Aussies! Check in here!

Anyone going to the Aus Open this week?

 Katie

That would be a negative on my side. So damn hot, much easier watching it on TV with the air con and cold drink. Not really a tennis fan but like the major players in action. Hope Federer can do it one more time, he is looking good so far.

Morning all,

Still humid in Melbourne town and sleeping is a challenge once again. We did get a cool change of sorts after our 42 but it has been very week and thus far no real sign of rain to cool the place down. If anything today is going to be warner than yesterday. Getting up to the high 30's again by the end of the week, oh joy

Well looks like the Aussies are having post Ashes apathy. Then again the pomes are playing well. The fresh players have more intent.

Some mad bastard was mowing their lawn late afternoon on the 42 degree day. The mowing lasted less than 5 minutes. Think he finally worked out that the cool change wasn't so cool.

We've already had a couple of days above 40 this Summer so kinda normal, the long run in the 30's not so much and the humidity is just making sleeping difficult which is why I've been up so early the last couple of days. Days for sleeping naked on top of the bed with the fan going all night.

Saw that along the south west coast it was 30 when we were having 42. Should have stayed down there for the Summer.

Hope the heat in your area isn't too bad this week and hopefully the bushfires are kept to a minimum for the rest of the Summer.

Perth was beautiful this weekend. I'm lying on the trampoline in the front yard and it's still beautiful.

I spent the weekend with friends. The highlight was shredding a back tyre on my station wagon, out back of Kwinana, whilst dressed like this and wearing a pair of sandals. Hardly practical attire for changing a tyre. Luckily, my friends rescued me. :p

Very clever placed bit of sunlight, I commend you on your photo. Not sure many could have done that TBH.

Both? They really wanted me to visit their brand new "intentional community". That's the new euphemism for a hippie commune.

Totally random. I could barely see the phone screen for the glare. :D

Hi aussies :)

I am.super, uber-excited to be going camping with the WHOLE fam fo the Oz day long weekend!
Going to one of the gems of the country - Bay of Fires in northern Tas (google it!)

From Friday, Tasmania will be the hottest part of Australia for 3 days  How wierd is THAT?!?
Best temps for swimming, diving and fishing.... all of which I will be doing for the weekend

Stay safe.... and remember, there are idiots out there on our roads

Afternoon all,

Well it's that time of year to celebrate us and have another debate about the whole Australia Day issue. Seems rather simple thing to resolve, get to being a republic and make that Australia Day. No doubt the change of govt at the next election will sort that one out.

I won't go on about the heat cause it's everywhere even Tassie is going to be hotter than Melbourne over the next two days. We did get a brief thunderstorm in Melbourne town last night. Heard lots of rumbling but didn't see any lightning, not much by way of rain either. The pattern this Summer continues to be weak cool changes and a little rain. Another month of this crap.

Whilst the weather was cool for a few days I did manage to get a small painting task done so happy with that. Purchased a couple of new Summer shirts since the sales are still on.

When at Woollies yesterday saw more Easter eggs on the shelves. WTF. I saw the hot cross buns last week but on principal refused to buy them.

Can the Aussies finally get a win against the England one day team? Probably not, but I'm sure a few beers can help with the pain. Hope Federer gets to the final of the /\O, that funny symbol again. May be the ATP might have a rethink after so many high ranking players are getting injured. Fans must be fuming especially if they have spent up big just to see their favourite player in action.

Hope you find a cool spot this weekend. Was considering buying a holiday home in the South Pole for the Summer then discovered the neighbours are fucking noisier than tradies.

Hi aussies!

Happy Australia Day from one of the best campsites in Southern Oz - Binalong Bay in the Bay of Fires, North East Tasmania :)
My whole family is here, and we are staying till Sunday.

I hope everyone else is having an awesome day/has had an awesome day!

Happy Australia Day one and all, even the less than 3% of the population all long lost descendants of the indigenous population who can't get over things that happened some 230 years ago.

I suggest you get over it and move along, join in the 97% of Aussies having a great day of barbies, drinks and sport.

As for our Heritage Flag, leave the gorgeous thing alone, 100's of thousands have died for it so ALL of US can enjoy the unmatched freedom and Beauty this country offers .

Fiery

Happy Australia Day (well, for yesterday).

I'm not a fan of linking it with the first fleet landing, but the rally in the city yesterday did their cause no favours.

I'd leave our flag alone, but remove the Union Jack when we finally become a republic (both the National flag and the Victorian one... though I like the crown on the Vic flag).

With the timing of Aus Day though, I'd move it to Jan 2nd, so we can have a two day booze up to celebrate the new year and the making of Australia (it wasn't Australia before Federation).

* Sneaks in * uh merry xmas, happy new year, and happy aussie day peeps.
Hehe nearly Easter and im already eyeing the chocolate bunny’s. But more importantly 52 days until the afl season starts. Yayaya

Morning all,

So nice to have some cool days after the heatwave on the long weekend. Thought that would never end, even had to turn the air con on during the day at one point just to try and cool the house down. Another month to go , speaking of which it's the end of the first month of the year and what have we achieved? Well not a lot.

So much for Australia Day bringing people together, well I guess if we don't think about the past it never happened right? But then someone once said.."if you don't know where you've come from, how do you know where you're going?" Then again if you forget the mistakes of the past you're bound to repeat them.

Given our multiculturalism, not sure how many Aussies still identify with the Union Jack and given the tight rules around who can get into parliament the gene pool of who can represent the people remains quite small.

Having Australia Day on 2 Jan as suggested by green337 makes sense, after all who doesn't like a longer long weekend. Replacing the Union Jack with a symbol of the unique country we have also makes sense. As for people who died for the flag well they should get over it just as someone else posted that the indigenous people should get over the slaughter of their ancestors, the past is the past right??

Going to a farewell lunch on Friday for a former work colleague who has finally seen the light to have a life after work. Thankfully it will be nice cool day.

Hope the rest of your week goes well.

Afternoon all,

Just watched the Super Bowl and it was a very good game. Philly deserved the win as they played for all four quarters. The game was better than the half time entertainment.

Did a bit more on the painting tasks in the last few days so happy that I've made progress, but it's warming up again tomorrow.

The farewell lunch for my ex-workmate went ok and not an African gang in sight. Apparently we here in Melbourne are scared to go out to eat for fear of African gangs according to Dutton and Malcolm. The fact that we have a Labour govt here in Vic obviously has nothing to do with the comments. Surely the Fed govt wouldn't try to stir up racial tensions in a non-Liberal govt state. In these times of fake news, it seems our pollies have caught the American bug.

The dual citizen thing just keep going. A new year and both sides just picked up where they left off last year. They really need an adult to supervise them.

Will see if the companies that control the power grid will do what's best for the customer or for themselves and cut the power again in the upcoming hot spell. We are paying more for electricity these days and the govt continues to allow private industry to put profits ahead of people. SA seems to have the right idea about giving away solar power panels.

If anyone is coming to Melbourne on the weekend, the St Kilda festival is on, so if you like crowds that would be the place to be.

Hope your week goes well.

Yeah I think one of the best I have seen in years. Now I hate both teams with a passion, Eagles cause they are in the same division as my Skins, and Patriots cause they need to give someone else a go.

The game though was great and Kudos to the Eagles, and the gutsy call by Pedersen on 4th and 1 with the trick play just WOW!!!!!

Hehe scummie :)
It was awesome. I’m very anti Brady so I was happy with an Eagles win

Hello all

Another aussie here, but this one is Irish born been out this way for 30 years,
how is everyone doing, I'm living in Melbourne and having a ball

I hear ya.... Just can't wait for them to stop winning... That play though was amazing.

The two TD's that were reviewed I think was lucky for Eagles but I hear there will be many changes to the catch rule next season, and tbh not soon enough.

Afternoon all,

So Barnaby had an affair whilst talking about the sanctity of marriage...so double standard or not? Then again I don't think anyone wants to picture Barnaby having sex...poke my eyes out now!! "Marriage is between a man and a woman"... "and his mistress."

COAG is on today so that should be an interesting discussion given the anti-state govt stance regarding SA and VIC.

So it's hot just about everywhere today with the heat to go north which is quite unusual, hopefully that means cooler temps for us in Melbourne town. Could do with some cooler days. Thankfully we didn't get a repeat of that 30 overnight temp as with the previous heat wave. Even the cooler days this Summer haven't been that cool with all the humidity. Just very tired of sweating doing basic tasks around the house. The evap cooler is getting a good run.

So who is looking forward to the Winter Olympics...yep not really. And it's roughly in our time zone as well, ok we're two hours ahead. At least we don't have to watch it into the early hours of the morning.

Hope the heat eases off where you are unless you're in Qld in which case gets lots of ice.
