everyone here. We try to keep each other aware of events in are area. Making are hobby a little more fun. I recently started back up on two wheels (25 years) after raising two beautiful kids. I recently purchased a 1981 Honda GL1100 Gold Wing Interstate. I had to sell my 1975 Honda 750 (highly modified) Super Sport after the divorce and end up with custody. I had a couple of years playing on a Honda CR250 (ex factory race bike) two cycle. My Interstate is a full dresser with lots of chrome. She was in storage for over ten years and need work when I got it. It has only 30,000 miles and is in excellent condition. I was planning on posting a picture as soon as I can figure out how to do so also... :D

Dinny I am very sorry to hear about your friend. It has a deep meaning when it is a good friend. Someone that you have shared many experiences with. I lost a very good friend in the military. I was in his wedding the month before. He died in my arms and there was nothing I could do about it...:( My thoughts will be with you.

Well I am gonna run for now. Have a great weekend one and all. Catcha ya all later... :D

As promised...

Chicken and Sausage Gumbo.
Make your Mardi Gras marvelous with this recipe!

Ingredients:

2 Pounds of boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into ¾ inch cubes.
4 ½ Teaspoons Cajun seasoning (Angel Dust).
2 Tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil.
1 Pound of Anguilla sausage (or French sausage w/garlic).
1 Cup diced yellow onion.
¾ Cup of thinly sliced green onions, both the white and green parts.
½ Cup of diced red onion.
2 Cups seeded, diced green bell pepper.
1 ½ Cups of diced celery.
1 Tablespoon seeded, minced jalapeño.
1 Tablespoon of roasted garlic puree.
½ Teaspoon dried basil.
½ Teaspoon dried oregano.
¼ Teaspoon freshly ground black pepper.
¼ Teaspoon ground white pepper.
½ Teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes.
2 Small bay leafs.
8 Cups of chicken stock.
1 Cup Dark Roux (see recipe below).
¼ Teaspoon of file powder, a spice made from ground sassafras.
2 Large sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into ½ inch cubes.
White rice.

Directions:

Toss the chicken and the 4 ½ teaspoons of Cajun seasoning together in a medium size bowl and set aside.

I prefer to use a cast iron skillet to cook the sausage in. Use a fork to pock holes in the sausage casing. Cover the sausage in water and cook in high until the water was completely evaporated. Reduce heat to low and brown the sausage. Allow to cool and cut the sausage into ½ slices.

In a large heavy duty enameled cast iron pot heat the oil. Added the chicken to the pot and cook until a nice brown (approx. 5 mins). Added the sliced sausage, the diced yellow onion, the sliced green onion, the diced red onion, the diced bell pepper, the diced celery, the minced jalapeño, the roasted garlic puree and sauté until the onions and peppers soften. Add the chicken stock and the sweet potatoes. Then add the basil, oregano, black pepper, white pepper, red pepper flakes, and bay leafs. Added the cup of dark roux. Simmer until the sweet potatoes soften. Then add the file powder. Do not allow the mixture to boil once the file powder has been added.

I used minute rice and prepared enough for the amount of people eating that night. I do not like to leave rice sitting in a broth as it becomes mushy.

DARK ROUX

Ingredients needed:
• 1/2 cup oil
• 1 cup flour

In a saucepan, heat oil over medium heat until just smoking. Whisk in flour, a little at a time and cook, whisking constantly, until roux becomes smooth and thick. Continue to cook, constantly stirring with a spoon and reaching all over bottom of pan, until roux darkens to a rich brown nutty color, about 25 minutes.

Yield: about 1 1/2 cups

;) My Lady and I ate this Friday night and we're not dead so enjoy everyone!

"Riders up and ride safe.... :) "

Thanks for the thoughts, folks...

The missus took me out to eat today to give me a chance to air out. And I did...guess I was feeling a little responsible 'cause I'd always been there to bail the guy out when he got himself in a bind in the past, and I wasn't there for him this time.

Took a short putt this afternoon and put things back in perspective.

Dinny, ya can't go on beating yourself up. It was his time. Do you seriously think that he would want to see you all fucked up like this. What do you think he would say to you right now. You have been a good friend in the past to him and that is all that you can be. You gave it you best shot and that is all that can be asked of anyone. Bro if he was in a great deal of pain he is in a better place now. It's alright to morn his loss, but don't blame yourself!

Yup!

Thanks, Jade, that's sort of the conclusion I came to on my ride yesterday afternoon...with all the beauty in this world and a willingness to enjoy it, experience it and express it, its hard to understand. I'll miss that son of a bitch though...he was a hero to me...he went from being a janitor at the post office to touring with Bobby Bare for two years as his lead guitarist, that's pretty f**king impressive to a two bit guitar player like me. He could play Jimi Hendrix or Wes Montgomery dead on. I hope other folks will remember that about him. He was pretty reclusive the last few years. I did write a eulogy for him on my blog on myspace. Any one interested can check my profile and click on the website link, the blog links are on the right hand side of the page.

Today I'm headed out to the TV studios to set up the processors and monitor station so we can get the damn thing back on the air. Then, got the cable folks coming to set up the Direct TV. You know these cable people are always pushing sports, but us musicians are usually working during games, so I rather see what the other musicians are doing. Ride safe if you can.

Good evening, everyone... :)

It was a very rainy and windy week end here in the small town of Woodbury, CT...:( The windy tore up some of the Halloween decorations. Spent the morning picking up branches in the yard. I did manage to get the patio table set, gas grill, one of the Weber charcoal grill (I leave one out to cook steaks out on in the winter... :) ), the lawn ornaments, and lawn mower put away for the winter.

Needed to get some grocery shop'n in today so I jumped in the van to go to the store. The van wouldn't start. It cranked over but sounded like it wasn't getting gas. It was running great when I shut it off Friday evening. Sprayed a little either into the air filter box and it started then died right out. Called my son (GM rep.) and told him what was happening. Agreed with me and thought is was a fuel problem. The van has a electric fuel pump in the tank. Told me to look for a blown fuse in the fuse box. Surer than shit there was a blown 10 amp fuse in the slot called ecm2. Replaced the fuse and the son of a bitch started right you. Guess the moral of my little story is when he was a young'n and had a problem with his dirty bike or first cars Dad was there to help him out. Time passes and car became computerized. Now I'm always at a loss and gave to rely on him to bail me out. Now I'm the student and he's the teacher. Life goes full circle. Just the ramblin's of a crazy olé bastard... ;)

Who about them Giants... :nana: Still on top in the NFC east. Eagles are a game and a half behind... :D

Well I do hope everyone had a decent weekend... ;)

Sorry to hear of the weather woes in the North East. A marvelous day here today. Yesterday was a little wierd as it was clear except for a few patches of very dark clouds. As those suckers approaced though it reminded me of the bad southern storms. Wind picked up big time. Spit a little moisture out then they were gone though. However, not before one particularly nasty set of them caught me out and about. The Harley was difficult to hold up in those cross winds man. Nothing though compared to what I have read of the winds up farther north though. Power knocked out, a motorcyclist killed by a tree falling, a crane blown over, and a man blown overboard on a cruise ship. WOW. Wind gusts to 75 MPH they said. One thing I worry with this Harley is its "Jiffy Stand." The old heavy duty stands I had to rock my old bikes up onto were tough at times but never had to worry about being blown over. I do not think the Harley stand would hold up to 75 Mph winds.

They tell me it will be nippy here for a bit but in Dec./Jan. that is when it will really hit. I hope it holds off in time for our fall break at school and I will just park it at the dealer here while I am in Arkansas for x-mas. Thought of a ride home but I know the mountains in December can be dicey and the only other choice would be go far south and come back up. So think I will just park it at the dealer. Sucks not to have a garage or at least a carport. Oh the big city living. I hope though that MAYBE if I get out on the weekends it will be time to do the 1000 mile work and I have my eye on some bobbles for the bike, maybe even a new louder exhaust, AHHH more chrome to shine...LOL. If I get like $500 in work done the dealer will let me store it free for the winter keep it all cleaned up, charged up, etc.

Yeah Jaded think one of the worse things about new fangled vehicles is all the computerized crap. Even the Harley is computerized to a certain extent. Gotta wait on them to get the downloads to upgrade my exhaust system. That is alright though I am still undecided. Go with simple screaming eagles tips or have them install a new dual system. I like the duals with the fish tales. A classic look on a bike. Mine being a Heritage and I think duals would bring out some more of the nostalgia.

So anyone been on their first Patriot Guard Mission yet? I did one promotional thing at Oceana NAS and am coordinating another at a Vets Pow Wow we are having here on campus. Was supposed to go cheer on a wheelchair bound vet as he did the Marine Marathon this weekend but that thing never came together. I have yet to do a funeral mission. Most of mine here are at Arlington and thus during the week. One day though I will make one of those.

Well, Doc, I got a reply from my state captain, but only to tell me to keep an eye on the forum to see what was going on. Nothing in CO, as far as I can see, and the weather's changing again the middle of the week, though we aren't expecting snow. I'm going to get out as much as I can till I can't feel my fingers on the throttle. Ride safe y'all.

Good morning, everyone... :)

Sure it Monday and I have to go to work. The sunny is sneaking around the corner of the house... Wasn't about to take the bike out in 55 mph wind yesterday. Just not that good of a rider yet.

Received another dame VA benefits questionnaire. This is the third one. I applied back in the tale end of July and still getting jerked around. Sent that one back in this weekend. I'll tell ya it's not the country I went off to serve...:(

Hey Doc, the PGR are doing a ride on November 5th in honor of Veterans day here in Connecticut. I don't really have cold weather riding gear, a 3' x 5' flag set up yet, or enough 2 wheel experience yet to try that this year. I have been holding off on really long riders because of no medical coverage in case something did happen. I didn't think it would take three month to be approved by the VA.

Well gang I have to start to get ready for work. Just wanted to jump on and wish everybody a super great day... :D Stay dry and stay warm.

There are not chapters but yes they are in all 50 states. Just broke 60,000 strong. www.patriotguard.org.

Ya know guys hate to rub it in but did you see the weather today just south of the Mason Dixon? Holy cow. Not a record high (83 degrees in 2004) but a beautiful 73 degrees. Just my luck I was stuck at work all day darn it. Got out this evening. I hate freakin traffic but a beautiful ride home. Did not even want to stop to eat so I am eating a late peanut butter sandwich LOL.

However, from the looks of the National forecast you guys up north got some B-E-A-utiful weather as well. Indian summer? Jaded hope you did not put that bike up yet. Looks a might bit chilly at night but some nice riding days over the next week. Just the way it should be cold nights for snuggling with someone special and warm days for getting out and riding.

Hey, Doc... :)

Were I work I don't dare bring my bike too. It's a shopping center parking lot. I see them ramping into one another all day long. I honestly don't know were these people are in such a big hurry to get too. If you have to be in such a dam hurry to get some where ya leave a little earlier.

We have a good chance of hitting 70 degrees here tomorrow. Of course my ass has to work. I'll get home just in time for the trick and treaters. This weekend it's supposed to drop down with a high of around forty during the day and I am going to be at my son's on Sunday storing my bike in a heated garage and visiting with my beautiful grand daughter... :D I have accepted that winter is with us.
