Barack Obama is lying about not being friends with Bill Ayers...

This is what you get when the ignorant write stories.

Let's start with the fact that pilots, no pilots, are trained in damage control. In situtations like that people that don't know what they're doing only endanger the people that do. If there were not trained people dealing with the situation, and there obviously were, then McCain, or anyone else that had some capability might be faulted. That wasn't the case.

Agreed. I also spent eight years in the Navy, my friend. (Do you like my little impression of McCain there?) I do know how things operate, even though I was just a lowly female enlistee. There was at least one other pilot who did take part in "damage control," and was suitably honored for his efforts. But you chose to ignore that part.

As fas as his taking R&R, a pilot on a carrier that cannot launch or recover aircraft is about as useful as the tits on a boar hog. I see nothing in the portion you C&P'd that indicated after his R&R he transfred to a squadron on the USS Oriskany and was subsequently shot down.

Have you read the entire article? I can post it if you'd like me to, although it is ten pages long, which is why I chose to cut a portion of it.

Oh, I forgot. It's from Rolling Stone, and everyone knows that those damned Lefties are incapable of reporting facts, right?

What would be written about him had he stayed on the Forrestal for the ride back home?

Perhaps that he had taken part in the honoring of the people who died in that tragedy, rather than trying to pal it up with a high-profile reporter.

All in all a bullshit article.

Tim Dickenson is not exactly a hack journalist.

Doesn't really matter, it was a hack job.

Yes, I read the part about Hope. Fine. No mention was made as to whether Hope had recieved damage control training somewhere along the line. Hopes heroism doesn't diminish McCain in the least. The author is trying to make a connection between the two that just doesn't exist, while diminishing McCains efforts to help the EM get ordnance away from the conflagration. I'm not making a case that McCains efforts were above and beyond, merely that he recognized a threat the the ship and lent a hand to eliminate that threat.

The author, and you it seems, appear to disapprove of the fact that McCain went back into combat rather than take the sail home and attend the ceremonies. There is an implicit passing of judgement there that the dead can only be honored in a prescribed manner. I know enough to know that honor is given in many different ways. Some of those ways aren't necessarily consistent with regimental formations, speeches, and solemn ceremony. I pass no judgement on McCain in this issue. That is between McCain and his shipmates, not for those who weren't there and didn't know him.

It is alledged by the author that McCain was 'sucking' up to the reporter. There is no way for any of us to know that the converse wasn't true. McCain was the pilot of the plane that got hit by the rocket, and I'm quite certain the reporter was well aware of his geneology. It was a formula for an interesting story. It's also worthy to note that McCain has a track record of being fairly gregarious and open with the press. They didn't crowd aboard his bus, and now his aircraft, because he held a gun to their head and forced them. I submit that McCain was being McCain. If you don't like that, fine, I for one just don't buy the spin.

The author also alledges that McCain was only doing what he was doing to try to keep up with his daddy (or grandfather, or both). That's just a guess on the authors part. I'm certain that the author really has no appreciation as to the low tolerance threshold the services have for primadonna scions of high ranking officers, or senior NCO's for that matter. If anything it's a burden. Those above you expect more of you and those below you believe that the only reason you achieved anything is because of your daddy. I'm certain that McCain felt the pressure of that, but it didn't come from his daddy or the press, it came from his shipmates.

All in all the article is a pretty cheap hit piece written by someone that's never been there or done that.

If only I was willing to excuse Capn America for all his bogus prior complai ts...,

Yup - on purpose.

I've heard McCain say repeatedly that he was a smart-ass rule-bender as a fighter pilot...something by the way that smart-ass fighter-pilots almost never admit.

I think his openess about his failings, beliefs and personality are admirable.

For that reason, I prefer him to Obama as a man.

And my reason is almost the same. Obama has managed to deny virtually everyone that has been a part of his life and virtually everything he did that might not sit well with others.

I've got a real problem with that type of personality.

He hasn't been around long enough to be so skillfully evasive.

However, there's a generational divide at play and I think voters under 35 just don't see that red flag in his messaging.

That one does not apply here. I am well beyond thirty-five.

You've put your finger on it Lance, rose colored glasses tend to mask those flags.

Let's not forget, men like Ayers have been working the school system to produce a style of thought that sees the red flag not as warning but rally; the rally to fairness over equality.

It was the fourth essay in Rand's book, "The Compach," I'd better look that up, just a second...

Actually it's the third of the first three essays on education that opens the book, "The Comprachicos."

People are losing their life savings, and 401K's and you think they care about this Neo Con Right Wing Christian Coalition fear mongering?
