I Play tournament chess, united states chess federation

Online at icc (Internet chess club)

And correspondence chess at chessworld.net

Such a beautiful game. Simple yet insanely difficult.

I don't really play, but my wife does. I try, but I'm not very good at all. My wife is much smarter than I am. She plays at a couple of local clubs and does the occasional tournament.

I know what you mean...

I have some friends that are International Masters (IMs) which is one tier below GM (grandmaster) and they consider themselves terrible players when matched up against GMs. For me, it's the greatest waste of time possible. I just love everything about it. A rich history full of quirky personalities...

I love chess and use to be very good, won several of local tournaments but never reached the heights as harry.

I play just not nearly as often or as well as I would like to.

Lord - even world class players don't play as well as they want...especially when you analyze their games with a chess engine... Whoever makes the last mistake loses typically...still we all aim for that "perfect" game.

I love it, but rarely was people with whom to play. I'm only so-so, 1000-1300 points average. I can usually kick some ass on a timed gamed though.

There are..

3 main time controls for timed games -
1)bullet chess: each player has 1 minute or 2 minutes for all of your moves...

2)blitz chess: each player has between 3 minutes and 15 minutes for all moves...

3) standard: each player has more than 15 minutes for an entire game. Typical time controls for tournament chess are 2 hours each for the first 40 moves, then 1 hour for all remaining moves...

Of course there are time controls with increments i.e. after each move time is added to your clock...typical blitz 2 minutes per game with a 12 second increment..

Harry, I've been a fan since I learned the game at age 6.

And I have to say, it is the most tremendous game ever.

We used to play chess at work during lunch, and there was a guy there, "Oudo," I think his name was who was reputed to be IM level.

He ripped me up, swear to God.

And... it was so incredible and so fast, that I wanted to play him again.

I lasted longer, but same result.

Third game, longer, lost.

But I never did lose three games in a row that were more educational than those.

It was as though every move I made was a mistake.

And he took advantage of it every time.

Two moves is the shortest game.

Yep, but the moves white has to execute for it to happen are so weird that even the poorest player would not make them......

There is a 6 move check mate you can get away with against a average player every now and then.

My buddy used to play speed chess for money against those hustlers in Washington Square, always losing of course. He called it "chess lessons".

For a bad vs a good player, every move other than the strongest possible is a mistake.

I'll never beat a master, but I beat most hacks without a lot of difficulty.

*a two move game takes willful desire to lose by one player.
