Big Australian Snakes

Our snakes are protected species. Only indigenous peoples can kill and eat them.
There are exemptions if they pose a threat to life or it's close to an occupied property. Interesting article here:

'Still, wildlife experts strongly advise against killing snakes, warning people who do so put themselves at risk of a more serious penalty — severe illness and/or death.
"Statistically speaking, the vast majority of people bitten by snakes in Australia are attempting to catch or kill the snake at the same time," Mr Parkin said.'

Exactly. We keep a handy little H&R Snake Tamer .410 for exactly that reason. Spreads to about 6 inches in 20 foot. The only ones I shoot round here are the ones hanging around stock. Most just pass through. I catch and release pythons. They’re gross and piss on you like a frog if they get nervous. But the fangsy ones gets invited to move along.

I’ve met a handful of snakebite victims over my 56 years. One jumped down of his sugarcane harvester to check something and stood on an angry taipan and was dead in twenty minutes. Another was an older lady who caught what she thought was a tree snake in her aviary and it turned out to be a keelback. She died in hospital a couple of weeks later sadly succumbing to organ failure due to age. The others were drunk cowboys who were showing off to friends and trying to kill them with poly pipe or shovels.
