Anyone for a nightcap?

You do not want to see what the inside looks like, then. The compact edition has four micro-reproduced pages on each page. It comes with its own magnifying glass. :D

The reason that it's hard to read is that the image is a cropped section of a small jpg so there's just not enough information present in the image to sharpen the lettering any further.

I knew that it just wasn't a good image. I just wanted to be a smart ass is all. :D

Ok, so that's really really cool that it comes with it's own magnifying glass. I actually like miniatures.

Is it bad that even though it's too blurry to make out, I knew it was the compact OED?

Clearly, you have much younger eyes than I do. ;)

Or maybe I need a new monitor. Yeah, that's it, my PC is the real culprit here. :D

Nope - just worked in a used bookshop once upon a time that got a copy. It really does come with its own magnifying glass [and weighs a ton].

;)

The mostly well behaved children are back with their father.

The other mostly [not] well behaved children are in the other part of the house being mostly [not] well behaved.

The roommate is on her way out to do all sorts of wickedly Toppy things to one of her boy toys.

I am eating [a surprisingly healthy] blueberry crumble topped with vanilla ice cream, and sipping wine. Because, well... just because.

*thunk*

Ah...I am sipping a glass myself. No ill-behaved children in sight right now. But no blueberry crumble either. :(

Enjoy your moment, CM. :rose:

It has spinach in it, but you can't taste the spinach at all.

I got this very cool cookbook from the library last week - all the recipes sneak extra servings of vegetable puree into breakfasts, dinners, snacks, desserts. So I tried it out on the kids this weekend (who actually like vegetables, but more is better, IMO).

They had cauliflower in both peanut butter & banana muffins and scrambled eggs this morning, chick peas in chocolate chip cookies last night, spinach in the blueberry bars this afternoon, and sweet potatoes, carrots and navy beans in the Italian wedding soup this evening - all on top of their usual servings of salads/raw veggies/fresh fruit - and they liked all of it.

I am a geekishly happy mom. :)

Sorry.

I must say this.

I miss Spencer.

I don't think I do well with change.

Spence will be back shortly. He's just taking a break while I allow myself to be consulted on matters of spelling and etymology. ;)

*Lightbulb*

LB generally refrains from inserting her opinion on these matters.

Only because she knows she can be quite mean, otherwise.

:D

What cookbook is it? I've been doing a lot of that lately but would like more inspiration. I put finely chopped broccoli and spinich in my spaghetti sauce I made last week. It was some of the best spaghetti sauce I've made.

Also, since the wine aficionados hang out here, I have a question. I've been been wanting to try more wines lately. How do you go about selecting a wine? Do you use reviews from other websites, your general knowledge base (which I obviously don't have since I'm asking about it), advice of the person in the store selling it, or some other method?

I found a wine store that offers tastings of a few different wines every weekend. I go, sip a bit from each of the choices, and often pick one of them. Now I'm familiar with several labels that I like and that are well represented at this store.

That's a really great way to try some different wines. It's been mostly a hit and miss thing with stuff I've tried lately. I've been buying a different kind each time I go because I have a tendency to find one thing and just stick with it. Life's too short to hold onto what you already know though. So I figured I would start trying smaller things like different wines before I move onto the bigger things.

Deceptively Delicious

I've been skimming "hidden veggie" cookbooks for a while, but this one's well done... geared towards kids (as most are), but well done.

Thank you for that. I've added it to my wish list for when I get a little bit extra money. I just love the idea of hiding things in dishes that you wouldn't expect. The right thing add just another subtle layer to the flavor of the dish.

One of my favorite chocolate cake recipes includes about a pound of shredded zucchini for this very purpose. :D

That sounds like it would be wonderful. I especially like hiding ingredients in foods that people say they don't like. I'm always doing that to my sister-in-law. Of course, it if is something that would make them sick I don't put it in, but if it's something they just don't like, well, it will go into something at some point.

Exactly. The daughter, a big fan of chocolate, despised zucchini. :D

That book grates on me just a litttle. I don't mind making recipes healthier with blended up veggies - that idea is awesome. But I'm not going to routinely hide veggies to satisfy a picky eater. He can suck it up. Or chew, as the case may be.

Oh no - mine suck [chew] it up, too. ;) I think of it as supplemental vegetables.
