Are you a female? Are you depressed? The newest solution may or may not be something that you want to part-take in: Semen. Scientists are researching the quite probable possibility that semen can alleviate feelings of depression in women. This shouldn’t sound too surprising to most people! Sex has always been regarded as a mood-booster so why wouldn’t the remnants of sex be included in that category?


So what’s the scientific evidence supporting this seemingly promising discovery? There was a study conducted of nearly 300 women who classified their depression symptoms based on an inventory scale. Results clearly illustrated that women who engaged in unprotected sex were significantly happier than those who had protected sex/or no sex at all. However, depression levels of condom-users and abstainers were almost identical, indicating that the act of sex itself wasn’t the depending variable causing the drastic depression. Could semen be the mood-altering variable?


So what are the main ingredients in semen that may be responsible for boosting womens mood? Semen’s core ingredients other than sperm of course are water, estrone, cortisol, prolactin, oxytocin, serotonin, and selatonin, which chemically react with the vaginal environment, and further get absorbed to undergo a mood-boosting reaction. Female vaginal tissue is extremely absorptive. Estrone (like estrogen) has been associated with promoting happiness levels while oxytocin has been linked with enhanced social bonding. A woman releases oxytocin when she breastfeeds or orgasms. Serotonin is the feel-good neurotransmitter that’s known for promoting feelings of contentment and comfort. Studies also suggest that women who had unprotected sex with their partner and then broke up with them experienced a much more difficult break-up than those who engaged in protected sex. This is further evidence that semen has a social bonding power.


Furthermore, there is also evidence that semen contains ingredients that make women come back for more, other than its social bonding characteristics! Is there a medical term for semen withdrawal? Nope, but studies have concluded that women who had unprotected sex and later broke up with their partner, had sex with a new partner within a couple of weeks (regardless of their “rough” break-up). This can contrast to those women who engaged in protected sex, who had sex with a new partner within a couple of months. This further confirms that unprotected insemination, sex, may be the mood-boosting solution here.

What about oral sex? Unfortunately there hasn’t been a formal study conducted yet that examined whether or not oral sex performed by women to men, is applicable to this finding. However, researchers are unsure of whether the chemical reaction between semen and the human stomach/digestive tract could alter its mood-enhancing abilities.


Couldn’t there have been other factors influencing the supposed mood-enhancing effects of semen? Couldn’t it have everything to do with the psychological disposition of the female recipient? Maybe the woman feels as if having his semen inside of her signifies that her male partner is a part of her. What about the psychological disposition of the male contributor? If you are in a relationship with a man that is caring and thoughtful, it must be different than being with someone who has sex and figures it’s okay to leave right after. Could it possibly be that women who engage in unprotected sex happen to be happier or maybe they are more care-free individuals?


There are many factors that need to be taken into account other than the beneficial ingredients found in semen; it’s the people who were studied that need to be further analyzed. Although semen seems like a pretty interesting alternative to your daily dose of anti-depression medication, don’t take it to heart.

Hi Master Gil ! Did you get some rays this week??

I didn't get to the beach yet due to flu but did manage time in the backyard today . Very warm, unseasonal weather the last 2 days. Cold comin' back 2moro, we're told.

Frisky Trisky we didn't make it to the nude beach but we did enjoy a walk along the shore line of botany bay, sipping coffee & having a meal near by while enjoying the great weather, saldy i had planned on going out for a fun day of motorsport on Sunday but it seems like you say cooler weather & showers are in order from mother nature with several more days of rain next week too so it looks like the warmest winter period has ended at about 10 days of great temps.

Poor Starry, It's been very pleasent of lat but as I posted above it's comming to an end but spring isn't that far away so looking forward to that.

Is there a design plan for the new cast yet?

I hope the time passes quickly & your recovery is what you want it to be.

Well, this gal ain't so daring as to try a nudist beach but it would sure increase the vitamin D intake! Weather was spectacular Thurs and Fri here but I came down with flu and just sat out back and dozed. Still was nice. Pretty shitty here now. Cooler, blustery and I'm looking forward to a sunny spring (sooooo close!) So not so frisky for this Trisky, today. But building up steam for next month!!

Poster has read from first page of posts and SHE has taken umbrage. Not a frequent poster so was obviously moved to reply.
As for being offended regarding lack of reply to medical paper....
the information has taken a little time to (ahem) ...digest.....
From observation of v. active females of aquaintance the observations within the paper do not translate to all individuals. lol. V. v. active and still depressed comes to mind in one instance....will have to investigate own reactions, perhaps?

Personaly, paying for sex is something I don't think I could do. In my opinion sex is something two people do who love each other

However I know a lot of people see it diffently. In QLD it is illegal for aI carer to take a disabled person to a legal sex worker, even though their not involved.

Great post Gil on the semen depression link. As the later comments note there's a lot of alternative explanations. BUT, as we all know, there are plenty of mood related benefits associated with sexuality
