I have taken children on road trips since I became a parent. Cross country, even.

Why would any age be too small? Hell, the younger they are then the easier it is. They will sleep most of the way.

As long as you aren't the type to get frustrated and pissed off when you have to stop to feed or change them (or make frequent stops to go to the bathroom - I usually stopped every 1/2 a tank to fill up and let them get out and move around) then it's all good.
