Anyone for a nightcap?

Well, sit down and I'll pour you a tall one. I'll get Chuck to fetch us some ice and we can swap herring stories.

I actually read: "I'll get Chuck to fetch us some ice cream..."

Which was pretty hilarious, if you ask me....

Hah! I didn't even look at the top of the photo...just the crowd...

I'm still homesick though...for DC, not St Louis.
Nothing wrong with St Louis, though. And I've never seen cherry blossoms in St Louis either, so you can shake of that horticultural ignorance JM. Although I suppose there could be some, they couldn't possibly be as pretty as the ones in DC.

And boy did this thread go off topic... ;)

The OP returned to that other thread, so I'm responding here.

Cherry blossoms can be postcard perfect in DC, it's true! The crowds can be off-putting, though, so I'd say an early morning stroll or jog around the Tidal Basin gives the best view.

Nice pic, by the way. Did you take it?

This reminds me of the speech my mother delivered when I was 12 or 13 or so...and desperate to to begin shaving my legs. She told me, pretty simply, that I would regret it, since once you start shaving, you have to keep doing it.

And of course, she was right. Grrr....

So being 21 is pretty nice. But don't rush it. Enjoy where you are right this very minute. Because you won't ever be here again.

And taxes are a bitch, let me tell you...

I'm doing my best to enjoy where I am this very minute, but where I am this very minute would be much easier to tolerate with gin.

Good idea...you just knew you'd find me here, didn't you? ;)
Although I promise I am drinking water right now...

No, I didn't take that picture, but I have some really spectacular pictures that were taken when I lived there. My scanner isn't working at the moment, otherwise I would have linked to one of those.

Not sure, but I think the basic idea is to make new floors look old.

Speaking of nostalgic yearnings, apparently some in Texas are hankering to secede once again! This makes me lol.

And speaking of lol'ing, ITW, check this out. (When Netzach comes back, she should check that out too. I swear, her crush Gergen practically blushes at the end.)

That was one major teacup full of I can't believe they just aired that.

It is kind of amusing watching The Right contort in its death throes though. The one thing about my crush is that you'll always find him where the tides of power actually turn.

I know! I can't believe it aired either - but damn, AC does perfect deadpan.

All of the talk about teabagging on the news has been cracking me up. I mean... "teabag the whitehouse"? Common. How am I supposed to take something like that seriously?

Also, I heard that at the big DC teabagging rally yesterday the plan was to dump a million teabags on the ground in a park or something, but they ended up not having the correct permit and so they couldn't do it. Curses! Foiled again!

I adore AC!!!

Around here, tons of conservatives are bitterly going to tea parties. What dumb asses. I'm so tired of being around people like this and having to be all nice and in the closet.

*grr*

It shows how utterly unthefuckintouch these people are completely.

news flash: people are more worried about their lack of healthcare, housing, and job prospects than they are about someone else's taxes. It's finally happened. People are looking at the guys walking away from AIG on their feet and going "maybe penalized for fake success isn't a bad idea finally."

we are in an economic 9/11 that's taken out the average joe blow to the point where we are reminded of the social safety net.

A safety net I'll remind smug democrats was dismantled largely by Clinton.

As a Canuck, I am constantly blown away that a country as rich and powerful, (well, maybe not so much now as before), as the US has no universal health care system.

Recently, I met a woman who just became the head ecologist for Montana. A vital job, IMO. Prior to that, she'd been doing important environmental work for a company with no medical benefits. She said she knew she had a large tumour but couldn't afford to get it removed, so she was happy to get the state job for that reason. Her current plan covered 80%, so she still had to pay over $3000 for the surgery. Luckily, the tumour was benign.

As she was relating this to me, I thought of one of my family members who has had breast cancer twice and has received top notch treatment both times, including a full breast rebuild after the mastectomy - free of charge. (Yes, we have high taxes).

So WTF? Why are Americans holding big teabag rallies when you should all be storming the gates of the White House and demanding proper health care? Am I missing something?

No, but many American's are.

You know, Yanks, I am really quite mentally challenged this week it seems.

Harlequin ice cream?

I don't get it.

I'm not surprised that you were confused. Harlequin is a regional New England term for "Neapolitan," which was a featured flavor in Keroin's story "Vice Cream" and I had made the translation to New England-speak automatically without realizing it.

An interesting comment I once heard was that America is not a first world nation becasue we can't even take care of our people.

Hmm...You can take the boy out of New England, but you can't
take New England out of the boy...

Thank you.

Clearly, I am not a New Englander.

On another note, I am totally despondent over the lack of laughs over my funny about Chuck and Ice Cream.

Really, everyone...this is not supposed to be a serious thread.

Right?

~LB

(Ok, yeah...sometimes I get serious...but c'mon! I'm seeing a whole page of serious. And everyone ignored my funny. )

Sorry, LB.

I guess reading excepts from the CIA torture memos put me in a somber mood.

Apology accepted.

Shine my shoes now.
Or finish my hand washing.

I'm behind on both.

Also behind on reading. I'll be back on the CIA torture memos. I had a busy day.
