Anyone for a nightcap?

.......with vodka on the rocks ;)

Hang in there chickie! :rose:

There's a couple of reasons why I relented on the meds. First, since it's a statin drug, it will help stave off Alzheimer's, which seems to run in my family.

I come from a huge family with no real disease trend. My Powerball odds are even with my cause of death. So, I try to be good, but I am going to live as well and as happily as I can. Odds are, I will be hit by a bus as easily as something else claims me.

That said...I am either keeping the weight off or taking the meds. A stroke is not high on my list of fun things.

Lets make a New Year's Res. Maybe.
We can start a new thread. "Anyone for water" or something like that.

OK, that sounds pretty lame....

But every time wine creeps into my regular diet I find an extra four or five pounds. And when I keep those pounds off, my blood pressure is happy. So, I have this little circle going. Keeping the bp down should be my lofty goal, I think....

(Repeats to herself: "Vitamin water is good...")

I need to read more. Or at all. I have stopped reading books! It's so terrible. The Omnivore's Dillema is still sitting on my nightstand. Maybe I should move it out of the bedroom. I think it's clear that when I enter the bedroom there's only one thing on my mind (sleep, of course, pervs!).

I just thought I would pop in and say hey.

I am on vacation from work now until after New Years so am indulging in a little wine. No Bud Lite. I promise I've sworn off of the stuff.

Christmas shopping is done except for a few stocking stuffer drug-store type items. Youngest child and I will be baking cookies tomorrow and we will have our main Christmas dinner tomorrow night. I am really looking forward to having all of my children home for the next few days.

I hope everyone is enjoying their respective holidays and has the opportunity to sit back and relax or chill for a little bit...

Cheers!

p.s. to ITW...did you ever finish the book? RR was right, it is a really good read.

No, but I picked it up again. Should be finished soon.

Merry Christmas, LB. Have a wonderful vacation.

No germane contributions here, I'm afraid. Just finished my first wine-less and/or scotch-less dinner since the start of the Xmas holidays. It's time to go on LB's never-on-a-school-night program.

Never-on-a-school-night starts back again tomorrow. Right now I am mourning the last night of vacationing. Nursing wine...

And celebrating my surprising win in SirWinston's football pool. Go figure...

First -

Fall Creek's Special Reserve Caché (Christmas gift)

Homemade French onion soup w/ day old baguette & melted swiss topper. (In a real china bowl w/ real silver spoon. Because I'm high maintenance when I'm sick... even if it's me doing the maintaining.)

Middle -

Ginormously long soak in a hot tub w/ eucalyptus/menthol/tea tree soaky stuff.

End -

Nyquil, book, bed.

High maintenance is good...even if it must be self-indulged/induced at times. Especially when you're sick.

Feel better CM!

Funny from the tub -

So I'm soaking in this menthol/eucalyptus bubbly stuff and breathing easier, and my mind goes "Huh... wonder if I have any Vick's Vapor Rub in the house..." and instead of mentally ticking through the contents of the medicine cabinet, I mentally tick through the contents of the [long ago abandoned] "toy chest".

LMAO! And I thought I was one of the only ones who had that sexy smelling stuff in the toy chest :D

Oh, ladies...I cannot so go there. Ever. But then, my thing is probably a little different. However, all I can think of is rubbing Vicks under my nose (or my kids noses) when I (or they) can't breathe and how much it hurts.

I guess I like different stuff. Stuff that doesn't involve Vicks.

On a separate note, I am taking a break at the moment from watching Goldfinger. I must say I have the hots for Sean Connery in that movie. Or any Bond movie he was in, really.

One hot tamale.

Sean Connery really sets the sexy standard for men, doesn't he? Swoon, major swoon. Although I do heart Daniel Craig. Netz sees him as a maso taking those beatings to the balls - I see it as a sign of how tough he is. Wait, maybe those are compatible thoughts, lol.

Anyhooo. No Vicks for me. Mister Man has never suggested it, and I've never really considered it. I have sensitive girly bits and really don't like to mess with the environment down there, know what I'm saying?

I can't get into Daniel Craig at all. He just doesn't do anything for me.

And I thought your bits were platinum. ;)

Oh wow. I think he is so sexy.

Yes, platinum (!) which is a very delicate metal. Ok, not really, but work with me!

Sorry...I just couldn't resist. (re: platinum):D

And Daniel Craig isn't hideous or anything. But he is most definitely not Sean Connery. Or even Pierce Brosnan, for that matter. Then again, Connery is on a pedestal of his own. I even dreamt about him last night. I'm pretty sure 007 and I could have got on well...he seems to have a flexible attitude. Too bad I'm too young for him. Sigh... ;)

Thinking about food, which leads one to thinking about women, and soon enough...

One finds this sort of thing wandering around the Interwebz:

Banned Burger King Kommercial

Pay attention....the punchline (pun intended) is subtle. But it's golden! :D

weirdo.

Have any of you lushes seen Milk or Slumdog Millionaire?

I haven't seen a movie in the theaters in a couple of years now, for an odd reason which I won't go into. Anyway, to break my odd no (first run) movies streak, I will probably see Milk. I am dying to see it. I am only slightly obsessed with the story, having read tons about it and seen some PBS documentaries on the whole thing. Also, seeing Sean Penn in the commercials was eery. He totally nailed it. Anyway, have you? Is it good?

I've heard great things about Slumdog Millionaire.

Not yet, terrible, isn't it?

I want to see Milk and I want to see Frost/Nixon, both the film and the 12 hours of tapes they just put out.

On the topic of things I'm obsessed with - Nixon! I guess that's a who, not a thing. I am obsessed with Watergate. So the movie looks like good gossipy fun, but I have heard it's inaccurate, and in a misleading sort of way (not like, Elizabeth where we all knew liberties had been taken). So that gave me pause, but I keep seeing the commercials and I'm starting to weaken. Seeing the tapes would be AWESOME though. I didn't hear they'd been released! Are they on Netflix? Ha - if they are the backlog must be nuts.

No, Milk's not good - it's outstanding, largely because Penn is phenomenal in that role. Go see it, woman! What could possibly be holding you back?

Having read a plot summary for Slumdog, I had to be coerced into viewing that film. But I was pleasantly surprised, and definitely recommend it.

Actually, if you had to pick one of those to see in a theater, I'd say choose Slumdog. Penn's performance will translate to the small screen without much lost, but some of the Mumbai vistas are just incredible.

Frost/Nixon is next on my list too.

12 hours? Really? Who's "they"?

I think it's 12 hours - it's an absurd amount of tape of the actual Frost/Nixon interviews and it's out on DVD. THEY being those who decide what goes on DVD.
