I haven't seen a movie in the theaters in a couple of years now, for an odd reason which I won't go into. Anyway, to break my odd no (first run) movies streak, I will probably see Milk. I am dying to see it. I am only slightly obsessed with the story, having read tons about it and seen some PBS documentaries on the whole thing. Also, seeing Sean Penn in the commercials was eery. He totally nailed it. Anyway, have you? Is it good?

I've heard great things about Slumdog Millionaire.



On the topic of things I'm obsessed with - Nixon! I guess that's a who, not a thing. I am obsessed with Watergate. So the movie looks like good gossipy fun, but I have heard it's inaccurate, and in a misleading sort of way (not like, Elizabeth where we all knew liberties had been taken). So that gave me pause, but I keep seeing the commercials and I'm starting to weaken. Seeing the tapes would be AWESOME though. I didn't hear they'd been released! Are they on Netflix? Ha - if they are the backlog must be nuts.

I share the Nixon obsession, I find him endlessly interesting, maybe it's because there's something so interesting about such deeply flawed leadership.

Anyhow, uh, you clearly missed David Frost plugging the tapes on Daily Show. Yep they're out, and yeah, they're probably in a million queues.

I'm looking, and unfortunately can't find anything nearly that long.

Amazon's got this, but it's apparently 88 minutes "culled from the over 28 hours of interview footage."

Having read a plot summary for Slumdog, I had to be coerced into viewing that film. But I was pleasantly surprised, and definitely recommend it.

Actually, if you had to pick one of those to see in a theater, I'd say choose Slumdog. Penn's performance will translate to the small screen without much lost, but some of the Mumbai vistas are just incredible.

Did you watch the -- hmm, I think it was a program called the American Experience or something - a PBS documentary style "show" (not regular) - anyway, there is a dvd that is called Watergate: 20 Years Later or something. I own it! You can probably get it off Netflix. I'll send it to you if you want though.

And yes. I miss Daily Show now. I need to get Mister Man to put it on his dvr list. Argh. Stephen Colbert too! Can you believe it? I'm slippin.'
 
I have Milk on my PC to watch. I just have to get myself in the zone to watch a movie on my PC. :cool:

I've seen parts of the Frost/Nixon interviews. I think I have less interest because I had to write about it in Current Events in school. It was my local going-on at the time. He resigned on my birthday. Actually, it was the day before in the US but I was out of the us and a day later at the time. It was a rather memorable birthday.

However, I'd rather spend my time watching things that were less an intimate part of my life. Relative terms, of course.

Take a look at a replica of the Declaration of Independence or another document from that time. It was common to write a lower case "s" in a way that closely resembled our modern lower-case "f."
