Where's the best skiing you've been? Powder hound or what? Skied in Europe or North America or anywhere else.

I'd love to hear your experience of skiing wherever as I'm trying to get together ideas for my group for next year.

Thanks

Even though I, now, live on the North American continent, I have yet to go skiing here.

However I ahve had some excellent experiences while I lived in Europe.
Been skiing in Norway, Austria, France and Italy.

If you can stand the french, somewhat arogance. Goto the French Alps...excellent skiing area and resorts of all kinds and prices there.
Have plenty of money...its rather expensive to go out there.

If you're there for partial party partial skiing....I HIGHLY recommend Austria. Get up early in the morning and beat the crap out of those slopes. Go snowboarding (Outstanding halfpipes all over the place)
And then go After-Skiing....until 3 in the morning.
Prices are cheap, accomodations are cheap...some are crappy too, but thats not really why we're there is it?

if there is any cross-country skiers. Norway is the place to go. Track from 3 to 50 miles. And beautiful nature. Bring lots of NON-alcoholic fluids!!!
Price range=Normal US prices.

Thanks Xander

That's the sort of thing I'm looking for.

Doing Val D'Isere in 3 weeks with my buds but usually go to Austria with them - a real party place

Canada is great - especially Whistler but really uptight about boozy parties!

Utah skiing

I love to ski in Utah. Alta, Snowbird, Snowbasin, Solitude, etc etc... all great places. 500 inches of fluffy powder each year.

I agree with TH, take me along and I will give you a winter experience you will never forget too ;)

just got back from val d'isere needs another 12 inches of snow to be perfect but it is great at the moment , very warm and sunny
the glacier and solaise areas are lovely. if you want a fright take the lesisures chair lift and check out where the boarders jump off the top
ski the run from the telecabin down to le fornet for a real buzz
challenge yourself to ski the womens olympic downhill run from the 92 olympics it is called "le face"
best bar for live music is moris
try and find a bar called "l'adventure" it is a real freaky place run by a gay guy and a transvestite , really kicks in there [think it is a gay bar , but who can tell in a ski resort]
ps for someone used to the american way of grading runs you are in for a shock even the greens and blues in val are not for the faint hearted
enjoy

Thanks for the Val D'Isere tips. I'm used to skiing in Europe though so the grading of runs wont surprise me:)

Just praying for snow.

JackM Utah 500" sounds fantastic - must fit it in.

TH & Miss Ski Bunny - you're welcome to cum along;)

Thredbo...???
Oh please.
Porter Heights in South Island, New Zealand. The slopes called Big Momma
The steepest public ski slope in the southern hemisphere 42degrees..a guaranteed white knickle ride.
Unfortunately Van, its summer here now (not so you'd notice by todays weather).

There's a 50 degree slope in Whistler which is genuinely white knuckle!!

Get over to Blackcombe side ask an instructor to point you at Hawaii 5-0 and you're there

I don't ski at all, however...

My Brother works at Schweitzer Ski area near Sand Point, ID (about 60 miles from the Canadian Border.) From the pictures he sends every now and then, it's usually some impressive powder there. I've been ther in the summer, and it's some very impressive geography even without snow.

Utah skiing

If you want to see some of Utah's skiing areas, watch the Olympics. The skiing events will be at Snowbasin and Park City ski resorts. I've skied Snowbasin and had much fun.

Alta is my favorite Utah ski resort. But, if you're a snowboarder, don't go there because it's a ski only resort.

Try www.skiutah.com for more info.

Tips up!
Jack

Thanks JackM - skiing for me - I'll leave snowboarding to those fearless types who like to land on their heads;)
