Aussies! Check in here!

Afternoon all,

Well the cricket is in the balance depending on the weather. Must be pome rain, comes from the west. Saw that so called ball of the century, early call though. More talk about Smith being second to Bradman, but he is still young and may go past The Don, not on average of course.

Completed all my Christmas shopping by the first week of the month even got the car serviced earlier than normal and you would think that would make for more time, but it has gone really quickly. Christmas next week. Where has the time gone?

Finished all my medical stuff last week so giving myself some easy time from now till the end of the year. Surprised a bit by the price of booze, however people still have money to buy it. Went to Dan Murphy's last week to buy some international beers for my brother and was surprised that the car park was full. They even needed some staff to manage the car park. This was at 11:30 am on a weekday! Doesn't anyone work anymore?

Warm Summer temps here in Melbourne town up in the low to mid 30's then hopefully a cool change with rain this time. Last one was rather pathetic.

Thankfully the tradies have in most part fucked off from the street so the noise has reduced. Noticed a lot more vacant lots in the surrounding streets so people have money to build houses. House prices aren't going down any time soon.

Christmas parties will be happening this week, so no doubt some people will be changing jobs in the new year. Hope your week is festive without memory loss.

Seasons Greetings.... and all that stuff..... :)

The first 2 weeks of December have been a whirlwind of activity, mostly medical. Needed to get a whole bunch of appointments out of the way before everyone disappears on holiday for a month.

Apart from all that, everything is ready for the family Xmas, and also for my youngest's 21st birthday a week after New Year! Still trying to process the fact that my baby will be 21!!!

Got one pressy early...... Mum gave me a google home mini. I am having so much fun! It is just like having a slave, only not! Have to admit, sometimes she says stuff that makes me feel sorry for her..... and sometimes the answers she gives me crack me up :D
Loving that when I walk out to my kitchen in the morning and greet her, she tells me the weather, the news headlines, and my daily schedule....... all before I've even had my first sip of char! Very handy :) Links to my phone too, so any scheduled task I tell her goes straight to my calendar, with a reminder.
Can't wait to see what other functions she gets as google updates!

It has been hot as Hades down here in Tassie..... regularly up near 30 deg C.
Hopefully it cools down just a little for Chrissy.

Haven't seen webbo on here for a very long time :(
Lots of the oldies have left..... Aaaahhh well, life goes on, that sort of thing.....

I hope everyone has a marvelous time for both Christmas and the New Year, and that 2018 brings bigger and better everything for each of you.
Remember - drive safely, there are idiots out there

Careful WQ if you start having feelings for slaves they might won't their freedom, just be aware that it (she) is monitoring everything you say, ....Skynet isn't far away. :D

Have a safe Christmas:kiss:

Afternoon all,

For the first time in many many years I'm relaxing on Christmas Day at home. The family lunch is on tomorrow so I have the entire day to myself and I've been watching sport, namely the NFL. Dallas is out of the playoffs, they played like crap against Seattle.

I made my famous or infamous cocktail this year and gave most of it to my nephew yesterday since the lunch is at his place this year. It's one of those drinks that sneaks up on you so quite easy to have too much. Definitely not a drink to have if you going to be driving. Also made a trip for the annual sweets run. A little bit of indulgence.

Nice and cool in Melbourne town the last couple of days but warming up again tomorrow and of course that would happen when I'll be driving all day. The city continues to be in chaos with all the road works on the main roads thru the city. Pain in the butt if you have to cross the city on a regular basis.

Reckon this will be the last of the family Christmas lunches as the younger generation keeps doing their own thing. Now they will need to make the effort to visit so that should be an interesting exercise to observe.

May the Christmas Pussy spread joy to all and peace on earth.... during lunch at least.

Hmmm I hope your not a fan of the Cowgirls, was so happy to see them knocked out as I am a Skins fan. Way too many injuries this year we now have 21 on Injured Reserve and another 13 or something on the standard injury report. At least we beat Denver and I hope we keep Cousins but I doubt it :(

Tell me more about this mysterious pussy at lunch time?

Had a great day today and hope others did too. All about family and went to the Ex's for lunch with the kids and mother in law lol. It's all good we get along fine, and the kids love that we can.

What's worse than watching Warner and Smith play for a draw in a dead rubber? Rained out sessions at the G.

At least The Ashes are coming back. I will admit to being pleased to see Cook make some runs at last, too late to save face though.

How were everyone's holiday festivities?

For me I spent Christmas Eve over my Uncles, roasting a pig on his homemade spit, slowly roasted under a charcoal fire for 4-5 hours.

Plans for New Years? None for me yet, but I'm getting hammered no matter the setting or company.

Wish there was a larger sense of Aussie community here on Lit, but either way this is a homely ongoing thread.

Cook is a great player, and I highly respect him.

What's worse than rained out sessions at the G (they happen frequently) is a pitch that's got nothing. A Test pitch should equally favour the bowlers and batsman...the current one gives the bowlers nothing, there's no life in it.

The MGC curator is moving to the Gabba, hopefully the next one can prepare pitches that encourage wickets and runs.

The curse of the drop-in pitch. Gone are the perminant pitch squares from all the major cricket grounds as the thirst for the $ generated by football in the winter demands.

Afternoon, aussies :)

Christmas was extra lovely - at my eldest son's house about an hour drive from here. This was his first time hosting everyone, and I think he underestimated just how much mess (and work!) is involved!
I spent a good portion of the day cleaning up, to give him and his gf a hand.... plus, I simply cannot abide untidiness! My ocd wasn't letting me sit down and just 'be'

Plans for NY eve? Mine are really simple..... an afternoon spent at home without having to des for anyone! Usually, I end up being called out at ungodly hours to pick up inebriated children, partners and friends. This year that is NOT going to happen!
Luckily, I have a very high overpass a few doors down from my house, so I can wander up there just before midnight - with my drink! - and watch all the fireworks before stumbling home and falling into bed. :D

My creative side got the better of me again  I have decided I need a washing board (who remembers those?) I am too much of a miser to spend the $100+ that they are going for second-hand, so I sat down and figured out how to build one myself. Total cost of materials - $13-50.
Now I just need to be patient and wait 3 days for the adhesive to cure!
(My youngest is absolutely convinced I am 'compensating' because I have done quite a few DIY projects in the past few months. ;))

Not really following the cricket - but I did see an article in my local paper about the BBL in Launy. Apparently the organisers have been unable to secure eftpos facilities and are asking everyone to make sure they have enough cash!
Oopsies.... someone may lose their job over this clusterfumble!

Keep your fingers crossed for me..... I need a nice lotto win tonight!

Anyone online to share some stories or have some fun?

Oopsies....
By the time you posted this, I was half-cut and dancing around my living room to good old 70's aussie rock :D
Way too far gone to make any sense typing!
Hope your 2018 is a good one :rose:

Nope not a Dallas fan did like Aikman playing though. I'm a Bronco's and Green Bay fan mainly cause I like the QB's on both teams at least when Elway and Manning were still playing.

I meant peace on earth at least at lunch time, can't fight anyone if you're feeding your face. I mean they even stopped WW I to have Christmas, then went back to killing each other the next day.

The Aussies aren't usually good at playing for a draw, but yes a dead pitch doesn't make for good cricket. They need to make changes to those drop in pitches. They keep being one paced

Thankfully I had video games to ensure I wasn't bored. Kept checking in every half hour.

A Happy New Year to all,

The year is still a virgin so hopefully nothing has gone wrong for you yet.

Found a new drink this Christmas when lunching at my nephew's place. Jim Beam citrus Highball. Don't normally go for these pre-made mixed drinks as they usually don't put enough booze in them. But it was rather refreshing so decided to get some for New Year's.

After the busy time during Christmas it was nice to sit back and have a few drinks and not having to drive anywhere. Was thinking of going down to the bay to see the fireworks over the city, but I'd already had a few so just watched it on TV. Thought the fireworks in Sydney wasn't as good as last year. The ones in Melbourne just looked bigger and better, may be it was the booze :D

Hope you have a good week if you're not back to work that is.

Happy new year everybody.

One problem with your theory - Adelaide Oval has drop-in pitches as well, and it has been playing well.

Greetings, Aussies! Long time, no Lit!

It's been so long that I had to guess my password and I'm struggling to remember what all these buttons do.

I reckon this might be my 5000th post. It took a while. :)

Welcome back I did the same thing a few months back. Not quite like the old days where we filled multiple pages a night, but we can work on it :)

Hello to all the women and men from down under .

I hope you all are enjoying the summer holiday period.

Where did everyone get away too?
I’m in Hobart enjoying all the fine food and wine the island has to offer plus the great roads to drive.

Woohoooooo!!! I remembered how to multiquote!

I got distracted by Fetlife for a long time, but that's gone to the dogs. Lit has always been more civilised.

There are still familiar names around. Greetings, WQ & Mr Elf. I hope life is treating you both well.

I just got back from 10 days camping at Betty's Beach, east of Albany. It was heavenly!

Welcome.... Not sure where they went but they did and people didn't fill in. Nice to have some new Ppl in here.

Hmmm sounds great, wrong time of the year for a fire which I love when camping. Any fishing involved or what did you do there?
