The points you make about violence around the globe are all valid without doubt.
Here’s my chief concern about the Middle East conflict.
It’s been foretold that this is the site where the End of Days begins.
Several of the interested parties have nuclear options. If pushed into a corner, how will Israel respond?
Russia? They’re fond of Iran. What if they decide to GIVE them a thermonuclear device?
Serious missteps could turn a glowing sandbox into our smoking conversation pit in, what,
40 minutes?

First, there is no end of days asides from the ones that the priests and pastors scam their believers with. That’s just what the Christian religion says about the end of days. You must have lived long enough to hear about another apocalypse right around the corner. The end was near before your grandmother was born and it’ll be near long after the last of your grandchildren die. The end will be near because telling people “the end is an indeterminate time away” doesn’t get the donations pouring.

The nuclear argument doesn’t hold water because the same could hold true for many of the other conflicts, asides from Sudan. India has nukes, China has nukes, and of course, the US has more nukes than anyone. Russia is highly unlikely to give a nation they don’t outright own a nuke for the same reason you don’t give a friendly neighbor your bank account info… that is the source of your strength, why the fuck would you give it up?

Ultimately, the Israel/Palestine issue is a meaningless distraction designed to make good-hearted patriots fight each other so that the most craven and cold-blooded amongst us can rob America blind. Meaningless debates about the morality of foreign nations is what trump-worshippers want because we get so distracted talking about this that we ignore their attempt to destroy American democracy. It’s high time trump-worshippers suffer for trying to blind America like that.

The 40K number comes from Hamas which inflates their own casualty numbers. Since last October Hezbollah has fired over 9000 missiles from south Lebanon at civilian targets in Israel.

But I’m no more immune to Palestinian suffering as I am to suffering in anywhere else outside of the US. I could ask the same of you.. don’t you care about the millions of homeless Rohingyans and other suffering groups in Myanmar? What about the displaced Sudanese? How many more Ethiopians are likely to die in the coming months? Do their lives not matter because their homelands aren’t where the supposed end times happen?

If I could do something to stop these atrocities, I would. But I can’t. In that context, I have to limit what I can do to the advocacy that is most relevant to me… i.e., the USA.

If you are an Israeli, Palestinian, Lebanese, etc… then it makes sense for you to care more about it. Otherwise, without the filter of religion, it’s difficult for me to understand why you would care more so much more about them than the myriad of other suffering peoples of this world.

Israel’s strikes against Lebanon have exclusively targeted Hezbollah which has been attacking civilians in Israeli for 11 months forcing 10s of thousands to flee for their lives. Many of the Lebanese people are rejoicing in the attacks against Hezbollah, who they see as invaders and oppressors.

Hamas could end hostilities in Gaza right now if they released the hostages. The war will continue until the hostages come home.

I’m no thumper, but I do read the Bible. There are many bits of wisdom that are still relevant today.
