Bethothed.....

Ian led Adewen out of the home and locked it as well as he could. He took her down a few streets and to the shops. He joined her for a short while and gave her some money to spend. After he made sure she was doing well there he gave her directions to the stables and went to prepare the horse. He arrived to the stable and went to the animal.

He spent all the time before Adewen got there making sure the horse was packed well and ready for the trip. He had just finished when she got there. He smiled at her and took her package of clothing and packed it onto the horse. He led the beast outside and then took Adewen by the hand, taking her next to the horse. He helped her up and made sure she was settled on the back of the horse. Then he started to lead the horse in the direction of the city gates.

Adewen didnt pay much attention to where they were going not because she wasnt curious but simply because she didnt know the way and so trusted him to lead.. She could still feel where his hands had rested on her hips as he had lifted her up into the saddle.

Had he noticed or felt the same.. she didnt think so, and found it curious that she was feeling things for this man she had not felt with any other, what did he feel she wondered, were these feelings normal.. should she ask .. dare she ask...

She remained silent for most of the way awncering him when she was spoken too, but mainly in thought wondering how a wife should act.. if they had wed like her mother and father for love she would have kissed him at least once or twice or held his hand as they walked.. but as he had not said wether or not he wished such attention from her she did not broch the subject.

The deed was done after all and her mother had warned her that some husbends only visited there wives for that purpose and once she concived never visited there wives again.. unless they wanted more than one heir, or if the child were born a female insted of male... was her husbend such a man.. ? would he wait to see if she concived before touching her again??

Weary of the silence between them she asked.. when you spoke of your parents you mentioned your brother and sister... what are they like?

Ian noticed how quiet Adewen was as they started their journey. If she didn't feel like talking he wouldn't make her. He was fine with his own thoughts. He still had a lot to plan out for his future as well as hers. He asked her a few questions about her family and some other things. It was all to help him come up with ideas.

After a while, once they were out of the city, he was surprised to hear her ask about his siblings. He started to tell her all she might want to know about them. He told stories from their childhood and from the recent years as well. He talked so much that by the time he was telling her about their wedding they were nearly at the cabin. He finished just as they got there. He smiled at her and hoped that it was enough information.

Outside the cabin he reached up and helped Adewen down from the horse. Once she was down he removed all their bags and carried them inside. Then he returned outside to escort Adewen inside. He took her by the hand and led her into the cabin. It wasn't too big, but it was big enough for the both of them. He looked at her and smiled, hoping she liked it. He had come to realise that he needed to make things as nice for her as he could. A happy marriage would make life a lot easier for him, and a lot less stressful.

They arrived at the cabin and tho small Adewen thought it rather cosy in its own way.. she helped him carrie things inside and not sure what else to do begain prepairing the bed and a meal for them to share while he tended to his mount.

When he came back in she asked a question that suprised even herself because she spoke with out thinking.. Will your family hate me when they find out you've married an english lass ? she had been wondering what there reaction would be and handnt truly ment to ask but she had..

Besides if she ever met them in future it would be good to know what to expect.. That is if she ever met them she had no idea how long he planed to stay in england or if he planned to return to scotland..

seeing the suprised look on his face she spoke before he could have a chance too.. I am sorry i shouldnt have asked.. forget i said anything.. she stopped hearing a rider approching fast... and moved to the window to see who approched..

She gasped it was Richard... he had found them some how.. Its my brother.. with out thinking she turned to run for the door not to flee but simply to greet her brother happy to see him.. not reolizing that Ian could take it that she was trying to run from him..

When Richard faced Ian face to face he waisted little time on words he simply drew back his fist and connected with Ian's Jaw and commenced to fight with him.. not with swords but with fists... in between saying things like ... warned you... my sister.. bloody bastered..

All Adewen could do was stand back and watch because getting in the middle would only cause them both to yell at her.. stubborn men anyway..

when the fight was over.. and both men were out of breath stairing at each other.. Richard smiled.. and clasped Ian on the back.. causing them both to wince a little.. welcome to the family..... You'd better treat her right.. once i've had more training i'll have no problems hunting you down if you do.... he said still breathing heavly..

Adewen rolled her eyes because just like that she knew they were now freinds.. Men she thought... Richard had you given me a moment i would have told you i married him of my own free will.. she said receiving both a scowle and a smile from her brother..

dont get me started you your behavior miss.. i'll leave you in your husbends command now but dont think i wont give you a good lecture over it if i think its necessary... Adewen stuck her toung out at her brother and left the two of them to talk while she went inside to set another plate incase her brother stayed.

Ian spent a little time getting the horse fed, watered, and tied up outside. When he finished he returned to see that Adewen had started cooking. He smiled softly, glad she was still taking initiative. He was about to say something when she caught him off guard with a question.

He simply stared at her for a moment while he thought about what the answer might be. His initial idea was that they would hate it. However he knew that they were more open than some. Yet they were still Scottish and she was English. He was about to give her an answer when she said to forget she said anything.

He was still going to respond when he heard the horse approaching. He wasn't expecting anyone so he wondered who it might be. Adewen saw who it was first, her brother. He got nervous and watched her go quickly to the door. He moved faster. As her brother arrived he pushed past Adewen to stand in front of her and block her brother from her.

What happened next Ian could have easily seen coming. The Englishman struck him in the face. Ian could have taken a knife and gutted the man, but decided that it would be more satisfying to beat him up. He fought the man, taking out all his anger and frustration with the punches.

Ian fought wildly until Richard seemed exhausted. He was tired as well so he took a short breather. He stared at his opponent, watching him and waiting for his next move. If Ian caught his breath first he planned to knock the man out with one hit if he could. Richard surpised him though. He smiled, and then embraced him andpatted him on the back. Ian could do nothing except just wait to see what was going on.

Richard surprised him even more by then welcoming him into the family. Ian forced a smile. Then at his warning it disappeared again. The man had no idea what he was getting into if he came after Ian. He might be a soldier, but there was no way he was as well trained or as experienced as Ian.

He was relieved when Adewen cut in and lied to her brother, saying she had willingly married Ian. He hid his confused look from her brother. When he said he would be fully willing to lecture her he just stayed out of it. When Adewen went inside Ian led Richard back to his horse. "You have no need to worry. I will care for your sister. She is in good hands. I would normally invite you to stay, but this is our honeymoon and supposed to be time alone. I hope you understand. I also hope I didn't hurt you too much. Have a nice trip back to the city. I'll send Adewen out to say goodbye to you."

Ian left the man with his horse and went back into the cabin. He smiled at Adewen. "Your brother will be returning to the city now. You can go ahead and say goodbye to him before he leaves." He let her go out, but stayed next to the open door to listen in in case she told him anything that she shouldn't or that might give Ian away.

Adewen's face lit up as she rushed forward with out thinking she placed a kiss on Ian's cheek before slipping past him and out to bid her brother fair well..

She thought about telling her brother the truth, but decided against it.. it would do no good they were wed wether she had been willing or not and there was no undoing it. Tell father i am well and god speed brother.. Richard huged his sister and road off down the path he had taken to return to the castle and his duties.

At least Richard thought as Ian's wife his compangions in arms would not be so interested in her and if they were they would not dare approch her Ian would protect her, and he need not worrie so much for her.

Adewen waited until she could see her brother no longer and then turned slowly to re enter the cabin.. She was quiet haiting having lied to her brother but knowing it had been for the better. Would she and Ian be happy together? she hoped so..

Are you hurt much? she asked noting a few bruises beginning to form her brother and his scuffle.. she wondered what his reaction would have been had his sister been in the situation she now found herself in.. but it made no matter..

Ian listened carefully to the conversation between Adewen and her brother. He was happy when she didn't tell him anything. It was actually quite simply a goodbye. When the sound of the horse died away he moved away from the door and over to the other side of the cabin. When Adewen finally returned he smiled softly at her. Once again she showed him that this would work quite well. He felt very lucky.

She asked him about being hurt and he shrugged. "I'm not doing that badly, as long as I don't touch them. It will be a little tender tonight, and tomorrow I might be sore, but I've fought tougher. I won't frighten you with tales of battle, but I've seen more than your brother, that is for sure. I hope your people never attack Scotland because I'd hate to have your brother die in battle. I'd also hate to have to kill him if we were on the same battle field and met in combat. It would be a very tough thing to do. anyway, let's think of happier things, like dinner. It smells quite good. What did you make?"

Adewen had been concerned for him and even curious when he mentioned scotland but the longer he spoke the more her happy demenor vanished.. she didnt argue with him because she knew he had a point that one day that could very well happen.. and she like him hoped it wouldnt.

Altho she knew he simply stated the truth of matters she didnt have to like it..Adewen turned back to what she had fixed when he asked what she had cooked and said.. Its not much just a simple stew.., and some bread i hope you like it.

She dished out two bowls of the stew, as well as sliceing a couple of peaces of bread and settled down at the table to eat with him..

It wasnt until later that she became nervious .. would they share the bed ... would they only sleep or would he want more of her?? would she remember it this time if he did...she wasnt sure... and wanted to ask if it were normal for her not to remember much of there first time..

Adewen looked into the flames of th harth as she thought and spoke part of what she was thinking allowed.. Ian?... do we share the bed.. i mean do you sleep with me.. she bit her lower lip knowing she was making a mess of asking him what she wanted to but couldnt help it..

Ian took a look at the food that Adewen had prepared. It looked pretty good. He sat at the table and smiled softly as she placed the bowl and piece of bread down in front of him. He started to eat. He sat there silently, thinking to himself, planning out the future more. He had more to consider now that the recent events with her brother had taken place.

Every time he looked up at Adewen he could tell she had something on her mind. He knew she had something she wanted to ask. He wasn't surprised to hear the question either. She looked even more nervous after asking. He smiled softly to try comforting her. "Well Adewen, we are husband and wife, so we will sleep in the same bed. If you mean intimcy though, I think that tonight I am too sore. That fight with your brother left me hurting and I think that any activity tonight would hurt. Anyway, we will sleep next to eachother."

Adewen tried not to look as relived as she felt and hoped she managed to succed. she relaxed a little and even smiled as she cleared the table when they had finished with there meal.

She was slowly coming around to liking him a little, and at least not be afraid of him she just wasnt sure what he wanted from her besides her silence which he garinteed by the marriage they now shared..

Would he take her north to his family or take her back with him to court.. she didnt know and could only wait to see what he had planned for her.

Ian finished his meal and relaxed at the table as Adewen cleaned up. He started to think about her and her family. Why had a merchant been at the king's court while there were war preparations going on? What purpose was there. Sure, they would need supplies, but why was he there at that time, when it seemed the only others were soldiers. He decided he needed to learn more about it. It was the only lead he had to anything deeper.

He got up from the table and went over to Adewen. "Hey, so you know a lot about my family now. Can you tell me about your family? I'd like to know more about my wife and her past."

Adewen both felt and heard him as he approched her, she finnished washing and drying the dish she had in her hand then turned to awncer him.

There isnt much to tell really.. Like much of my family I was born and raised in London, My father is a very welthy merchent, as was his father before him.... he owns 2 ships of his own and sails to different ports around the world bringing back, spices, silks, and perfumes.. as well as other things.. she shurged not sure what else she could tell him.

Adewen moved back twords the table the dishes dryed and put away she sat down with him and talked some more..

My father mannaged to save the money to buy my brother a commission so that he could enter into training to one day become a knight suriving our king.. which is how Robert was able to become a soldjer, but sence father got him started he has proved his own mantle and is well on his way.. There was a note of pride and admaration for her brother and his sucess in obtaining his objectives...

Our mother died when i was very young.. i dont remember much accept what Robert tells me.. because he is at least 6 yrs older than I.. I was 1yr old i beleive..Once Robert was happy on his way in life all father had left was myself..

She didnt tell him however that her father blamed her for there mothers death.. she had never really recoverd from giving birth to Adewen and had become I'll eventually by the time of her first birth day giving in to death..

Here she looked away for a few moments lost in thought... I did what i could to help by keeping track of the accounts my father allowed, but mostly i was a disapointment, i am sure he is happy to be rid of..

Looking back at Ian she reolized it was late and she wondered if he were as tired as she was.. It its late .. shall we go to bed ? she asked not really waiting for an awncer she stood slowly and pushed back in her chair before walking twords the ladder that would lead up to the bed above where they would sleep..

She begain removing her clothing quickly hoping to get beneath the covers before he arrived.. she left a single candle lit beside the bed so that he could see when he joined her.

Ian listened to Adewen tell him about her family. She didn't have any stories like the ones he had told. He just thought she wasn't trying though. She could easily come up with something more exciting. When she told of her brother it made sense and he nodded slightly. She seemed proud of her brother, though if she knew how he stood among real soldiers, it might crush her. He really hoped that the man never had to fight his people.

When Adewen moved on to speak of her mother he could sense the sadness. It was not a nice story to hear. Then she said that she felt her father blamed her and thought she was a disappointment. He frowned. He was sure that the man wasn't happy to be rid of her. She needed to think better of herself.

She didn't finish, instead suggesting bed. He nodded. He followed her over to the bed and removed his clothes. He slipped into the bed slowly. He didn't hurt at all, but made a few sounds to make it seem as if he did. He leaned over and blew out the candle and then rolled onto his side to face Adewen. Without a word he drifted off to sleep.

some ideas

Adewen lay quietly in the dark for Ian to fall asleep and soon followed once she reolized he was indeed sleeping.

The next morning she woke and slipped out of bed trying not to disturbe Ian as she did so she dressed quickly and went outside to the out house or gardrobe.. she washed her hands and face at the well after drawing a bucket of water up for its use and brought up a second one to carrie into the cabin for there use inside.

She was humming a tune and enjoying the early morning air, and found herself smiling at the new day.. even as she wondered what her husbend had planned for them to do today.

Ian woke the next morning and got out of bed. It seemed Adewen was already up. He got dressed quickly and went outside. He cleaned up quickly as well and returned to the cabin. He went over to Adewen and smiled softly at her. "Good morning Adewen. I hope you slept well. Is there anything I can do to help you with breakfast? Anything like that? We also need to decide what we want to do today. We will be here for a couple of days before going back to the city. Is there anything you would like to do?"

Adewen thought about Ian's question and wasnt sure what they should do so suggested they take a picinic and get to know one another better, it was a beautiful day and didnt look as tho it would rain.

She wasnt sure what they would talk about there wasnt much left for them to learn about the other still spending time in each others company would go a long ways twords building some trust wouldnt it..

She packed there lunch and waited for him to lead her where he would.

Ian shrugged when Adewen suggested a picnic. He thought for a minute and agreed. It would be something to do. He let her pack a lunch as he had breakfast. When he finished eating the simple meal he got up and went to the door. He didn't know the area at all so he simply looked for what seemed like a good direction.

When he picked a way to go he went back inside and grabbed the package of things Adewen had packed. He led her out of the cabin and across a field toward what he hoped would be a nice spot. He had no clue where they would end up. After a while he spotted a small lake. He decided they would go there. It was still in the distance and a bit of a walk, but he didn't mind.

The day was beautiful the sun shown brightly and the birds flew over head with few if any clouds hear and there as they walked threw the trees to the lake. which looked cool and inviting but sence she didnt know how to swim Adewen decided it would be best just to sit on the sandy shore and maybe walk along the edge bear footed.

She glanced over at Ian and smiled Its beautiful here.. i am glad we came..

Ian had enjoyed the walk and liked the spot they had found. It was great that England had some nice spots to go. It was nothing like the lochs back home, but it was a quiet, peaceful, beautiful place. He smiled at Adewen as she said she liked it. That was a good thing. As long as she was happy he would not have problems with her. He walked over to the edge of the water and waded in a little. It was cool and relaxing. He sat in a spot where he could have his feet still in the water but the rest of him dry. Once settled he laid back and just relaxed. He took one glance to see where Adewen had settled down. "Let me know when you get hungry and we can start lunch."

Adewen eyed him warly and a bit amused as she watched him wade into the water a bit before settling down, but soon was as relaxed as he was and enjoying the quiet peace around them for the time being..

she settled the basket holding there lunch on a rock a little back from where he sat by the water, and feeling a bit mischevious but unsure how he would react she wondered if she dared splash him with some of the water from the pond. her consious warned her she shouldnt but her mischevious side won out and so...

she walked closer to him her feet in the water but stayed just out of arms lenght or so she thought as she suddently splashed him with water and laughed as she watched him jump up and turned to run..

Ian was happily relaxing and had no idea what Adewen was doing. He didn't really care that much either. He closed his eyes and almost fell asleep there. It was very comfortable. It didn't last long though. Without warning he felt cold water hit him. He bolted up into a sitting position and saw Adewen starting to run away. He could hear her laughing and knew she was just trying to have fun, not trying to be mean. He chucked and shook his head slightly. He stood up and splashed some water back at Adewen. Then he chased her. He quickly caught her and picked her up. Once he had her securely in his arms he carried her out into the water until he was knee deep he grinned at her for a moment before saying anything. "Now, give me one good reason why I should not drop you in the water right now."

Adewen had laughed and was fully soaked from the splashing and wading in the water they had both done by the time he caught her and lifted her in his arm's but when he carried her further out she clung to him her arms winding there way around his neck her eyes widening at his words..

Please don't i cant swim.. she said not knowing that he was only up to his knees in the water.

Ian was a little surprised by how much Adewen clinged to him as they got deeper. She seemed very frightened. When she said she couldn't swim he had to chuckle a little. "I am not that deep. If I drop you, you will be able to sit on the bottom easily. As for not knowing how to swim, everyone should learn how. It is not that hard. Would you like to learn? I'm sure I could teach you over the next few days." He smiled and started bringing her back toward dry land.

Adewen was both suprised and pleased with Ian's offer to teach her how to swim.. Truly you would teach me ?.. she asked as he carried her back to shore, and seeing the truth of his words on his face she smiled saying.. Ohh thank you..when do we begin ? there was both excitment and a little nervous fear mixed in at the prospect of learning what he would teach her.

Ian was pleased with how happy and excited Adewen seemed by the idea of learning to swim. He smiled at her and gave a slight nod. She asked when they would start and he chuckled. "Right now of course. I just took you back here to shore so you can get ready. You can't swim in all those clothes. Strip down to the bare minimum of clothes. Then I will start to teach you." He smiled softly at her and took off all but some underwear covering himself. It was to help her feel comfortable. He would have gone into the water naked if he had thought she would feel ok with that.
