Anyone for a nightcap?

Good old standby - Rex Goliath pinot noir.

(and raspberry chocolate...mmmmmm, heaven!)

$3 Oak Leaf pinot grigio. Last night, it was Jack & Coke, but I ran out of Coke earlier today, so cheap wine it is.

Two observations:

1.) At least it's not in a box.

2.) Why did I give up drinking as a hobby again?

With regards to myself, I am wondering about #2 right now.

Two responses:

1) Actually, the Black Box brand of boxed wine is quite drinkable. I think their chardonnay is probably the best bet but I've filled many, many glasses from the cabernet sauvignon box as well.

2) We all make mistakes in our youth. You'll grow out of this.

Tonight it's cran-grape juice and vodka, mostly because both were on hand, and I needed to try something to stave off the stir up trouble argumentative mood.

We'll see if it works or not.

just tried the white cran/peach and stoli original combo. don't recommend. white cran is not cran cran. now my tummy hurts. :(

Hmm, I would think the peach would make it easier on your stomach than straight up cranberry. Maybe it was too sugary, especially if you mixed it with flavored stoli. Oh, that reminds me, I think stoli is harsher than others. Have you had it before?

i don't do the flavored vodkas, too girlie and i like my liquor to taste like liquor. stoli is actually my very favorite vodka, i adore it because it's pleasant to drink but with just enough of a kick to let you feel its presence. but i think you're right on with the too sugary...i have a low tolerance for sweet drinks.

it's not even 9 am and i'm already ready for a shot or two of tequila. neat.

this does not bode well for the rest of the day.

thanks. at least i learned my lesson.

but scotch??! not sure about that one...it's hard for me to drink any of the brown stuff, makes me feel heavy.

Scotch is merely my preference and not everyone gets into it. That said, drinking your booze straight up is much better for you than adding in lots of sweet stuff. If you're at all concerned about caloric intake, those sweet additions to your drink really add the calories in a hurry. But if you're into sweet on occasion, why not grab a glass of a tasty pinot grigio or some viognier?

how people drink wine i'll never know...it's one of those things i always wanted to like but don't. the smell, the aftertaste, you have to drink far too much to get a buzz (much less drunk), and afterward i'm always left with a killer headache, no matter the quality of the wine.

as i said the sweet stuff is not really my thing anyway, so i should have known better than to use the cran/peach juice as a mixer. but Daddy very rarely allows me to drink anything straight up and that was all we had on hand. my typical drinks are classic vodka martinis and gimlets with fresh lime juice (no syrups). i do like regular cranberry and vodka drinks though, as long as the ratio is about 50/50. ;)

I wonder if you have an issue with sulfates. I have friends who get headaches with most wines too. And you know, I don't really do liquor any more, so I forgot that sweet stuff and alcohol mixed often doesn't sit well. Well, for some people (me included). There are those people who like the slushy/gigantic bowl of smoothie with booze mixtures.

I had ---- steamers. After almost 20 years. Fire Island you are still my favorite plot of land on earth. Bury me in a protected dune and let sandpipers shit on my head, I love you.

Mosty sapphire/tonic.

Tonight - relatives. I'm thinking wild turkey, rocks.
