What else is new?
Obama gets a pass until 2011, that when the expiration of the Bush tax reductions hit your local 1040. As far as raising taxes go, it'll be interesting to see how that plays out in a recovery.

The main thing there would be to listen to the Grandmother Jones and what her majesty's spending priorities are, my guess is on homes for the middle-class, but the trick is going to be in the delivery mechanism and who is forced to assume the risk. What the hell, why should I worry, Barack will own the Banks now, money for the middle-class will no longer be a problem. A guaranteed loan program won't require any new taxation...
I do know the Democrats got a taste for writing checks under Bush, their appetite is whetted, and they have a financial crises fully in hand. I see money and earned tax credits for everybody as well as a budget that is cheerfuly projected to be in balance in ten years, no seven. Did I say seven? in Five Years, under our plan, the budget will be balanced!
How long do you think he'll be in office before the repubs have the congress back?

Less than a day. It's a 'throw the bums out' mood this year, so a hefty portion of dems who are up will be out. Elephants, too, but since they're in the minority...
Great Lover, I led off with it...
page 1 or 2...
I used to listen to Jack on KMBZ before Rush came on. Smart guy, got me to read Peter Duesberg's book. He had this lib co-host, Mary, and one day, she just melted down, and that was pretty much the end of the show and they replaced it with a Libertarian from Nebraska, or Iowa...,
Wonder how I missed this thread.
Throb, this one's for you...

since when is gwendolyn brooks not a poet?
One more item of interest. In his 1997 book, A Kind and Just Parent, Bill Ayers walks the reader through his Hyde Park neighborhood and identifies the notable residents therein. Among them are Muhammad Ali, “Minister” Louis Farrakhan (of whom he writes fondly), “former mayor” Eugene Sawyer, “poets” Gwendolyn Brooks and Elizabeth Alexander, and “writer” Barack Obama.
aye. quotes within quotes.
i'm trying to decipher the meaning of including the titles in quotes. is he saying the people are members of those professions, or is he saying they are wrongly attributed with membership in those professions?
it's not very clearly written.
this guy prides himself on literary criticism?
Barry's starting to get VERY defensive concerning Timothy McAyers. Seems to be getting some traction out there.

Read the article. He was humble enough to submit his work to the same tests.
He scored low. I would be higher, I parrot Grasse...![]()
bah. i'm just a spectator. i keep waiting to see what new weird shit is gonna happen between now and election day.
Okay, so supposing we accept that Ayers is a pal/mentor/sponsor of Obama's and that Obama looks up to the guy for being an activist like his mom...which is basically what I feel after reading through the various accounts.
Should it be surprising that a modern Democrat born in the 1960's would have '60's counterculture idols?
Doesn't that make him, along with his pot and cocaine use, a lot like the Yuppie core of the Democrat base?
Yes, it pisses me off how politicians all downplay and distance themselves from their friends and past in order to appeal to the great unwashed masses...and it surely makes Obama as big or a bigger hypocrite than McCain as a result.
But is this the smoking gun, the great character flaw that will tip the polls back to McCain in the voting booth?
Uh...I don't get the sense that it is.

Ayers Weatherman activities are almost secondary to what he and Obama were up to in Chicago with the schools.
And Ayers is just a part of it. How many people has Obama thrown under his bus this year? It's GOT to be getting crowded under there. He's still trying to stuff Ayers under the bus, dispatched Jesse Jackson yesterday, The right Rev. Wright, that catholic priest that talks like a southern Baptist and behaves like Rasputin, and his grandmother. The guy just seems to have this never ending stream of people that he's having to disassociate from. Big red judgement flag there.
No highschool or college buddies. No former co-workers. Nothing. It's as if he suddenly appeared on the planet sometime in the 90's.

He'll pick them all up off the pavement, dust them off, and bring them all home after the election.
